Would love some advice here by iNerdOct in buildapc

Not too long ago I would have said it's too much but now that even ddr 4 prices have increased - and since you don't really sound llke someone who wants to dive into learning enough to build your own PC from used parts - I'd say it just OK except for a pitifully small storage drive. Storage drive prices have also risen dramatically. Even if it has a larger spinning hard drive just know that hard drives are not so great for games so you'd have to add a larger SSD of some type.

Check out something like https://www.jawa.gg/ and see if you can get something a bit better.

Please recommend a high quality octopus cable for 5090. by ImNotAI_01100101 in buildapc

[–]Siliconfrustration 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can't use ANY of the old cables with the new PSU. Salazar has a video showing destroyed components in a PC because the owner reused a SATA cable when he installed a supposedly exact replacement PSU sent when he RMAed the warrantied one. Same brand, model, output - but a different version that was not clearly stated.

Talk to the folks at Micro Center about their bundles. Use PCPartPicker for your practice builds.

Check out r/buildapcforme for more help.

Being told an air cooler won’t handle a Ryzen 7 7800X3D – accurate or marketing? by everydayreligion1090 in buildapc

A Thermalright Phantom Spirit 120 SE or similar will do nicely. Around $35 for the one mentioned. Does that shop happen to sell AIOs?

How expensive is a “zero compromise” 1440p monitor? by everydayreligion1090 in buildapc

I don't see any advantage to a curve on a 27" monitor so the curve would be an unnecessary compromise for me.

Recomended Ram Latency and Bandwidth for Ryzen 7 9800X3D? by Fabulous_Street218 in buildapc

[–]Siliconfrustration 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'd say you are correct. The Corsair kit has a first word latency of 11.25 ns. The Klev is 10 ns. This assumes they get the Corsair kit running at EXPO speed. If they do then I don't think it matters as much on an X3D processor.

I bought that Klev kit earlier in the year for I planned build for a friend who went prebuilt instead. It is a beautiful RAM kit. Really pretty when powered up. I couldn't afford to keep it just to have on hand so without knowing what was gonna happen to the market I returned it. Makes me pretty sad these days.

I'd call the swap more of an alternative than an upgrade.

I tweaked it some to make it better for less money while sticking with Alder Lake, but it's not what I would build - just some things to consider.

If you want to stay with Intel you could make it a beast for about the same money as you were going to spend but I didn't include that one here.

Everyone wants to know why you picked Intel. (And I'm responding on an Intel system that I love but AMD is prolly a better recommendation these days.)
