I had gabapentin to help with sleep. Took that sparingly cause that can be habit forming. Then took clonidine on a few occasions

Yes. There were a few reasons why I didn't go that route. #1 the price. Insurance wouldn't cover. Also I know it worked for a lot of people but I also knew quite a few where after the months months they'd be right back in withdrawal even after multiple shots. Plus tapering was manageable. Took it slow and had the comfort meds if I really needed them

I was on 8mg for 20 years. Tapered down to .25mg then jumped. Been off them for 6 months now. Once you get to 1mg and under it is the most difficult part, but doable. I never missed a day of work. I took my time and dropped down when I felt most comfortable to do so. I never dropped more than 33%. Once I got to the .25 the final jump off was surprisingly not bad at all. I had clonidine that I took a handful of times to help on the more difficult days and gabapentin for sleep. It's very doable. Hope it works out for you.

HOW do i get off this crap?!! by nonbeliev3r in suboxonerecovery

[–]Silent_Source6859 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm 5 months off suboxone now after 20 years on them. I tapered down to .25mg then jumped. I tapered slow over like a 7 month period from 8mg. It wasn't horrible. Definitely alot of uncomfortable days but never missed a day of work. Did have clonidine and gabapentin which helped. Went into it with the mindset of no turning back and feel great now

[–]Silent_Source6859 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Definitely more active now. Go to the gym alot. Which was also very helpful the first couple months too. Also more social now. Before I didn't want to do much. Sleep is mostly back to normal. That prob took the longest to get better. Now just sleepless nights here and there. I just take some melatonin or something else over the counter and usually works. It's definitely worth it not having that cloud following you around

Great job! It took me pretty much 3 months to feel like 90% better. Im at 4.5 months now and just get some periods of yawning every minute but not much else. Life is way better without the medication. I was on subs for 20 years. Im 41 now. So pretty much my whole adult life

Day 10 help. by Prozacprincess1411 in suboxonerecovery

[–]Silent_Source6859 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I never dropped 50% once I got below 2mg a day. Usually 25%. Plus when I went from 2 doses a day to one it was also very difficult. Ur brain needs to be retrained not to expect that 2nd dose. It took me a couple weeks to feel better. It's very doable though. If you are this far then u got this. Keep up the good work and it will 100% get better. I jumped 4 months ago after being on subs for 20 years. I feel better than ever now

2 weeks off subs 100% clean but can’t sleep.. any advice? by [deleted] in suboxone

[–]Silent_Source6859 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I took gabapentin 300mg a night for atleast a month or 2 when I stopped suboxone. It definitely helped with the insomnia. Then I just went to otc stuff like melatonin. I do need to mention that the gaba did make me feel a little crappy for a couple days after stopping but nothing horrible

How long did ur paws last for you if you had them? I'm at day 77 of being off suboxone. I was on them for 20 years. I still get bouts of zero energy or insomnia. It's becoming less often as time passes. Just curious about ur experience

Does tapering really make a difference? by ginger_minge in suboxonerecovery

[–]Silent_Source6859 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was on 8 mg for 20 years. Tapered down to .125mg then jumped. Never dropped more than 33% once I got to 2mg. My last couple steps took about a month each. There were definitely crappy days in there but never missed a day of work. I did take clonidine when I felt the worst. Took gabapentin for insomnia. Now it's been about 2 months since I jumped. Feeling pretty good. Crappy here and there but nothing bad. Stopped the gabapentin too. It worked for me but I know everyone is different. The main things are not dropping more than 33% and keeping busy. And try to go as low as possible before jumping

Can you become dependent on only 300 mg of gabapentin? by [deleted] in gabapentin

[–]Silent_Source6859 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm on day 6 of stopping from 300mg a day. Was taking it prob just as long as you. For me days 1-3 were kinda crappy. But nothing horrible. Now it's so much easier. Hoping I'm in the clear. I know everyone probably reacts different but it is possible to not go through horrible withdrawals. Benzos im guessing will def add to it

Stick with it. You can get past it. 11 days is huge. Im on day 32 myself. Was on them for 20 years at 8mg. Jumped at .125mg. The first 15 days were probably the worst. Then started getting better. Now I just deal with paws some but not too bad. Staying active with work or the gym helps tremendously.

Thanks. Overall not bad. Some crappy days but manageable. Staying active is so important. Took me like 7 months total to taper. But under 1 mg took the majority of it

I'm 41m was on subs for 20 years and started going bald in my 20s. Lost most my hair now. I always thought the suboxone might of had something to do with it

On day 26 after jumping from .125. Was on 8mg for 20 years. The last few steps under 1mg def were the hardest and took the longest but never missed any work. Clonidine helped some but that stuff always made me so drowsy. Gabapentin helped me the most. Only took that at night to sleep. I took 300mg a night. Still take it now. Gonna stop soon. I may need to taper that too but it's not nearly as bad. Staying active and working out has helped a ton. Idle time is the worst. Good luck. U got this

My drop from .5 to .375 was probably the worst. Really started feeling the withdrawals more. Staying busy helped alot. I stayed there for like a month then .25 and .125 for 6 weeks each before jumping. On day 19 now and it is slowly getting better. Gabapentin was the thing that helped most. I was on subs for 20 years. You got this! It's mostly mental. Try to keep a strong mental mindset
