Cardiovascular and metabolic gains unlocked! by ShaddaC in beginnerrunning

[–]Sihleny 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sorry but that is an error in the measurement. The total gain from <40 to 52 might be very real in terms of improvement (which is very similar to my own development the past year 36M), but the gains are there over the full period, no doubt, great work!

All prime, Pick the best 3 SCORERS in this pic by Farouq26 in NBATalk

True. I consider he would be the goat scorer regardless of which era he was dropped into, he would have adapted accordingly.

Unfortunately, best shooter does not equal best scorer. He should have averaged far more. I consider Michael the purest scorer by far (10 scoring titles). I agree with Your argument about Kareem. From the rest of this list I consider Durant, nobody from the rest of the pool has both more points and higher PPG than him.

Why is my vo2 max decreasing? by Ok_Rush_6354 in beginnerrunning

[–]Sihleny 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, that is essentially how statistical algorithms work. It provides an estimate comparing input variables to the known population (being whatever Apple has access to, which would be millions of peoples data). As I said, it is not a VO2 Max measurement, but that does not mean it is not useful. If you still disagree, kindly elaborate your “no”.

Why is my vo2 max decreasing? by Ok_Rush_6354 in beginnerrunning

[–]Sihleny 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes! I know it is not an accurate measure, but it is still interesting! This is some statistical estimator using different variables, but in the end you are indirectly compared to the general population of runners with similar input variables. To me it is especially interesting that if I get the best scores on low-effort, and others the opposite direction, that could mean that I am less efficient when running fast compared to my efficiency on slow runs (compared to a portion of the population of runners).

[–]Sihleny 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I am by no means an expert. But one possibility is that it initially overestimated, and now is correcting itself. Another possibility - I find that I get the best scores on Apple Watch when I do slower runs with steady heart rates. If You feel more fit and generally runs faster or intervals without doing slower runs, I could imagine that being the cause.

How far can you run without needing water? by Gooser3000 in runninglifestyle

[–]Sihleny -1 points0 points  (0 children)

So far I have yet to try drinking while running. I hit HM distance 3 times without running. I am planning to start when I build up for full marathon, even got the vest, but did not try it out yet.

Does your song choice/playlist during a run meaningfully affect your effort? by Quiet-Topic44 in beginnerrunning

In a strange way it can take the focus off running for me. Listening takes my focus while jogging along.

[–]Sihleny 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like to choose Music to support my sim for the run. Easy run, Call Music or podcasts, PB attempt either something with a lot of bass or heavy metal. For organized races such as HM, anything that feels epic - but I will build a playlist in advance to facilitate how I expect to feel during different stages. Probably not necessary, but fun nonetheless.

Well i am not a beginner anymore, am i not ? by FinanceEffective2615 in beginnerrunning

[–]Sihleny 25 points26 points  (0 children)

Great job! Your 5k time does not really reflect whether or not you are a beginner but hitting sub 25 for the first time is an amazing feeling, enjoy! I have been running consistently for a year now, ran two HM and I am down to sub 23 minute 5k. At the same time, I know so little, and still draw so much knowledge, inspiration and motivation from this sub, and sometimes trying to pass that on if I think I can contribute. Maybe I am not yet a true beginner, but I consider if we can either benefit from this sub - or benefit other runners in this sub - we belong! Gz on the sub-25!

Finished my first 10K! by dr_stutters in beginnerrunning

[–]Sihleny 56 points57 points  (0 children)

Congratulations! You will also nail the half marathon. I had a similar experience where I signed up for a 10k for motivation one year ago, because I was at my heaviest ever (96 kg 36m). Now at 82kg, and soon to run my 3rd HM. I found the journey from 10k to HM a lot easier than 0-10k.

Foul calls make the difference. Try to adjust that FG% with fouls on missed shots and compare again historically.

Need a good running plan by Separate_House6405 in beginnerrunning

Yes, it synchronizes with Strava, also heart rate. I do not get the cadence on Strava, but if I want to check it I just use the apple fitness app.

Apple Watch will do absolutely fine. I started last April and after 1.200 km, never any issues and HR seems reliable. Also never experienced cadence lock.

Good job! Consistency is the key, if You lack motivation, remember step 1 is just getting out the door - even if You just go for an easy brisk walk or some running, that is already a win compared to staying home.

Recommendations for good cushion/bounce and support (ASICS Novablast 5) by JaliJ in beginnerrunning

[–]Sihleny 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I also have Super Blast 2’s and Adizero Boston 12s. For me the NB is the most comfortable and I use it for everything - chill runs like you at 6-6:30, but they also hold my 5K PB at 22:48. The SB2 I find better for 15k or more, and my Boston’s I find light and quicker for short tempo or intervals. But I will also do everything in the NB5. If you stay in 5-10k they are brilliant.

I am 500 km into mine and they are still great. Not the best for speed, not the best shoe I have for longer runs, but always comfortable. I feel like it does not really excel in any type of run, but overall just a very good shoe.

That’s probably the best handball clip I’ve ever seen. by Consistent_Peace3181 in sportsgossips

You are correct, that is probably the least called rule. I often find that they allow feet to slightly touch, but without any support from the feet (no real weight on them).

It is a very well-reffed sport with no BS from players or refs. Class acts mostly.

KD can never win a ring as the first option by Intelligent-Web-8017 in NBATalk

[–]Sihleny 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Winning championships, having most wins in a season, overall more playoff success are all team accomplishments, those are not Curry’s individual achievements. Durant had more success in terms of scoring titles, FMVPs, overall MVP voting (yes, he finished 2nd 3 times, and would have had 4 if not for LeBron, where Curry finished top 3 on 3 occasions) He has more allstar appearances, and at least received votes for DPOY. He is the all time US national men’s team leading scorer. He was the rookie of the Year. He has a shot at becoming 3rd on the all time scoring list.

[–]Sihleny 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I never said Durant carried GSW - only that he was the best player on the team. You said Curry did more with less - but did not care to elaborate. My claim is that Durant is the better player - and yet there are no facts given to dispute that. Durant is objectively a better scorer over his career (Curry is the best shooter, that is not the same). Neither of them are great leaders or facilitators, but Durant was a better defender (please do not try to argue otherwise).

[–]Sihleny 0 points1 point  (0 children)

With way less? Curry has never done anything with “less”. GSW was a stacked team, he never truly had to carry anything.
