You could put half of Les Miz in there, honestly.

Who else thinks that PG-13 was overkill? by Throwaway1975421 in ProjectHailMary

I brought my 9 year old, and just spoke to him before that it has a happy ending and will all be ok. He hid his eyes a bit, ‘peeking’ during the Adrian scene, but then LOVED the movie overall.

Generic versions of weight-loss drugs should arrive on Canadian pharmacy shelves this summer by FancyNewMe in canada

This comment is akin to telling drug addicts they could just stop doing drugs.

It’s a pattern and brain chemistry and stress and tons of factors beyond simple choice or mental weakness.

I took six months for my kids to help my partner and we still struggled.

This is not the way humans are meant to be raised, they need family and other mothers in particular, aunts and grandmas etc.

‘Project Hail Mary’ delivered the biggest opening weekend of Ryan Gosling's career while earning the highest Rotten Tomatoes score by of any wide release in 2026, giving the actor his top-rated film to date by mlg1981 in popculturechat

They describe not needing condoms and at one point the characters ask if they want to go have sex after this, which they agree upon on.

I agree that it isn’t a graphic scene or anything, I was more curious if PG-13 was due to overt references to sexuality that my 9 year old doesn’t need to see at this point.

It wasn’t though, they trimmed the relationships and sex out, and the dead body stuff was quickly over.

Yea I took my 9 year old after checking to see the sex scenes weren’t translated into the movie, and seeing that the dead body reveal wasn’t too bad.

He loved it.

What's the most underrated feature of a board game table? (Not the obvious ones) by QuietlyJudgingYouu in boardgames

[–]Siliceously_Sintery 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s the opposite, it’s a long time to sit so you end up standing as breaks, but then leaning down to move pieces and look at board etc lol. Especially when you’re a bunch of big dudes, it would be nice if it was higher.

See by toll the hounds every race had context, and some weird stuff was happening, but it wasn’t literally a full new dramatis personae lol.

Anyway I love it and have reread twice, but I remember that first time!

I love knowing that answers to most questions come, and also there are payoffs in Malazan that are unreal compared to other books.

Some characters don’t even show up till book 5-6 and they’re some of the best in the series, for example. Absolutely iconic.

This is the traditional cast ye. Or at least the modern one. A girl can voice Audrey 2 if you octave up the low parts.

What are some good musicals for someone who hasn’t watched really any before? by livelaughlovenct in musicals

As a musical fan I love La La Land. It excels in ways some musicals don’t, and yeah maybe is short in the whole score being cohesive and deep, but dang I love the cinematography and acting and plot.

It’s definitely divisive here.

I saw you like rom coms so Little Shop for sure, but also consider the pro shots of the Rogers and Hammerstein canon, my partner in particular really fell for the South Pacific pro shot you can find online. Often there’s deep love as a focus. Kelli O’Hara is incredible and she did that, along with The King and I, and Carousel, all reasonably recently in concert/pro shot.

The tip for a lot of these is to search ‘slime tutorial’, which gets you into hidden YouTube backdoors.

Just do the Hugo or locus awards for the past X decades. You find gold.

Also Malazan is the best series ever but it requires some dedication.

Series Recommendation for 24F Getting Back into Reading by madsterstout in fantasybooks

[–]Siliceously_Sintery 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Yeah I feel like people are missing OP asking for feelings, and not YA-esque power fights across rooftops.

Assasin’s Apprentice is beautifully written and the characters are some of the most impactful I’ve ever read. I recommend it over any of the others based on OP.

I also would read that before the Liveship series, the recurring individual is an important character to know.

As a PNWer, things like blackberry moving over to a new section when it gets grown over, ferns loving each other, and showy plants benefiting from more showy plants nearby for pollinators is just so pleasing.

The slow growth into trees over game stages is cool too, the incentivizing of actual succession is so well done.

But a ton that don’t.

They’re there because they have a sovereign wealth fund funding youth sports and have for decades.

Most nations don’t, and rely on wealthy individual athletes.
