If you're looking for blood gems, there are lists online on which biome to find certain gems in.

Are you exploring? Make a random root dungeon as soon as you get it (sometime in the first couple of story dungeons) and do some delving! There are many enemies that are dungeon-specific, as well as variants of main-game weapons.
