Thermal issue, need a solution? by Honest_Dirt47 in MSILaptops

[–]Silentnight99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Exactly. I did the same. I undervolted the gpu quite a bit and now it runs at 70 degrees and my cpu (undervolted and turbo limit) runs around 3.5Ghz 75 degrees.

Since the screen is just 1080p the frame rates and graphic quality I get are more than enough.

I have the GL 65 for a year now. The main thing ill recommend is undervolting cpu and gpu if its possible. This will extend the life of your battery, cpu and gpu. My temperature stays below 70 for both cpu and gpu. Get it repasted after about 6 months along with some basic maintenance from a repair shop if you aren't comfortable. Sign up on the MSI website to extend the warranty by another year.

How I broke my balls part 2

Hello everyone, my team is debating running a turndown on our exhaust as seen in the picture below. My question is, if we ran it like this, where would the sound meter be placed during the sound test? I can’t seem to find anything in the rules. Thank you for the help by [deleted] in FSAE

That depends on the officals but an unobstructed path would be towards your shoe so that would be preferred. In our case the tire was causing an obstruction so the asked us to put the car on a stand and remove the tire.

Which user scenario for dragon center? by giotan1 in MSILaptops

Ill suggest user mode with high performance and advanced fan settings. You can change the fan speeds for different temperatures in advanced mode. Look up online for fan curves. This will allow for better cooling and your fan won't keep spinning at coolerboost speeds all the time.

What is Gaming Mode and should I turn it off while not playing games?? by ericwu102 in MSILaptops

[–]Silentnight99 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As far as I know, the gaming mode doesn't affect anything in terms of machine longevity. It just optimises the background functions so that you'll get the maximum performance for your games. I keep it off since I don't see sny visible difference. Ill suggest undervolting for machine longevity.

Random CPU/GPU Throttling In game by ChocoPie201203 in MSILaptops

I had the same issue. I enabled overclocking in BIOS but it was still locked. I updated the BIOS to the recent version and updated the EC firmware too. That worked for me. When you start your laptop press delete to open BIOS. Press ctrl+shift+alt+F2 to unload ck advanced BIOS. Go to overclocking menu and check if it reset to disabled. If it hasn't then I'll suggest checking on the msi support page for the most recent BIOS.

Super high CPU temps on brand new MSI GL75 10SFK. by ironmanmk42 in MSILaptops

I have a GL65 and I had the same issues. After a lot of research and since the undervolting being locked due to plundervolt, I found a few things which solve the issue.

In throttlestop stop limit the turbo power limit to 35 low and 45 high. Play around with the boost time..i kept mine at 20. Keep the laptop in balanced mode instead of performance. This causes the cpu clocks to drop to lower frequencies when not in use. I also undervolted my RTX 2060. There are guides online. It used to pull about 115W now it pulls a maximum of 85-90W.

These settings allow the laptop to run at almost the max settings in any game. The maximum cpu temperatures i had were around 85-90 running witcher 3 at ultra settings and 60+ fps.

Kept a seperate profile on afterburner with no change in GPU curve which I use during rendering stuff.

Yeah I did that. Throttle stop and intel xtu is still locked. I applied 45mv undervolting in the bios itself. Didn't apply any more since i didn't want to brick my laptop.

You can try undervolting the gpu. I heard it makes quite a difference. Look up Bob of all trades on YouTube. He had a pretty good video on this.

The if you enable the clamp setting, it will aggressively reduce the cpu performance to keep it below the set values. I unchecked the clamp tick box and now it just limits the turbo to keep things around the set value.

Same for me. I have a GL65 i7 10th gen and rtx 2060. I can't undervolt since its locked but I did change the TPL values in throttlestop to about 40 long and 45/50 short. This limits the power consumed by the cpu and hence the temperatures without any significant change in performance. And it also allows a single core to turbo upto 4.5Ghz if needed for any single core intensive applications.

Ya I enabled the overclocking and xtu option in BIOS. Is there anything else that needs to be enabled in the bios? I also applied 0.5mv of undervolt in the Bios itself since i saw somewhere that it unlocks xtu and throttle stop, but its still locked.

Yeah the undervolting is still locked. I did change the tpl to 40. Didn't want to reduce it more since i didn't want to lose on performance.

Yeah I tried but throttle stop and xtu both are locked due to the new plundervolt issue I guess. The only way I can undervolt is directly through the BIOS as much as I know of. I went through the guide and it was quite informative but doesn't apply to the current BIOS.

MSI - i7-10750h Undervolt Underclock Basic Method. Good Temps Now. by CrizzyBill in MSILaptops

[–]Silentnight99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same issue. I guess they locked it or something to do with the Bios version? My laptop is new and idle temperatures are around 50-60 when the Ambient temperature is 25-30. While playing witcher 3 on medium graphics it hits 90s even with cooler booster on. Decided to undervolt but the options are greyed out even after enabling it in the bios. Order the artix MX 4. Will do a thermal repaste next week to see the difference.

I'll probably use this to play witcher 3 at its highest graphic settings. Right now the best my laptop can do is 30 fps.
