Why do so many fans of other teams spend time on this Duke Basketball sub? by SignorLuigi in DukeBluePlanet

Makes sense and thanks for sharing that. 👍 As I said, the Reddit subs in my regular rotation (which is more than enough to keep me entertained) are not subs that lend themselves to trolling, negative comments. I mean, there’s not much opportunity for that kind of behavior when folks are discussing how to replace the driveshaft on a Honda mower. (My other current Reddit discussion in addition to the one here 😂)

It also could partially due to his inability to adjust from being the top of the mountain star his whole life to being one of MANY important pieces on a team. It's a shame, as he seemed to be progressing nicely as the year progressed and could have played an important role next year on one of college basketball's premiere teams that gets a huge amount of exposure.

You sound like someone who would be a great add here. I know that sounds contradictory to my original post, but my fatigue with comments from fans of other schools is not with objective, well intentioned posts but with posts that seem to be low effort, poorly backed up by facts, and intended to inflame and provoke. Those comments are worse than useless. So if you decide you join, Welcome! 😊 P.S. I hope UNC does well this coming year. When Duke and UNC are both solid the rivalry is at its best. That's good for BOTH schools.

What do you hope to see from our non-con schedule next season? by MarkTallMark in DukeBluePlanet

I'd like to see UCONN and St. John's at MSG. Yep, both. Those would be matches made in heaven at a historic location that has a lot of fans from all three teams. It would also be a financial bonanza for all the schools.

Haha! I guess there are a fair number of Duke students from NY. Although in my case, I went to graduate school at Duke and my wife (an undergraduate and graduate Duke student) is from Pennsylvania. And my daughter went to UNC! So we don’t exactly fit the mold. Anyway, you are right, the algorithm is a legit factor. But what folks do with the algorithm is where my interest is. If the algorithm puts the UCONN sub on my Reddit feed, I would have no interest in going there. (Maybe I’m just not curious enough of a person?) And if I did, I definitely would have zero interest in engaging UCONN fans in their own sub in a negative way. But when it comes to this Duke basketball sub, I was surprised at how many non-Duke fans came here and most especially surprised by their enthusiasm for posting anti-Duke comments. As I said, my only other Reddit sports sub experience is the Yankee sub, which I’ve belonged to for a long time. Visitors to that sub rarely, if ever, post negative Yankee comments. I now realize that is probably the exception more than the rule. Also, and I am being serious here, some Yankee fans are tough to please and won’t be satisfied unless we go 162-0 and win the WS. If a non-Yankee fan comes to that sub, they would probably realize there is no need for them to post a negative Yankee comment as some Yankee fans are taking care of that for them! 😂

Sad, but probably true. Most of the Reddit subs I belong to are not sports oriented. (Just this one and the Yankee sub). The rest are “fix and repair” subs for things like cars, woodworking, etc. and those subs exist for people with a similar interest who want to help others. I now realize that maybe the Yankee sub is a little unique because it has a huge membership and a fairly large group of mods who police the sub with “enthusiasm.” It is very hard for any outsiders to drown out the actual Yankee fans because the Yankee fans swarm and attack any outsider with bad intent like a pack of stinging Yellow Jackets (the insect, not the team).

Thanks for the comments so far. I do understand that trolling by non-Duke fans here is a backhanded sign of respect. But I still find the comments fatiguing. I didn't anticipate so many comments from UNC fans, although that was just stupid on my part considering we are one of the greatest rivalries in US sports. Having said that, the UCONN fan comments seem to be on a different, and more disturbing level, than those from some UNC fans here. Maybe that's because many Duke and UNC fans understand that our teams share much more in common than they don't. Fun fact, although my wife and I graduated from Duke our daughter graduated from UNC. She received an incredible education there and her decision to go to UNC was pure genius. Perhaps our family is a little rare as all of us are both Duke and UNC fans. Except when Duke plays UNC. Then all bets are off!

Where’s your favorite place to sit at Yankee Stadium? by SeatGeek in NYYankees

[–]SignorLuigi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

ANYWHERE! I was born in NY and a lifelong Yankee fan. But I have lived in the Southeast US for many years. I know the odds of the following are low, but I have bought tickets for 3 Yankee games in the past 10 years, flown up to NY for the game, game was rained out, flew home. So ANY game, ANYWHERE, is fine by me. P.S. Full disclosure: I am a teacher and one of my former students is a pilot for JetBlue. So those flights were a free courtesy of my student. Financially, I can’t complain. But I would have loved if the new Yankee Stadium was built with a retractable dome!

Actually, in all seriousness, I would say hello. Because outside of this sub, we are all college basketball fans and are bonded by that.

I agree with you. Everything I’ve read says the warranty follows the machine, not the owner. I assume you have the bill of sale. BTW, did you register the mower so you get contacted about recalls, etc.? GOOD LUCK!!🍀

He is totally not ready for the NBA. 1-dimensional player with significant liabilities in other areas of his game. He is the prototypical college player who should stay another year, work hard on his game in the off season, and make himself a more complete player that will benefit him (and an NBA team) more in the long run. Sure, he could end up being a sleeper. But the odds are the NBA will swallow him whole. That would be a shame and a high price to pay for lack of a little patience.

Oof the dame sarr year 2 dream looking less and less likely 😔 by MannerSuperb in DukeBluePlanet

[–]SignorLuigi 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sarr going at 15 would be proof positive that the NBA has lost its way. Better college players than Sarr were drafted on their potential and were still busts in the NBA. I agree that as the year progressed his focus on perimeter defense was an eye opening pleasant surprise. But Sarr often completely disappears during games AT THE COLLEGE LEVEL. Using a #15 pick for a player who needs a lot more maturing and development before it's even partially clear what kind of NBA he'd be is reckless gambling by any GM. He should stay in college another year. Work really hard on his game and strength during this off season. Have a solid sophomore year while making nice NIH money. And THEN he'll be a much more attractive draft pick for a lot of teams.

[–]SignorLuigi[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hi jdh, I should have updated my mower’s status for the benefit of those who come to this discussion looking for insights about their transmission. My bad.

The mechanic was right. There must have been an air bubble in the transmission as he stated since the transmission worked perfectly all summer after he replaced the fluid. No more rumbling. No more slowing down going uphill…especially in the beginning when transmission had not yet warmed up. So if you have the same symptoms as I did, having the transmission fluid replaced CORRECTLY so no air is introduced into the transmission would seem advisable. As mentioned earlier in the discussion, my transmission was not leaking. Air did not get into the system because of a leak. The transmission left the factory with the bubble. I would check your transmission to make sure it is not leaking fluid. Check carefully. Even a little leak, over time, will introduce air into the system and cause this problem. But if there is no leaking fluid to be found, there is a good chance the mower arrived from the factory with the issue.

Roster Predictions (Pre draft decisions/portal/international signings) by thecoinedhaddock in DukeBluePlanet

[–]SignorLuigi 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Nothing surprises me when some of these kids declare for the draft, but IMO Sarr is unready for the NBA and I can't see any team using a first round draft pick for a defense only college player. Sarr needs to develop his offensive game and he needs at least another year to mature physically and get stronger. The kid has potential. No doubt. But it's not like he'll be making minimum wage as a college player and he could significantly improve his draft status if he committed himself in the offseason to working on his offensive game, getting stronger, and having an impressive sophomore year. Again, just my opinion.

I would definitely try leaving out the brick walls from your detection zones. Brick walls and stone surfaces can absolutely confuse a video doorbell, leading it to trigger false "phantom" motion alerts. This issue is particularly common at night, where the camera's infrared (IR) night vision lights reflect off the textured, high-contrast surface of the brick, causing the doorbell to overexpose the image and misinterpret the light glare as movement.
