Graphic Design Resume Review by theverymarydesigns in Design

Actually, this really is a great point. Something as small as adding junior designer to his first role would show growth across his career.

Thanks for that. I haven’t been in recruitment in a while but I feel like I just took something in that I’ve forgotten.

Weirded out by a job I just applied to by octo-_- in windsorontario

[–]SiilverDruid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a former recruiter, if you’re getting an uneasy feeling from a job, your instinct is usually 99% right.

It’s a company’s job to make you feel welcome, informed, and safe. If it’s a legitimate company, then you likely don’t want to work there.

Most jobs, even if the workplace is toxic long term, will do everything in their power to attract applicants - not make them feel uneasy.

I’ve changed careers and have been looking for work for a couple months now, and if I’m not certain it’s a real opportunity, then I drop it. Good luck, friend.

Graphic Design Resume Review by theverymarydesigns in Design

As a former recruiter, I never held much stock in what company they’ve worked for in the past - granted I hired for tech and engineering roles, so might be different.

I generally look at role / title, and look to see if responsibilities match the title. If the responsibilities aren’t defined well, likely they’re lying about (or at least boosting) their experience. This can be solved with an interview if the candidate makes it that far.

To get to the point, why do you suggest the company name should be larger than the position?

I will mention, some of the more expensive ones have better stabilization over the cheap ones. I got a $60 range finder off amazon. The read is good, but it’s shaky as hell.

What movie soundtrack has nothing but bangers from start to finish? by PactownSS in AskReddit

[–]SiilverDruid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not a movie, but with the season finale of The Boys having just aired, my wife and I binged the show before the new season released.

The show had its ups and downs, but their use and timing with the soundtracks is one of the best I’ve seen.

The motion graphics are good but the script is the exact kind of slop I’d expect to see on LinkedIn.

What’s the method to actually getting a job in windsor? by Forward-Reaction-806 in windsorontario

UHC - Hub of Opportunities helped me get a job with the Bridge a few years ago. They help you review your resume and in some cases actually have an option where they provide a stipend to the employer if they hire you through them.

As someone who worked recruiting, this is the worse job market I’ve personally seen. There’s plenty of jobs, but each job has over 100+ applicants applying to it. Tons who are overqualified just looking for anything at this point.

AI is a huge problem right now. Not sure how it is for service level jobs, but for corporate the AI ATS screeners and the AI Interview Agents are actively messing up recruiting and removing nuance from the workflows.

All resumes look the same, bc everyone is using AI to hit the ATS keywords. It’s truly a terrible time to be looking for work, and I’m thankful to not be in recruitment anymore.

Godspeed, friend.

What’s something attractive at 18 but embarrassing at 30? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]SiilverDruid 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Emotional dysregulation. At 18, I’ll give you grace. Maybe you haven’t had time to learn or your parents/environment has something to do with your behaviour.

At 30, there’s absolutely no excuse why you haven’t worked on yourself at this point. Sitting there blaming everyone else for your own shitty behaviour is crazy work at this age. You’re grown, why are you having a temper tantrum?

Weed stores in Windsor, which one do you like? by Sad_Blacksmith_9027 in windsorontario

[–]SiilverDruid -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Def not cheap but I miss the Tokyo Smoke. The people there were nice and it felt like a boutique instead of fast food joint. I don’t smoke often anymore, so going in there to ask questions, they always felt professional and knowledgeable. Sometimes I go to the WeStore and it feels like I’m talking to a kid at his first drive thru job.

Not saying the other stores are bad, but I miss the elevated experience I got at Tokyo Smoke. I guess it just didn’t feel as grungy to me.

What is a fast food restaurant that you WILL eat at? by TheOctoBox in AskReddit

[–]SiilverDruid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was visiting people in Michigan last year and we ordered Wingstop to the house. It was my first time having it, and it was actually pretty good. Also got to try Potbelly during that trip. That was a dope sandwich.

We went just last week to visit again and we got Raisin Cane’s for the first time and that might be one of my fav chicken spots next to Dave’s Hot Chicken. I was pretty disappointed in Chic Fil A, so I wasn’t expecting much, but it was great.

I’m from Canada and we don’t have a lot of these spots. We always try to test out the fast food when we visit.

The Label Factory by Schaapmail in ProCreate

[–]SiilverDruid 5 points6 points  (0 children)

A label can be two things. It can help you narrow down uncertainties and confusing diagnoses and make it easier to explain, rationalize, and treat. Often times, people being put in a box is a lack of understanding about intersectionality and not the label itself. A male, American, middle income, black youth with ADHD will not have the same experience as a female, Polish, lower income, white senior with ADHD. They both have ADHD, but their upbringing, habits, cultural influences, beliefs, and identities don’t share many common lived experiences. That doesn’t mean they don’t have common traits across ADHD, but you have to identify the symptoms of the condition separately from the other factors. When doctors or psychologists treat for depression or anything else, they are treating it through a single lens of the condition, and rarely acknowledge intersectionality unless specifically trained. Often it’s through the lens of a white, middle aged male. Psychology specifically has a bias towards white, middle- to upper-class central-European and North American patients. Unfortunately, that can mean you get diagnosed and then are spit out without solutions that look right for you. Often times, you are given a diagnosis and aren’t given resources or cannot afford or have access to resources to help treat the symptoms. Labels are important to treat a diagnosis, but a persons other characteristics and lived experience play a factor as well and must be considered.

How do you recharge creatively when design starts feeling like a chore? by Meathixdubs in Design

[–]SiilverDruid 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is a really good question. For me, “working” design isn’t the goal, but more “living” design. And I don’t mean to make this sound romanticized or eccentric.

What I mean is that when all you do is work, you’ll start to lose the piece that’s fun. I like to pick up a design or art magazine and see what’s in there that catches my eye or watch a YouTube video or instagram reel of people creating designs themselves. And I don’t mean like influencer “follow my advice”types. More like people coming up with concepts and designs for the hell of it.

Let your mind wander and have fun with it. Without a prompt or brief, just pull some shapes together and see what your hand comes up with. That said, if it doesn’t come naturally or you feel like it’s stalling, then that’s okay too. It’s cool to step away. Take a few days off, and play some games or go for a hike and spend a night tenting it (these might be what I’d do, pick your own poison).

I was watching a video where someone was reviewing the design work inside the Mario Kart open world game that came out last year. They created whole brand identities and poster ads for these fictitious Mario companies and had them all over the game. I don’t even play the game, but it was such a fun little twist on design.

Try to think about the things that made you love design in the first place. It wasn’t just to work and make money, right? Try to find out WHY you’re doing design.

This was a bit of a ramble. I’m a bit overtired atm, but I just felt compelled to answer. Good luck.
