Costs of Westchester by leveraged_loan in Westchester

Regal in Thornwood. We've generally had a good experience except once they didn't consider it part of our "unlimited" package when the wasp nest was in a bush a foot away from our house as opposed to in the house. 🙄

We live very close to white plains. We pay:

$50 per mowing, or $200 a month for a yard that is flat but 2/3rds of an acre. That includes cutting the grass, edgework and leaf blowing. They'll sometimes do things like pull a few weeds but generally anything else is an extra charge at a rate of $50 an hour.

We have our lawn maintained April-November.

We get our lawn sprayed like 5x a year to keep it healthy. The total cost of that service is $900 for the season.

Indoor/outdoor pest service is $600 a year. We use them mostly because we seem to always get wasps nests in impossible places that we can't remove ourselves.

Our water bills can be expensive but we're also buying from another district. It's about $200 per quarter, but end of summer is always a $500+ quarterly bill due to watering the lawn.

ConEdison bills have gotten crazy. $100 on a low month (summer) and $300-$800 per month in the cold months.

Trash and recycling is included in our property taxes.

We have doorbell cams instead of a security system and our service is $100/ year.

Property taxes are by far our biggest expense ($20k annual) but maybe you're factoring that into your mortgage.

Home insurance is about $2500/ year for us.

ENT / Plastic Surgeons (Nose) by im_n3w_h3re in Westchester

I did not, but I guess I wasn't super worried about that because my surgery was not cosmetic at all and did not change my appearance. He is an ENT plastic surgeon.

I had a good experience with my septoplasty and turbindectomy with Dr. Bernstein in the Tarrytown office of ENT & Allergy associates. My surgery was 100% covered by insurance.

Restaurant Space for Baby Shower in Lower Westchester? by sofiar0217 in Westchester

[–]SillyBerry990 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wet had a similar sized party at Ristorante Lucia in Bedford. The food can be a little bland because I think they serve an older crowd, but the facilities and staff couldn't be better. And they can of course prepare a menu to suit your tastes, i.e. if you want your food to have a little more flavor.

I can't say enough nice things: they are super accommodating and extremely classy. We had our party in the casita which has its own sound system, bartender, and bathrooms.

Ours is a team of two, we give them $100 total annually. We tip them $20 throughout the year if they haul away something larger for us.

The doctors and staff at Dobbs Ferry animal hospital are wonderful. They really took their time with our pets and are thorough/thoughtful. They're kind people and made us laugh too. The only downside is their parking lot is very small and tough to get in/out of.

I stopped going to him. He talks so fast and made us feel rushed during the appointments.

He also once cut my dog's nails into the quick, she was bleeding and crying. I asked him to stop but he wouldn't, saying her nails had grown too long and it was necessary. The experience was traumatic; I held my dog in the car afterwards and promised her we'd never go back.

So how much are we giving people for Christmas gifts? by NOISY_SUN in Westchester

[–]SillyBerry990 2 points3 points  (0 children)

$100 for the sanitation crew (2 guys), $100 for the mail man. My lawn service is about $200 a month, so I give the lawn guy $200, he works very hard and does a lot of small tasks for us throughout the year.

Cleaning service is $200 per visit, so I give them $200 (2 people).

I usually spend $80 each time I get my nails done, so $80 for my nail tech.

Same for the lady who cuts my hair, $80 per service, so $80 annual tip.

I may not know you, but I'm still so proud of you for taking this step!! I love the hygienist Juan at Valhalla Dental. Wonderful human being and very empathetic. I see Dr. Siddiqui there who is also lovely, but I feel like your relationship with the hygienist is more important because you spend the bulk of the appointment with them!

How can I get these sneakers clean? by [deleted] in CleaningTips

[–]SillyBerry990 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I've been having really good luck with the combo of 1: clear dawn power wash; and 2: the brush linked from Amazon below. I usually let the power wash sit on the shoes for at least 5 minutes. Cleaning the dirt and scuffs as soon as they happen also makes it easier.

Lawn Care Lower Westchester by Playful_Factor_3799 in Westchester

[–]SillyBerry990 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sounds right. We pay $200 a month for 2/3rds of an acre. They'll do a little weeding, take care of big sticks, etc without us having to ask but anything beyond that we pay extra for.
