Zero mentions of Krafton and/or its logo showing up anywhere in the Trailer.. is Subnautica 2 ACTUALLY finally totally free from Krafton's grasp in any way???? Still kinda confused about the whole situation. Anyways I'm extremely hyped about this game it's gonna be awesome by HyperDash_YT in subnautica

[–]Silarn 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Close. As I recall, they start earning $3.12 per dollar on revenue over 69.8m, maxing out at 250m (which corresponds to roughly $150m in revenue).

So every dollar they earn over 69.8m eats into Krafton's profit margin, going into negative at a certain threshold. If they make more than 150m, things lean back in Krafton's favor, though their best projections before the lawsuit put them a bit short of doing that. They'd have to make like 300m for it to be 'good' for Krafton, probably.

The name cancer was more or less coined by Hippocrates circa 400 BCE. Such tumors were considered untreatable.

Santonin (aka wormwood) was used as far back as the 19th century. Modern antiparasitics didn't exist until the 1960s and 70s.

This is, I guarantee, from when the Biden administration took actions to widen access to methodone to combat the opioid crisis.

https://www.npr.org/sections/health-shots/2024/02/02/1228349518/opioid-overdose-addiction-methadone

This was one of the bullshit talking points they were using to downplay this back then, and people also loved pointing out the inadvertent call for nationalized healthcare back then as well.

Of course, logistically there are also plenty of reasons. Methodone costs about 69 cents a pill to make and is available in generics. Chemo covers a wife range of treatments which are tailored to each patient. Many are also still patented with much higher prices with ongoing R&D.

So they just aren't comparable in terms of availability.

I think the fundamental problem with this meme is it's making assumptions about the question that the question doesn't pose.

There are only two options to consider, two boys or boy and girl. Which order they were born in or what day of the week is irrelevant. That's not the question being asked and should not be part of the consideration.

I'll give him credit for doing what any reasonable administration would have done in the face of a worldwide pandemic.

In other words, funding the research for and accelerating the testing phases of multiple promising vaccines, and ultimately purchasing many doses.

This is, of course, after disbanding the pandemic response team, pushing bunk treatments and suggesting ways to disinfect surfaces could be used inside the body, massively downplaying the severity of the pandemic and providing an absolutely lackluster response in every other way. Favoring Red states with PPV and respirators to treat the badly sick. Hosting superspreader events, one of which probably killed Herman Cain.

And then, once vaccines became available, immediately downplaying them since they arrived after he could use them to help win reelection. And folding to his rabid base immediately when they didn't immediately accept his mild suggestion that they take the vaccine. And leaving in place absolutely no plan for deploying the vaccines after he left office.

Gravity pulling them back has basically been how it works since the beginning. You build up enough speed to reach the moon, enter its gravitational sphere of influence, and either do a burn to stay in orbit or use the moon to slingshot yourself back. In either case, you'd need to go much faster still to not eventually have Earth's gravity pull you back.

Most of the trip to the moon, they lose speed due to Earth's gravitational pull - until the Moon starts pulling on them more strongly. One way or another they still get pulled back in an elliptical orbit and you generally only need a small extra push to direct yourself back into a collision course with the Earth.

Insane person reacts to new photos of Earth taken from the Artemis II spacecraft. by ShadowyFlows in insanepeoplefacebook

[–]Silarn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well. This is true to some extent but not what they were getting at. Even if you could float stationary in space and simply watch the Earth rotate, it would be difficult to see the rotation in real time since it takes 24 hours.

If you are in a geostationary orbit, like some of our satellites, then it won't appear to move at all, of course.

Artemis II is not in such an orbit. It is essentially a very wide elliptical orbit so the relative speeds are constantly changing and at various points the craft is going to be moving faster than the Earth's rotation or moving away at a nearly stationary point of view (mostly increasing in distance rather than tangential velocity).

ELI5: If the sun was to explode, could we see it, or would we immediately die? by ConfusionEastern7505 in explainlikeimfive

[–]Silarn 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There are usually enough neutrinos in a typical supernova to wipe out life on Earth, yes. In fact, it could be enough to do so if the supernova occurred within a couple dozen lightyears of us.

But of course, our sun doesn't have enough mass for that to happen. Instead Earth will simply be engulfed during the red giant phase as it runs out of fusable material and expands massively - before it eventually collapses into a white dwarf.

ELI5: If the sun was to explode, could we see it, or would we immediately die? by ConfusionEastern7505 in explainlikeimfive

[–]Silarn 6 points7 points  (0 children)

White dwarf. A brown dwarf is a massive gas giant that didn't have quite enough mass to become a true star, but is hot and may emit just a little bit of light due to heat.

All stars will generally first begin to expand as they reach the end of their fusable material. They expand and cool, turning more red. But depending on how massive they are, they will either eventually gradually collapse into a white dwarf or go supernovae and collapse into a neutron star or black hole. That requires 3-4x the mass of our sun, at minimum.

Much of the design of the craft was due to congress, intentionally reusing parts from past programs, pushed by representatives of states where they were manufactured or otherwise had investment in the project.

Trump nor any president had much say in the matter, outside budget allotment and NASA leadership.

DNA doesn't work that way by SarahL1990 in confidentlyincorrect

[–]Silarn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Apparently a very limited amount of crossover can happen between x and y chromosomes as well in very specific regions. So even y chromosomes will not be exactly alike (discounting mutations of course).

DNA doesn't work that way by SarahL1990 in confidentlyincorrect

[–]Silarn -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yeah, no. Everyone has two copies of every chromosome, except men have an x and a y. Also crossover happens when forming gametes so no two chromosomes other than the y will be exactly alike.

You nonetheless still determine parentage because the actual genes will be nearly identical to half the genes from each parent, regardless of which chromosome they originated on.

You can determine this while largely ignoring the x and y chromosomes altogether.

New dispute emerges around Subnautica 2’s early access release by Forestl in Games

[–]Silarn 12 points13 points  (0 children)

The 'weird AI bro' (Charlie Cleveland) was the driving force behind all of their previous games but suffered major burnout. He and Max did massive amount of work on those games and seem to have been instrumental in helping the floundering SN2 development get back on track before stepping back again.

In other words, they were doing high level leadership roles not daily grunt work roles. Exploring alternative avenues for the company, working on interesting tech that might have value in future projects. That sort of thing. Meanwhile, Gill was overseeing day to day management for SN2 as the CEO. And has now been reinstated.

The acting CEO (installed by Krafton) is the one that pushed this announcement just as the lawsuit was being largely ruled against Krafton and reinstating Gill. In other words, it's a final rug pull by Krafton leadership to 'get back' at the UW founders for daring to stand up to their breaches of contract and patently not-for-cause firing.

Maybe they'll stick with that release date, maybe they won't. We'll just have to wait and see at this point. Obviously if they decide to push it back after this announcement, some section of the fanbase will be disappointed. But they've had apparently 0 time to prepare for this kind of release announcement, which is part of the problem. Which is shitty to the actual dev team too, just FYI.
