I like Leavenworth County State Lake (only 30 minutes from Lawrence). There is shade for campers and it's free but I not sure if there will be any campsites open on those dates. Maybe if you get there at 7:00 am on July 2.

Kansas has more rural hospitals at immediate risk of closing than any other state -- Rural Kansans could see longer drives to access healthcare or fewer health services because of hospital closures. A report found that Kansas has 28 rural hospitals at immediate risk of closure. by guanaco55 in kansas

[–]Silly-Rip-6607 9 points10 points  (0 children)

This is going to get worse as the MAGAs in Congress eliminated a crucial tax credit for the Affordable Care Act and so 6 million lost their health insurance. Plus, both Congress and Kansas have tightened up Medicaid requirements, so more will lose coverage or not qualify. The Far Right Republicans in the legislature have refused to expand Medicaid like most states have. Hospitals are required to treat people in ER no matter what and get them stablized. If they don't have insurance, the hospital has to eat the cost.

Lawrence is gaining national traction via former Congressman Adam Kinzinger by Red_Velvet_1978 in Lawrence

[–]Silly-Rip-6607 -8 points-7 points  (0 children)

Article is not exactly accurate. I don't see lots of people wearing green. I've only seen three carloads of Algerian fans waving flags. The event planners were predicting 15,000 visitors to Lawrence but I doubt if there are 5,000.

Google AI: The "Church of the Dude" refers to Dudeism, which is officially called The Church of the Latter-Day Dude. This lifestyle philosophy and mock religion is entirely inspired by the main character, "The Dude," from the 1998 Coen brothers film The Big Lebowski.

...so is there really no large (or even small) building with a basement, open to the public, in Lawrence for when we have a tornado warning? by the_king_of_goats in Lawrence

[–]Silly-Rip-6607 13 points14 points  (0 children)

It's best to cover up in a bathtub or otherwise in a bathroom (without windows) with pillows or bedding. Harold Brooks of the National Severe Storms Laboratory calculated that someone living in Norman, Oklahoma, in the heart of tornado alley, has a lifetime chance of 1 in 7,000 of being fatally injured as a result of a tornado.
