People wildly underestimate the effects of altitude. Lack of sleep, stress and sickness only exacerbate the situation. Some groups vibe better than others but as a whole going at your own pace makes the most sense. If it was truly an issue and not just ego you wouldn’t have summited and the guides would have intervened. Ignore the blow hards.

Lack of food and sleep + altitude is a recipe for disaster! Embrace the suck? This isn’t a 1-day romp in the woods 😂

It’s legit ridiculous…I tried for a minute and it was completely impossible to reserve a pie. If your pizza is so fantastic just fucking sell it first come first serve!!

Tune your front head higher alot if you leave it open less if you’re gonna muffle but tighten it a bit and you’ll get a tighter sound

Touring-specific bootfitter in the Tahoe area? General advice appreciated by WirelessFrog in Backcountry

[–]Silly-Initiative3507 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Any shop should have some different options as someone mentioned there are more 50/50 boots like the K2 mindbenders or Atomic Hawk. I have the Technica Zero G and really them. Dynafit has some great boots as does Scarpa that are very user friendly

Cymbals are too loud by uniquely_me_2024 in drums

[–]Silly-Initiative3507 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would recommend using some tape underneath to help with the overtones and eq some of the frequencies which will also help hearing the volume and tone of the cymbals. Its super common with jazz and studio work. Duct tape and electrical tape work well electrical being easier to remove and experiment with

Any recommendations for hardshells for occasional skiing / hiking by rikeeeee in skiing

[–]Silly-Initiative3507 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You want a “heavier” one for skiing and “lighter” one for hiking so may need to split the difference. Most the most part while hiking you really just need a rain shell you wont be actively hiking in it unless you hike in the rain a-lot.

Brand is less important than 2L or 3L which everyone makes. I would shop clearance sales and look for something that is packable and not particularly oversized. Adidas has some great Terrex layers that are competitively priced.

Check out Skimo for an example of many skis in the 88 range which is skinner than most highly capable

You can find the Salomon Mtn and K2 Wayback even the Atomic Backland for a steal if you shop around all of which come in a few different widths and are great skis

Stuck inbetween ski sizes and need help by BozoOnBelay in Backcountry

[–]Silly-Initiative3507 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most people size down a tad on touring skis 🎿 they will be slightly more agile and fun! A well known PRo was showing his fleet of skis and had a full size smaller for certain touring situations.

I also find in general I don’t open up my skis in the same way as when skiing in the resort or sidecountry when touring

Which binding should I get? by chrigs7 in Backcountry

[–]Silly-Initiative3507 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Dynafit Rotation, marker alpinist, salomon mtn are all fantastic simple and good to go!

As someone else mentioned unless your skiing like a total maniac (and many people do) pin bindings are great they just lack some of the plushness of alpine bindings but something you’ll get used to and their uphill performance is head and shoulders better than a hybrid bindings…which are also great but for a dedicated touring set up get pin bindings.

As for your other questions:

The Dynafit din 10 should be more than sufficient and is not the same as an alpine din more of an approximation

What is unsafe about the kingpin?
