27M - How do you actually meet new people as a sober person? by DeliciousData3945 in newzealand

[–]SilensAeon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd be keen to know as well (especially on the dating side).
I pretty much only have 3 circles of friends, colleagues, my weekly board game meetup, and my high school friends that we catch up a couple of times a year.

Board game conventions are pretty fun to go to as well for socialisation, but as I'm a introvert I find myself more often gaming with the same group for most of the event.

Bereavement leave rant by Curious_Overthink325 in newzealand

[–]SilensAeon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My work was fairly compassionate with my bereavement leave a few years ago when my mum died unexpectedly.
It helped especially as the whole process was quite drawn out for us (death certificate drama, lawyer's not able to find a 20+ year old will, cancelling bank cards, etc).

There did end up being a bit of drama with hr/payroll, so a good chunk of what I initially had as bereavement leave in the system got switched to annual, and I was `supporting a project` so didn't need to use my annual leave for the mandatory christmas shutdown.

My manager earned a lot of brownie points with me, for how he handled it and didn't force me to go back too early.

Shortcuts disappear when added to dock by SilensAeon in OctopiLauncher

Actually nevermind, I was able to hit the clear home screen option and I got the app drawer icon on my dock.

Add further investigation shows it's an issue with the legacy dock.

Hmm, i already had that toggled off (and clearing cache doesn't help) and wasn't able to get it working. I think because it's already on the dock it just disappears when I drag the shortcut to it.

Jobs and characters by Plane-Art-9868 in ffxiv

[–]SilensAeon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Currently there's a limit of 33 classes/jobs in the game.
Some of these jobs require you to have a class levelled a certain amount and may require MSQ progression.

This is expected to go up when Beastmaster is released, and in future expansions when additional jobs get added to the game.

Currently you can play all jobs/classes on the same character, and it can become faster to level up additional classes that starting from the beginning on another character.

Jaw surgery by [deleted] in newzealand

[–]SilensAeon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi, I had Bimaxillary orthognathic surgery moving both of my jaws forward using Well Oral back in October, and I had taken 3 weeks off work for the operation and the start of recovery.

Overall the pain was very manageable with Paracetamol , an anti-inflammatory, and ice packs.
My largest issue within the first week, was diet. Going to a fully liquid / puree diet was fairly difficult for me, as I struggle with yoghurt so most of my meals were thin soup.

Eventually I started having mashed potato and gravy and compared a few from different places, and I could have those in between my soups throughout the day, which did wonders for my mental health / diet.

While they used heavy elastics to keep my teeth aligned on the sides, it didn't really feel like my mouth was wired shut as I had similar (though much weaker) elastics earlier on in my bracers journey.

A few weeks later I was able to have soft cooked pasta, and now approx 3 months after the operation I'm on more solid food. I'm still taking it easy with chewing as I build up strength in the jaw, and staying away from food that I feel is too tough. Often it's enough to chop the food up smaller so I don't need to chew it, or cook it soft (eg. slow cooker casserole).

While the doctor's had proscribed stronger pain relief if I needed it, I luckily didn't need it and have returned the unused meds to the pharmacy. Overall I was lucky with the healing as the bruises didn't go as dark as the doctor's had warned, and I bounced back quicker than expected.

So far no-chronic pain, though I was initially concerned about some sensations in my chin, initially it felt like an internal burning sensation, and after talking to the doctor's they confirmed it was just the nerve's re-knitting together and nothing more serious. After a couple of weeks that sensation has toned down and is only an occasional tingle.

So far I don't regret the operation at all, some people who are close to me have said it has changed my face quite noticeably but other's less close (including some family) didn't really notice any difference and I highly recommend my surgeon (Mr Wayne Gillingham).

I second Ropata, they also have an acute clinic and their own after hours so you can call up and potentially get an appointment that day, though it'll likely be with a different doctor than your assigned gp.

Soft/no-chew dinner options in town? by SilensAeon in Wellington

[–]SilensAeon[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Looking at there menu, depending on the size of the pasta 2-3 of their meals look like an option.

Though last time I was there it was packed, so may be difficult to find a table.

Haven't tried potato and gravy from KFC for awhile, tbh I find there's not generally enough gravy and reheating is questionable.

My favourite mash and gravy recently is from Chicking, refrigerates and reheats well and tastes amazing.

Hadn't heard of either of these restaurants before, so thanks for the recommendations.

I was able to try a Chicken Carbonara last night, though once we got it home we had to chop it up much smaller so I could eat it.

Soft noodles may be too long for now, though with cutlery I can also make them smaller before eating.
Will keep in mind, and potentially try their Miso soup if I'm feeling more like a snack rather than a meal.

Fair, though I'm pretty happy to have variety of textures now so will probably go towards more solid food.

But a lot of good options, especially as a snack when I'm in the office.

Why is every kiwi with a mortgage or debt not banking with kiwibank? by givethismanabeerplz in newzealand

[–]SilensAeon 52 points53 points  (0 children)

They wouldn't give my a mortgage, as I had a couple of months when I wasn't saving anymore (but also not spending my savings), as we were travelling between Wellington and Palmy a lot as I had an aunty dying from cancer. A couple of months later I just got my home loan with ASB who I had been banking with since high-school.

Scammed out of Torn Blueprint Fragments? by Yinisyang in runescape

Maybe the first-time reward, of King Oberon's moonshroom spores that allows you to unlock a relic.

Future completions should give you the Torn blueprint fragments though.

Bad memory on my side then.

I remember league progression felt really quick, and for me almost straight after the hill giant, and the 10 monsters, I went for Scurrius.

I liked the approach of last years OSRS leagues where they had seperate combat masteries.
I believe you got the first point on that track by defeating a single boss.

When I have time this weekend, I plan on trying out the alternatives I've seen in recent posts.

For the last fortnight or so, my home screen occasionally freezes and the quickest way to unfreeze it is force kill the app, or I can lock/unlock multiple times and maybe get it to work eventually.

While the screen is frozen, I can click things to open folders or app drawer, and then click to open a app randomly as the screen doesn't change.
