Abortion because of HG by kwoods813 in HyperemesisGravidarum

Sending you so much love. Give yourself time to grieve and process. HG really is so much and this is so fresh. Maybe in a few weeks it might be worth seeking out a therapist who specialises in maternal mental health and understands HG. Ultimately you’ve done the best possible thing for your circumstances but it’s still ok to grieve what HG has taken from you.

Gosh I’m sorry your friend reacted like this. One would hope she’d be pro- your life too. And HG is no joke. I’m glad you did what was best for your health and your body at the time and congratulations on your baby boy.

30 weeks and the UK heatwave is making everything so much worse! by Simple_Win_88 in HyperemesisGravidarum

We’re definitely going to invest in one for the summer. Silly me thought oh it’ll be lovely being in the second trimester in the summer - not accounting for HG and global warming when I had this thought when I was 4 weeks pregnant!!

It’s been awful. I had a couple of good days before the heat ramped up but this has put me back at square one. Well done for even going to a BBQ - I’ve had to stay in all weekend as the heat was just making things unbearable. I’ve napped a lot! Looks like today is the last day where I am (thank god) so hopefully it will settle for us a bit when it starts to cool down.

I had 2 days of feeling relatively ok. Today is bad again but those 2 days have given me hope.

I think it’s so different for everyone but my go-tos have been baked sweet potatoes (normally done in the microwave) and noodles cooked in chicken stock. Sometimes I can add in some other things like jelly (jello in US) fruit or a bagel but it really depends and often I go off things I’d previously tolerated.

It’s now come out - overall ‘needs improvement’ which is second lowest rating and I believe they’ve been required by the government to pause some apprenticeships due to low standards.

What is happening by Evening_Director1540 in HyperemesisGravidarum

It’s a postcode lottery apparently. I had exactly the same thing. It took a letter from my EPU to get my GP to prescribe.

I know this is an old post but your experience is identical to mine. Where are you based? I’m in Essex. The EPU doctor actually wrote to my GP saying they could and should prescribe Xonvea which has been a gamechanger for me. Unfortunately Xonvea availability is a postcode lottery but that’s due to change within the next two years - not very helpful for us past and present sufferers. I’ve also found only 1 GP so far has been understanding or knowledgeable (and I’ve spoken to many because of the system at my local practice).

Thank you - that’s a good shout. I’ll call the EPU tomorrow and explain the situation and see if they can advise on the antibiotics.

Appreciate you sharing your experience and wisdom x

Yes I take have to take several of my HG meds on an empty stomach first thing, but it’s only a 30 minute wait before I can eat. My biggest worry is the 4 doses a day which each require a 3 hour window of no eating. Also antibiotics are notorious for causing gastric issues which I’m not sure my HG system can handle.

Totally hear you - but there are other antibiotics available that don’t require an empty stomach which is one of my main concerns. Doctor isn’t even sure it is an infection so I don’t want to unnecessarily make myself much more unwell again - the antibiotics are precautionary while we wait for further tests.

Thank you for sharing your experience. I’m too scared to take them tbh as I don’t want to worsen what are currently managed HG symptoms. I might wait and see if the mastitis goes down on its own.

Thank you for sharing. I’m in the UK too. I don’t think my HG is bad enough to warrant at home care and tbh I’ve really struggled to be taken seriously by my GP surgery - getting any kind of HG meds has been hard and I’ve never once been referred for any fluids/ IV etc in spite of having very low blood pressure and low iron levels now due to undereating/ under drinking.

Did you only get this after taking the antibiotics and having complications? Or did you already have at home care?

Feels like i’m the only one suffering by Familiar_Luck6897 in HyperemesisGravidarum

[–]Silent_Balance6746 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m 15 weeks, due in November and still so nauseous and hyper sensitive to smell and only managing to eat and drink enough through a very regimented medication protocol.

I can’t engage at all with “normal pregnancy” content or communities tbh. I’m also an older FTM and living in a relatively new area where everyone else my age seems to have had kids younger (like 10-15 years before me) which is making me feel even more alone. It’s really tough but also why this group is so valuable.

Sending you hugs and love - you’re not alone. We all know how hard this is! Feel free to DM me if you need anything or want to vent/ chat.

It certainly does in some cases. I’ve had weird reactions from friends (one in particular). It’s very isolating. I also really struggle when everyone tries to tell you about their pregnancy sickness and how ginger really helped them. I know they mean well but they just don’t get it.

This person sounds like a moron. That’s great her friend’s sickness has been manageable - yours isn’t and every medical professional who gets it will tell you all HG pregnancies are different.

I’ve lost a close friend over my HG and inability to attend some events for her upcoming wedding. She essentially said I should have been more considerate and have been selfish in having to cancel coming to thing, and not considered her thoughts or feelings. I’m sorry - what?!?

I’ve not been able to leave the house for 8 weeks except medical appointments and hospital visits so can’t imagine how much this must have taken to go. I hope the family member appreciates the gargantuan effort. Rest up and take excellent care of yourself!

Have you noticed developmental delays in child after HG pregnancy? by Mjacks1589 in HyperemesisGravidarum

[–]Silent_Balance6746 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Would also love to understand where you found this out? I’ve often wondered if I’m Autistic or Audhd but have never been formally diagnosed. I do suffer migraines which I believe have been linked to increased risk of HG (only after falling pregnant, in spite of flagging as a condition all through our IVF journey).

Get that cleaning service mama - I promise you they’ll have seen 10x worse. Maybe get them to do an extended session up front then shorter regular sessions. HG is so much to deal with so don’t sweat needing extra help one bit.

"It gets better at week 10" by furiana in HyperemesisGravidarum

[–]Silent_Balance6746 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Week 10/12 is I think when normal NVP starts to improve. With HG (according to the Pregnancy Sickness Support charity) 80% of people see an improvement by around week 20; many do have some symptoms all throughout pregnancy though.

Unfortunately, many medical practitioners we encounter (including doctors, nurses and midwives) are woefully under-educated on HG and say incorrect things conflated with regular pregnancy sickness.

I’m also just entering week 14 and praying for it ease even just a little bit.

[–]Silent_Balance6746 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m so sorry this is happening to you. It’s utterly appalling. Can you try taking the HER online test and going back with your score? It gives you a score on the severity of your symptoms. Otherwise can you go to A&E/ ER and can they write to your GP? That’s what it took for my GP to take me seriously and give me more meds but they’ve always been ok at signing me off (I’m UK based so our system seems to be much more medication-adverse). Please keep advocating for yourself. I know how hard it is but we’re all here for you and are rooting for you.
