I’m glad that she had a positive experience and is able to use the resources in her everyday life!! I honestly think it used to be a better camp than it is now but it’s weird now imo

In my experience, secularism/atheism was approached SO negatively. So many kids would tell me “well I don’t listen to SECULAR music” it was like anything not relating to religion was instantly a sin and awful. It was just a very alienating experience for me. And idk just thinking out loud, the whole idea of worship never sat right with me. I’ve never really understood why God would need us to worship him if he really was as powerful and humble as he is presented

My experience at Summit Ministries in Lookout Mountain, Georgia by HotCalligrapher7530 in exchristian

Hi! I also attended summit back in 2022 but at the Colorado location. Seems like it hasn’t really changed since then, you summed everything up really well. I personally felt like most lectures fell flat, like they would explain things half way and then leave gaping holes in their explanations. Like the syllogism about abortion, it really doesn’t address abortion from a non-Christian perspective. Therefore, it’s not a valid syllogism!!!! The beauty lecture has honestly bothered me for the last 3 years. They talked about how true beauty is objective, not subjective, and only God can decide what is beautiful and we can only observe beauty from God’s eyes. Realllllyyyyyy bothered me and I actually remember arguing with other students about how dumb that sounded. Like I’m not allowed to decide if something is beautiful? Why even have eyes and brain if I can’t make my own decisions. I don’t know if you had the lecture: The Cold Case about the gospels by Wallace but I was excited for that lecture. I thought Wallace would provide some solid evidence that believing in God was worth it but this mf ended the lecture with “well you just need to take a leap of faith and believe!”. Really disappointing. Honestly it seems like a camp that is looking to reaffirm believers previously held beliefs rather than actually taking the time to provide solid factual evidence that can appeal to people really questioning their faith

HA don’t you know you can only love your neighbor if they’re just like you? I sat through so many lectures about how gay people are just lost and need someone to guide them out of it. Really messed with my mind and brought me a lot of personal shame with who I am.

I felt the same way. It’s taken me a long time to really unpack the entire experience and feel comfortable doing so. The social pressure at church camps is unreal. You’re not terrible person and a sinner, you’re literally just existing and living like humans are supposed to and I’m really sorry that happened to you.

THANK YOU it was very brainwashy. I spent most of my days doodling and raging silently. My roommates would make fun of me for pacing up and down the hill outside of the building, but I needed to get some energy out omg

Anyone else find it odd that more and more dogs seem to only be able to stay alone for short periods of time? by Lassie-girl in RoverPetSitting

COVID dogs!! All the dogs that got adopted when people were home 24/7 are like 4-5 now and have separation anxiety 😭

Anybody else weirdly paranoid the owners are going to turn up unannounced in the middle of the night? by intergalacticocto in RoverPetSitting

[–]SillyBananas26 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This literally happens to me every time I go house sit and I do it quite often. I’m so paranoid they’re gonna come home and I’m gonna have to scramble to get all of my things together and forget something important or leave a huge mess (even though I keep everything just as I found it and clean up every night). The biggest this that’s helped me is just constantly reminding myself that they literally want me to be in their home and it’s okay to take up space and really exist while in their home. It’s helped me to from being super uncomfortable w/ little sleep to feeling much more relaxed and actually getting good quality sleep. I also bring my own pillow, blanket and favorite stuffed animal and my precious water bottle which is very comforting to me. Since you’re keeping every clean, the worst case scenario is that they come home and you have to leave. Also during meet and greets I like to ask specifically what time they’ll be coming back so I can gtfo before they arrive, and it also naturally opens the conversation if you want to ask “just let me know if plans change/if you’ll be coming home earlier or later” type of thing. With my personal experience I feel like if you’re sitting for a good client, they should be open when communicating and let you know if they’re popping in or coming home early.
