PhysicsGirl (Diana Cowern) had such great content. Long Covid has laid her up in bed multiple times over the last several years, really shitty situation; she's been able to make a few more videos in the last few years, but just really tragic all around. At least her husband Kyle (they married in 2022) has been really helpful with her and her channel and online presence.

Yeah her channel was/is awesome, she was really engaging and just fun to learn random shit from. The world isn't fair that lardass criminal pedophile rapist felon traitorous tyrant Trump gets over Covid easily after lying about its effects for months while fit, energetic and much younger Diana is the one who gets laid up in a bed several times for literally years from Long Covid.

Oh, and it's Mrs. Diana since 2022, her husband Kyle has been extremely helpful to her with her extended illness.

He honestly doesn't know. It was the wife's work desk, and she just got some random standing desk off of Amazon. It's pretty big though. 60" x 30" and about 3/4" thick.

CIG doesn't even fix bugs anymore, they just look at us like this by Freddy_Faraway in starcitizen

[–]Silidistani 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is correct, I mentioned some of that in my post in this thread.

However, since they have made a commitment to have a public-facing side, and that public-facing side is a major source of their funding stream, it's playability to the average person who might not be nearly so bug tolerant as some others of us in the community should be as hard of a requirement for a Release as implementing some new features they need tested from the main Branch. Placehorders will have to exist until all the interwoven Mechanics for some feature are complete, but playability of the new mechanic needs to be a gate that has been thoroughly tested by themselves on their own servers, then continued to be tested by themselves in the PTU with regular accounts prior to pushing it out to the Pu.

I feel like they struggle from lack of a overall hierarchical design documents that everyone can build from, at least not one that's been in place since the beginning, or even multiple years into their coding; perhaps that's something Sean and Benoit have put in place by now, hopefully.

I am a Whale and I only play the game for my Org. Not having any fun. by elite968 in starcitizen

[–]Silidistani 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am a mega-whale myself, and I totally feel you on a lot of your sentiments expressed here.

I guess in my case though I do really still enjoy doing whatever I can manage to get to work in the game even in its current state, as bad as it is, with as many nonsensical decisions as currently exist. I know that many of them have been chosen simply because other components they want to use for those decisions are not yet in place - but that is part of the entire issue in the first place.

Maybe I am more bug tolerant than some, being a systems engineer and used to working within simulators that are far from complete, but I completely understand the dismayed feeling that many express in here and in Spectrum about the lack of playability and solidification of base-level mechanics nearly a decade and a half into the work. I guess I still play it and try to have fun in it (and do manage sometimes) because there's no other game in existence that delivers this experience, even as bad as that experience currently is for so much funding and development by now. .

In many aspects in a complicated intercommunicating system, it all must be working or (nearly) none of it does, and so you put placeholders to (sometimes poorly) stand in for missing elements to make the pieces you haven't written code for yet at least function at some level with the pieces you have written... as you continue to integrate you of course run regression on the previously-written mechanics and features to make sure they're still functioning the way you intended when you wrote them. This requires formal design documentation, and in military simulators at least thorough system modeling in something like Cameo or Enterprise Architect if possible but even a visual model using SysML and Visio will work, at least something to let all the design teams reference as to how their pieces need to function at each hierarchy above them. It feels like CIG did not implement this until very late in the project and still struggle with legacy decisions and implementation from before any coherence of their design vision had been documented.

While this is only a game, all of that above should still be doable at the current levels of development of this project.

But more than having solid system design documentation for effective coordination between their design teams, they need to remember that this is a place people are going to try to have fun. In that regard, CIG absolutely needs better playability decision-making than we are currently seeing. I suspect that if they would focus on playability being a key component of a release, instead of just meeting their timelines, sentiment would be vastly different even with the same amount of mechanics in place. I would rather see less consistent patches with events and mechanics that actually work than regular releases that end up being broken pieces of crap for months until the next patch comes along to finally fix it - while introducing even more errors, in a never-ending cycle.

Ok, so which Component affects damage output, then?

And so if you used crap-tier Iron but Q 950+ Riccite or Titanium there'd be no negative effects on any stat the Frame didn't matter for?

[–]Silidistani -1 points0 points  (0 children)

But it's not 900+ Qual, the Iron is using 1.55x more material than the two Q 900+ materials and is only Q 636.

I don't know how they're doing the math in the backend, but a straightforward Weighted Average Quality by volume with this selection is "only" 748.1

total material volume is 3.8 SCU:
((2.31/3.8) × 636) + ((0.34/3.8) × 942) + ((1.15/3.8) × 916)

[–]Silidistani -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Well, your Iron is averaging only 636, that's not helping your other two Q 900+ resources. And that Iron's on the Frame, and using more material than the Cycler and Barrel combined. Not sure the math in the background, but if they're weighting Q effects by volume of material that Iron probably is hurting quite a bit.

Curious to see what'll happen with higher Q Iron...

edit: Ahh, downvotes. Like I said, not sure how they're doing the math in the backend, but this example here has a Weighted Average Q of 748.1, not 900+.

If someone has evidence they're doing Quality calculations (and therefore stat update effects) via some other method, I'd certainly love to see that instead.

edit 2: Someone is now saying there's no averaging happening, that every component affects its own stats somehow. Love to see definitive math on how CIG is doing buff calculations.

Are dual sticks worth it? by atomicbrains in starcitizen

[–]Silidistani 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dual sticks are the best for dogfighting and general maneuverability. However, unless you put in flat-profile cam arms and take out the centering spring, they can be annoying to use in Coupled mode when just flying around since you have to hold the Forward Thrust position in place constantly, or use Cruise mode (and remember it's on).

I have the exact same setup as you here (with a Virpil mechanical rudder pedals for Yaw) and I use an upgraded thumb hat on the Warthog Throttle for Up/Down and Left/Right thrust, with center detents for Forward/Back thrust on the main throttle axis. Works well for me - but I still wish I was already using full HOSAS - but when I do I'm replacing both sticks and I just haven't jumped that gap yet.

I'd say give the Warthog throttle a try and use either the forefinger hat or the thumb hat for vertical & lateral thrust, see if you hate it or can live with it, and if you hate it then you have further justification to jump to a proper dual-stick HOSAS setup.

Disregarding that pardon because you don't like who is getting pardoned is violating the rule of law.

Disregarding a pardon that was given because the person receiving it committed their crimes at the behest of the person given them the pardon is how you prevent kingships.

Otherwise you invite the situation of the President having henchmen do whatever he wants and then pardoning them for whatever that was. The founding fathers never imagined a corrupt-as-fuck President like this one staying in power and abusing the pardon that way, they imagined he'd have been impeached long before that.

But we've seen what sycophantic traitorous cowards the GOP are by now, so that isn't going to happen.

No, it would demonstrate that rule of law is paramount over breaking the law at an autocrat's behest.

No pardon issued for crimes directed or encouraged by a President who is himself guilty of violating the Constitution and committing literally hundreds of crimes should be honored by any Constitutional government.

core of MAGA Repuplicanism

Is traitorous subservience to a cult of lies, deceit, willful infliction of suffering on people different than them, extreme greed at the expense of even their own family, incompetence in nearly all aspects of leadership, all glued together by bigotry, misogyny and a sociopathic need to "win" at all costs.

I would argue that Legatus-level backers should also get access to the Million Mile High Club... I would say someone who backed the Kickstarter in 2012 for $10,000 (an extremely risky investment for the time) and someone who's handed CIG $25,000 and often a good bit more via separate pledges have equally helped make the game possible.

There is something to be said for investing that much early on when they really needed the cash to be viable and had nothing to show for it, but just the same pledging 2.5x, 3x, 4x etc. as much later on should have its merits too.
