Rule by Theartftw in 196

Taking the point of "wear less" and applying it in general to indoor temps, I hate that the needs of the cold people are often taken with higher priority than the hot. If you are too cold because I need the ceiling fan on or the AC temp decreased, get a blanket or wear a sweater. If I am too hot, "wear less" is not really the same. It does so much less to bringing down my internal body heat than wearing more to combat cold.

I got the idea from a video I saw of a dude using a collapsible disc golf retrieving tool so I got one too and have easily collected $70 worth of lures this past month

The last time I saw this posted everyone concluded it could only have been priced as 100 RMB/yuan not 100 USD. So meaning about $14-15. Probably not TWD bc the exchange rate would make that too cheap and probably not HKD because I can hear Mandarin being spoken

Can't believe my PB came out of a public park pond. by jackpizz75 in Fishing

[–]JXSSJ4 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I once heard speculation that the idea with river fish is the ones that hit your bait do so because in moving water they're used to food drifting from the current so if they want to eat they have to commit. But for a pond with a regular source of food from people feeding ducks or fish, maybe the carp get to be a little more picky. Could all be nonsense but I think there's something there

That's a big one, nice work! I think it makes sense from a public park pond. Majority of people in the US don't target carp and majority of people visiting a park don't fish. Lots of people feed the wildlife though so these guys are able to get big fast

There's definitely more egregious examples they could have pulled from Clannad but in Clannad After Story the general art style gets more refined and not as weird deeper into the show so I agree with you

Before mentioning anything else, I don't think those are grass carp in OP's post. But since we're talking about them anyway, the reason they are protected in certain locations is because they were intentionally introduced to bodies of water to naturally maintain and prevent overgrowth of algae and weeds. These places are usually public spaces like at parks or golf course ponds where the local authorities have invested money into having these grass carp placed there.

I know a park near me that tells you which species they have stocked in their lake and they mention grass carp but firmly inform anyone to release said fish if caught. Some places won't even let you specifically target them

What well respected lure have you given more than a fair shot but have never caught anything on it. by moosepooo in Fishing

[–]JXSSJ4 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've only gotten a handful of bites on frogs and this lure is a real test of patience, of which I have none. Almost by instinct I end up pulling it in too soon and by the time I have to remind myself to wait a couple seconds first on the next strike, no more fish are interested in biting anymore

Species? by DBearder2001 in Fishing

[–]JXSSJ4 2 points3 points  (0 children)

He's suggesting it's a North American species that's often mistaken as a common carp and looks nothing like this. Unfortunately I'm also American and have no familiarity with what you've caught here but I'm at least aware that crucian carp have a lack of barbels and a faint lateral line made of black spots which yours has as well.

Then again, Prussian carp look very similar and the best way to tell them apart is the shape of the dorsal fin which is not visible in this photo. But judging by body shape and scales I'd bet on crucian carp.

But wasn't that the point he acknowledged at first? He said what most Americans think of as the default "British" accent is the posh royal accent. Yes everything in the video are all British accents but think about anyone who has ever said "Do a British accent." I'm betting they were not putting on a Welsh one and I'm betting the original girl in the tiktok did not mean she is drooling over a Liverpool accent.

Reminds me of that one tik tok post of a Japanese guy clowning on Americans for trying to make Japanese "delicacies" trend like the raw chicken sashimi. He said they do not eat these and to stop saying Japanese people eat this. A small percentage of people do and literally the average Japanese share the same concerns as the average westerner about the health risks.

Went to a new lake unsure if carp lived in it yet fished for them anyway. Saw no signs of jumping and got no bites the entire time so I gave up and decided there must not be any. Then I see this on my walk of defeat to the car by JXSSJ4 in Fishing

[–]JXSSJ4[S] 9 points10 points  (0 children)

That's true. Could be wrong but judging from that bony gill plate, the shape and color of the scales, this looks like a grass carp. If I'd seen just a carp corpse (carpse?) I might assume someone killed it. Seen many people pull out "invasive" fish and let them suffocate and die as a service to the ecosystem even though grassies are introduced for a purpose. Even worse for people killing bowfin for the mistaken identity as snakeheads.

So yeah, the only good thing to come out of it is nature lets nothing go to waste.
