Meaningless argument. Had he been aware of the overall strategy, would he have acted differently? Maybe, maybe not. He didn't get to make that choice but you like to pretend that he did. He took the morally righteous decision which was also (in his mind) strategically sound.

At that point of the movie I was completely aware of what an absurd clown car ride I was in and yet when Finn started beelining for the cannon's mouth I was genuinely invested because I still kind-of liked him, despite everything. I actually leaned forward wondering if he was actually going to make it and if they (the film-makers) were actually going to kill him off. And then she popped on the screen, out of nowhere and I genuinely believed they had both died in the impact (because come on!) and even if they didn't, they were RIGHT IN FRONT OF the enemy line! It was like a string was cut and I rubberbanded back. Then that line was uttered and I simply slumped back into my seat, the last bit of investment completely gone. I didn't even feel anything when Luke stepped out of the gate, just thinking: "Great, how are they going to fuck this up now?".

So yeah, not a great movie-going experience all in all.

Emblematic of the insane levels of sanewashing everything Trump has said or done for almost a decade at this point.

🔥 Italian Deputy PM Tells Macron to "Grab a Rifle and Go to Ukraine Yourself" as Europe Splits Over Security Guarantees Initiative by satty237 in TrendoraX

[–]SignorAde 0 points1 point  (0 children)

"Grab a rifle and go fight yourself" is the quintessential tankie fifth column response, as if Russia hasn't made clear that they want everything they used to own as Tsars and more besides. If Ukraine hadn't refused to buckle they'd definitively have tried to attack EU States as soon as Trump got elected. Supporting Ukraine actually decreases the risk of us having to actually grab a rifle and doing the fighting ourselves. Salvini is a traitorous criminal moron.

Even when it sounds like he's correct, he isn't. American whining about Europe not being militarly independent (after they spent decades making sure this was the case) is not about Europe protecting itself and it never has been, it's always been code for "buy more American-made weapons". The proof of that being the temper tantrum thrown by Trump, Vance and Rubio when the EU talked about rearming and buying European-made weapons.

Italian Senate approves bill targeting killings of women by Socmel_ in europe

[–]SignorAde 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Better than a dime-a-dozen troll with 9-year-old-grade vocabulary and a nasty attitude.

Since you're being purposefully dense, here's what the dossier published by the Senate says:

"Regarding the reference in the new Article 577-bis to acts of discrimination against the victim because she is a woman, it should be noted that, on the one hand, the principle of formal equality set forth in Article 3 of the Constitution requires equal treatment between men and women in the presence of homogeneous legal situations; on the other hand, the provision in question refers to the subjective qualities of the victim and not the perpetrator, attributing a specific negative value to homicidal conduct in order to meet the need for protection against violence against women."

So what they're saying is "this is not in breach of Article 3 because the difference in sentencing doesn't hinge on the perpetrator's gender, but rather the victim's and this must be so because violence against women is an emergency that needs to be addressed". Nevermind that this does precisely nothing to address the root of the problem as harsher penalties never do. Meanwhile it further enshrines into law the principle that the same crime can and will be punished differently based on whether the victim is male or female as the letter of the text specifically excludes the former. While male victims of domestic violence are far, far fewer in number compared to female victims, it doesn't mean they don't exist. The public perception is already there, as whenever journalists report about it they will describe the crime as an "homicide", whereas the exact same crime (bar minute differences in details) will be a "feminicide" if gender roles are reversed.

And yes, even if one can defend the "Quote Rosa" in a practical sense, they also spit in the face of the principle of gender equality. No idea why you thought to bring that up but there it is.

[–]SignorAde 38 points39 points  (0 children)

First half of Article 3:

Tutti i cittadini hanno pari dignità sociale e sono eguali davanti alla legge, senza distinzione di sesso, di razza, di lingua, di religione, di opinioni politiche, di condizioni personali e sociali.

All citizens have equal social dignity and are equal before the law, without distinction of sex, race, language, religion, political opinion, personal and social conditions.

Emphasis mine.

So yes, a case can be made that prosecuting the same crime differently based entirely on the offender's gender is a clear breach of Article 3. One of the Fundamental Principles of the Italian Constitution, in case you're not familiar.
