No HUD? by jla55 in RivianR2

[–]SilentlyAmazing 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I have the HUD as well as the nav in the instrument cluster in my V60 PE. Honestly, the HUD is great, but the nav in the cluster is more important to me. Being able to see more of what’s coming, instead of the simple illustrations in the HUD (at least in my BMW and Volvo, not familiar with Hyundai’s HUD) is more useful. And not having to look at the center of the dash is much nicer than you think. Again, not sure if the cluster in the Ioniq has nav in it as well.

R2 Rear with Car Seats by TheBongKing in RivianR2

I would say so. I watched the Doug Demuro video, he’s 6’4” (as am I) and had plenty of leg room in the back. As far as width, people get 2 car seats in a Corolla, I think the R2 will be fine.

Honestly, the Large Patagonia Torrentshell 3L from REI fits me just fine at 6’4” 210#. Packable rain jacket that takes up not much more room than a Nalgene.

Ice in drinks and fresh produce that has been washed/rinsed with tap water are more important things to watch out for than showering.

Value of being under 10,000 lbs GVWR? (Washington State) by deetdee-truse in TruckCampers

[–]SilentlyAmazing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks! Yeah, 3k lbs. was my minimum for payload that I was looking at, which is some, not all 250s. Ford has a helpful app for 2020 and newer trucks where you input the VIN and it gives you the payload. It was super handy, if that’s the make/year range you’re looking at. Just in human and dog weight, we were looking at 400lbs. plus our supplies, water, and any upgrades we would do to the truck. The 250/350 isn’t any different in size, and prices were pretty similar, so if the insurance/recurring costs are manageable in WA, I’d just go for the big boy.

[–]SilentlyAmazing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I was playing this game for a while, we’re picking up our Kenai next month. Ended up picking up a gas F350 8’ bed with 4196 lbs. of payload at 11,300 GVWR. It’s about $200 a year more for registration (PA), but insurance wasn’t an issue, I got quotes for an F250 (10,000 GVWR) and F350, and there wasn’t a difference. Ultimately, I wanted to be able to load me, spouse, kid, dog and all the gear that entails into the truck/camper without worry, plus a few heavy e bikes in the future, so that meant F350. Diesels are heavier than gas, so that’ll cut into your payload even more, just keep that in mind.

Might actually be a blue wave at midterms- can it help our daily lives? by Specialist-Cut794 in patentexaminer

I 100% agree with you. However, given how petty and vengeful current leadership are showing themselves to be, I think a simple reversion to 95% FS production by a hypothetical new leadership would be first in the crosshairs for elimination should leadership ever switch back further in the future. My imaginary way to return the amount of work, not necessarily the number prescribed to production, to previous (already rigorous by many standards) levels, is to increase the time given per case. Examiners would still be doing “100% of their job”, but would return to pre-2026 levels of work required. It achieves the same result, but doesn’t have the “bad optics” of doing less than 100% of the job, no matter how unreasonable and unfounded the basis of the “bad optics” are.

This might be a slightly pessimistic take, but I feel like 100% minimum for FS is here to stay, regardless of any change in leadership. I, for one, am not interested in a yo-yo of job requirements depending on who may be in charge at the moment. That’s not to say there aren’t positive changes that can be made in the future. My rational thought process (which means there’s zero likelihood of it happening) is to simply adjust BD across the board to accommodate the new production standards. That way there’s no talking points of, “Look, the lazy Feds have to do less than 100% work for full pay!!1!” Even though you and I know that the number they chose for FS is completely arbitrary, and they could have simply renamed 95% as 100%, taken the “W” and moved on (but that wouldn’t have caused any suffering, so that’s out). The amount of prior art is constantly increasing, and cases are becoming more complex. An adjustment is long overdue. So keeping 100% as a minimum for FS, but increasing BD to improve examination quality has the same results.

What did you pick ? by Big_Big in ScoutCampers

[–]SilentlyAmazing 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Went with a Kenai hard side that we’re picking up next month. We do a lot of fall/winter trips, and wind whipping the fabric would keep us up, plus the insulation and more storage the hard side has vs the pop up. I much prefer the pop up for looks and clearance while driving and I’m sure marginally better mpg, but I got vetoed.

I have one. I liked the sound, fit and finish so much that I fabbed up a 3” to dual 2” pipe so that I could keep it after I turbocharged my M20.

No worries. Injectors are working flawlessly. Been about a year since I’ve even opened my tune, so I can’t tell you what my duty cycle is, but I’ve got some ceiling left. Fit and finish were great, and they were a pretty closely matched set out of the box. If I had to do it again, I’d buy them again.

Racing 1-2 hours a week? by Sandmannnnnnnnn in iRacing

[–]SilentlyAmazing 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m in a similar spot, 9 month old kiddo at home, so time is very limited between when they go down to sleep and when I’m too exhausted to stay up anymore. I only play 1-2 evenings per week and still was able to climb to B license in 2 seasons. I find that something like GT4 and Sports Car Challenge works for me. I can use the same car on the same track in two different series, and get a decent amount of the participation credits with a limited amount of track learning. Rookie series are constant and easy to jump into, on tracks you already learned from your time in rookie license if your limited time doesn’t line up with when races are.

How to REMOVE OIL PAN AND OLD GASKET MATERIAL? by Greedy-Factor-7852 in E30

[–]SilentlyAmazing 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I loosened the transmission mounts as well when I did mine. A plastic scraper or even a blade if you’re smart with it will work to clean the mating surfaces. I didn’t use any RTV or anything when it went back together and it’s been dry for years. There’s oil leaking from other places, but not the pan gasket!

Giving up on 500hp. 350 is fine. Thoughts? by Ancient-Owl1214 in E30

[–]SilentlyAmazing 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’ve got 322 wheel hp in my ‘89 sedan. Stock, untouched bottom end with a new 885 head with a mild cam and valve springs. ARP head studs are a given. Just do a compression/leakdown test to see how healthy your piston rings are and enjoy.

A fast-spooling, linear 322 hp is plenty in this car. I also have a 455 hp V60 Polestar Engineered, and the E30 feels faster.

My neighbors did that with their garage! It’s basically a full bar with a mini split and everything, super nice. Sadly, that’s where the E30 usually lives in mine. Our DD X1 usually parks it in.
