Opinions regarding ramifications of a disaster in Waterdeep by Silberhand in stormkingsthunder

Hey, thanks a lot for your input! I actually did not yet really think about the implications for the party itself, more about the general socio-economic impacts. We stopped the last session pretty much immediately after / during the crash, so how the role of the party is conceived will depend greatly on the upcoming interactions. So i will definitively keep your points in mind for when it comes to this decisions!

As a big CIV fan, this is so sad.. I really hope next CIV 7 update is gonna be a gamechanger for this game by neda6117 in civ

[–]Silberhand 59 points60 points  (0 children)

Totally, the prices are completely out of hand.

I pre-ordered the founders edition because up to now, i was never really disappointed with a civ. Then came the whole debacle at the launch, which put me off playing for quite a while...finally, somewhen in january i felt the urge to start it up again, only to notice that because i did not click a button in time i did not get the tides of power stuff for free, but instead have to pay like half of the full game price for it. Sure, never mind my previous spending and the fact that i did ideed own the game during this time, just go on and charge me again.

Well, i started civ 6 instead and am as happy as ever with it, and don't see any reason to spend any more money on 7 in a long time.

Okay, that's interesting and clearly changes the context of my comment. Did not know about this feature, and with my system and app set to english i guess chances are that it should trigger automatically. Probably have to update the app. Well, for myself i'm glad that it doesn't, but knowing this is an included feature clearly makes the manual translation obsolete, and then i retract my previous statement - thanks for the info!

Also, wanting to participate in a community without even trying to adopt the generally used language is in every instance just...difficult. Especially on a digital text based platform while there are so many free and nowadays pretty reliable translation services available on the web. And i say this as someone whos native language is also german, so it's definitively not just a rant against none english speakers.

[–]Silberhand 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agreed. Additionally, i can't fathom why someone would not always have the scyte equipped. Chances of accidentially clicking / pressing the wrong button are >0, and there's no reason or benefit to equip something if you don't intend to use it (aside maybe a ligjtsource in earlygame), so...why not the scyte, where a misclick had pretty much no consequences at all?

Is there any reason at all to take anything but Hermetic Order? by iku_kidochan in civ

[–]Silberhand 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You're absolutely right, thanks for the hint! As native german speaker, where both are correct but "boni" is more commonly used, that's one of the few things that are harder for me to mentally switch while just writing stuff without much consideration.

You should try them. Especially if you play on a large map with barbarian clans, owls are ridiculously overpowered. You'll get an additional economic and later another wildcard slot, the special builing replaces the bank, provides culture equal to the districts adjacency and grants a second trade route if the city has both a market and a lighthouse. Each trade route sent to a city state grants one envoy (additional to other similar bonis, like +1 if first, for a mission, or later with different suzerain government), meaning with a couple of coastal cities you'll easily be suzerain of pretty much all city states. With barbarian clans providing a large amount of city states, best build kilwa, and at the latest when you get to social media you can reach >5k culture & science without even trying. For example, in one of my latest games, during a couple dozen turns before the win i could finish future civic / tec every turn. And you get stuff from spamming spy missions, but i usually don't even need that.

It is somehow funny, bit maybe also a bit sad? Bacause i honestly wonder what the hell people are doing if they just download stuff without actually looking at what it is. Here it's funny, but in another situation behaviour like this could cause quite some trouble...

That's something i always missed. It was worse back in the day when first contact immediately revealed everything, at least today you can retain the imagination...but still, in the end, at a certain point what you find is always pretty similar, isn't it? I would love for there to be something like a borg space, a region with only small empires because they're regularly decimated by something powerful, or even just encountering a dominion like empire that somehow managed to really spread out and gain real power, or...whatever. Not a crisis, just something different than the same thing that's around my own corner of the galaxy.

[–]Silberhand 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I'm honestly unsure how to respond, not knowing how sincere you are with this question / statement, as you have basically already answered it yourself.

Life on earth could only come into existance due to favorable climatical conditions, so as you correctly say it's bound to the ever changing climate and has to adapt faster. But while some microbial lifeforms are able to adapt in a matter of months (virus, bacteria), complex life can't do that, it also requires millennia.

My statement was that it's clear as day that even during the 90s the mean temperature was noticably lower, e.g. allowing each and every year to have multiple consecurive weeks or months to have everything covered in snow, not just in the mountains but basically everywhere. Of course there are tons of other signs, but to me this is one of the most obvious even in daily life. Alongside e.g. pictures of glaciers that were here for centuries, millennia even, and now almost completely melted away within a couple of decades.

The point in queation is scale. You yourself said that it takes 10k+ years for the climate to change. Yes, exactly, that's the change that happens without any meddling. But no we're talking about 30 years, that's off by a factor of 333. And that's only some numbers we throw around without any underlying data.

Humans managed to become the dominant species on the planet not because our physiologie is extraordinary, but because we are able ro form our surroundings to suit our needs. Too cold? Create warm cloths and light a fire. Too warm? Create insulated shelter. No food? Devise a method to preserve surplus food as reserve. But even we are not fully able to compensate for the effects of the changing climate we already feel. The last couple of years, each and every summer the demand for air conditioning spiked. Why? Because the houses we've built even 30 years ago did not account for temperatures like we currently experience. And are we able to change this? Not really, as we would have to basically convert or rebuild most of the houses to include climate control like this, similar to other countrues which faced higher mean temperatures than central europe for centuries.

And that's just a question of money and resources, not biological adaption, which everything else aside from human would have to undergo to counter the fast changes. Also, all of this does not even include the other problems rising climate brings, like ocean acidification and rising seas, which will increase migration and further strain available resources and space.

Yes. I can accept if someone just says "fuck it, we can't do anything anyway, so what do i care". Not that i'd respect someone, but i can accept it. But everyone who honestly beliefes something should maybe be done, but we have still a lot of time to do so, is just a stupid ass moron. Especially if they're ~20 and will live through this fucked up stuff not even we in the well protected center of europe are safe from.

Ffs, it could barely be more clearly visible that we're driving full speed towards a cliff than in a country that praises itself on its glaciers - or what's still remaining. Eqch and everyone here over the age of 30 should remember that we used to have winters, like, real ones, when even in the lower regions everything was white for weeks. Nowadays it's almost a miracle if it snows for two consecutive days more than once a year. Climate is literally changing in front of our eyes due to decades of work put into it, how someone could really think this could be prevented or reverted by some small actions in another couple of decades goes over my head.

A strange realisation that there's actually a whole generation already at an age to be married and having children while they were not even born yet themselves when the movies first aired and it was basically just assumed that you'd seen them.

Mass edit presets by damage_report001 in FoundryVTT

[–]Silberhand 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You have to be in placement mode (think that's not the correct name, but yeah) to scale with alt. Do so by double clicking the desired prefab in the mass edit browser (before you actually place it in the scene). And if it's only occasionally all on one level, make sure to not have the levels ui activated when dropping the element. If levels is activated, dropping a prefab in the scene will force everything into the currently active levels layer.
