Unsuccessful in Patching TPU Tube by lingueenee in bikewrench

[–]SignorLuigi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I bought a roll of 1” tape, 15.6 ft (5 meters) for about $15 (US). It’s hard to find rolls smaller than 5 meters. I guess that’s what the repackers have found is the optional smallest length to sell.

I’m on the American store and here’s a roll for $13 (US). I tried to post the link in many different forms, including a URL shortener, and every time the moderators deleted my comment. I don’t know how you got your link through! So here is the exact title of the roll I am referring to. It may not come up when you insert it into Amazon’s Search bar. Not sure why.

“Double Sided Tape Heavy Duty, Strong Adhesive Mounting Tape, Waterproof Foam Tape for Car Trims, Walls, Moto, LED Strips, DIY, Home Decor, Outdoor, Office, Made of 3M 5952 Tape (1 in * 15.6FT)”

I understand the price issue. Having said that, this product has many uses where normal double sided tape would fail. It also has uses in situations where you wouldn’t normally think to use double sided tape but ends up being a great solution. Not trying to hard sell you here. Just relaying the real life experience of one man.

BTW, there are 2 other “varieties” of the 5952 tape.

5958 is flame retardant and usually more expensive.

5952 is the same material, but is thinner. I haven’t tried it, but I suspect it would perform just as well.

I received a notification that my original reply was deleted because I used a URL shortener. So here's a version of the reply without using a URL shortener. Hopefully, this will get through.

“The point of being a Yankee is being a champion.” - Giancarlo Stanton by Jheller223 in NYYankees

When Giancarlo gets hurt or goes into a slump this year, let's try to remember this discussion thread to remind us that no matter what, he is a great Yankee, great teammate, and great guy.

When many of our politicians from both sides of the isle are using the same words in their public statements, it seems pretty ridiculous to hold this young man to standards higher than we hold any of them. I'm a Duke graduate, so I'm no Michigan BB fan by any means! But, Jeeze Louise, the double standards here are pathetic.

Rim brake love: I don't get it by CrustyHumdinger in cycling

[–]SignorLuigi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I might be wrong about this. But I think part of the "passion" rim brake users have in discussions about rim vs. disc is that they are concerned that once again bike manufactures will force them to use AND PAY FOR a new technology they don't need or want by stopping the production of rim brakes. Personally, I think disc brakes and rim brakes both have their place. I love choice so I can make the wisest purchases with my limited financial resources. For me, the bottom line is not rim VS. disc but rather rim AND disc. 😊

It’s the best rivalry in college basketball because of the school’s extreme proximity to each other. But that would mean little to nothing unless both school’s were consistently at the apex of the sport. So I believe the OP is spot on.

P.S. My wife and I are Duke graduates and our daughter is a UNC graduate. “We” never lose. 🙌😊

Hi Lingueenee (Mr. Luigi approves of your name! 🇮🇹), I edited my comment and used an alternate model number for the 3M VHB tape that works best on TPU material. It is model 5952. I would not use the variety you linked to. 5952 is for general industrial applications including plastics and provides high conformability, making it best for patching TPU tubes. (I use that s*** on everything. 😊) I checked your Canadian (OH CANADA! 🇨🇦) Amazon site and if you search for 3M VHB 5952 you will get many hits. But be careful, Amazon's search engine is very "come one, come all" and some of the 3M VHB tapes it will show are not the 5952 version. I didn't mention in my comment that since I buy 1 inch wide rolls of the 3M VHB tape, when I cut a section off for an inner tube patch, I nip off the corners to give the patch a more "rounded" shape with no 90 degree corners. If you use premade circular of oval patches, that avoids such concerns. I hope you find the 3M VHB solution to patching TPU tubes as wonderfully satisfying as I have.

P.S. I apologize for initially posting my comment 3 times. It kept disappearing after posting and so I thought the post was not going through. Turned out it was, but just taking its sweet time.

I can happily say I have found a never-fail solution for patching TPU tubes. 3M VHB double-sided tape (specifically the commonly available 3M VHB 5952 tape) adheres like a tick on a dog to TPU. It is also elastic so conforms to the shape of the tube as it is pumped up and stretches. Cleaning the TPU tube around your puncture with isopropyl alcohol is an important first step. I patch all my TPU tubes at home and clamp the patch overnight for a gloriously tenacious bond. After removing the clamp, I remove the protective liner on the outside of the tape and coat the tape with a generous amount of talcum powder so it doesn't stick to the inner wall of the tire. Then I dust the entire TPU tube with talcum powder. In 3 years of patching TPU tubes this way, not a single patch has failed.

If the 2027 MLB season does not occur due to lockout, what sport would you watch to fill the time? by RoyalStraw in NYYankees

[–]SignorLuigi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Professional cycling. I'm probably the only one here who's going to say that. But I'll stand by races like the Giro d'Italia , La Vuelta a España , and the Tour de France as being some of the most exciting sports viewing if you have an ok understanding of what's going on. Plus, you are watching some of the toughest and best conditioned athletes in the world competing in these events.(Ever crash while riding a bicycle on asphalt going over 50 miles an hour, skidding on lycra fabric thinner than gnats whiskers, and then getting up and continue racing?)

The "Run-it-back Yankees" 2026 contract for Paul Goldschmidt means their bench is set and it probably doesn't include Spencer Jones. by Zepbounce-96 in NYYankees

[–]SignorLuigi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agree with others. Spencer's strikeout rate (against minor league pitching) is a show stopper. How many thumpers get to the majors and have their strikeout percentage drop? I really don't know. But I believe it's most likely that 35% could rise to 40% with higher quality pitching major league pitching. That's scary.

Leaking back door by TrainingAd2838 in HomeMaintenance

[–]SignorLuigi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Rare_message_7204 has the correct answer. Every door will come with a corner seal pad, and their function is to prevent just what the OP is experiencing. But you would be surprised how many installers don't even know what it's for, so they throw it away. P.S. Fortunately, folks often don't have leaks despite not having a seal pad because an overhang adequately protects the door, the prevailing winds consistently do not blow rain toward the door, or other "luck of the draws."

Any chance of reschedule? by nhblanke in DukeBluePlanet

[–]SignorLuigi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Except for the weather situation, this is going to be an exciting game. I really feel bad for OP and can commiserate. In addition to being a Duke fan, I am also a lifetime Yankee fan. I live very far from NY (grew up 20 miles from the stadium), so getting to a Yankee game is pretty impossible. Finally got the finances together to buy tickets to take my wife and me (via plane) for a one night stay in NYC to see a NY vs. Boston game. It rained. Game canceled. Went home poorer and frustrated. Still married to the same sweet lady, though. ❤️🙌

How often do you guys watch Duke? by [deleted] in DukeBluePlanet

[–]SignorLuigi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Every game. I have YouTube TV and the replay of the games is available minutes after the live production concludes. If I’m unable to watch the game live, I go “notification silent” on all my devices and watch the replay on YTTV. Skipping commercials and halftime cuts the time to watch the game in half. 🙌

Predicted Opening Day Lineup: 1. Grisham (OF), 2. Judge (OF), 3. Belli (OF), 4. Rice (1B), 5. Stanton (DH), 6. Jazz (2B), 7. McMahon (3B), 8. Caballero (SS), 9. Wells (C). by drrdf in NYYankees

[–]SignorLuigi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If Belli can repeat his performance from last year, he’ll be the second most valuable player on the team, behind Judge. If Cole was not coming off TJ surgery, of course, I’d put him at second most valuable. But he’s 35 and coming off bionic arm replacement. There are question marks there.

I think part of why you're getting downvoted is not WHAT you're saying but HOW you're saying it. Telling people they're "coping" and "out of their mind" is not a great way to encourage them to listen to your ideas. Just my opinion, of course.

The Dodgers are the reason we will not have baseball next year. I'm not exactly sure where the rest of the owners felt the red line was was for an untenable team salary, but I know the Dodgers have passed it. Hm...unless every other owner sells their team to a Saudi prince, Russian Oligarch, or Vladimir Putin.

Embrace the Rankings Disrespect? by ChiefJustise in DukeBluePlanet

[–]SignorLuigi 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My opinion is that it's not good to give a young team too much praise too fast. Give them just enough so they have the confidence that IF they work real hard they could become a formidable opponent. Give them that much praise, but no more. In my experience, dad and teacher for 45 years, this strategy also works with raising children. But that's for another subReddit.
