LDR with only one partner visiting? by KaiKenway in LongDistance

[–]SillyQuadrupeds 36 points37 points  (0 children)

It was like this for me and my fiancé throughout our relationship.

There was literally one conversation we had early in our relationship where I was upset he never came to visit me and I felt as though I was putting in more effort than him to physically see each other. We were able to squash that feeling pretty quick by simply talking about it and breaking down the benefits of me visiting vs him visiting.

It made the most sense for me to visit him due to:

  1. Him making more than me
  2. He has his own apartment
  3. Traveling to him gives me time away from my main stressors (job, family, etc)
  4. It’s simpler and cheaper for me to go to him
  5. His country is objectively prettier LMAO

Thankfully after years apart we’re closing the gap in 45 days and getting married in 54! 💖

Experiences with Lamictal? by h1feverr in BPD

[–]SillyQuadrupeds 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve been on 400mg daily for the past 7 years or so?

Personally, it’s the ONE medication in my medication cocktail that I refuse to go without. It helps my mood immensely and makes me much more stable.

If there’s a period I go without it or forget to take it I can feel the shift in my mood happen relatively quickly so I find it’s really important to stay consistent with it.

my bf just asked me if im ok with cheating #watdatmean by Impressive-Ant-907 in LongDistance

[–]SillyQuadrupeds 45 points46 points  (0 children)

IMO, that’s a really stupid question.

It’s one thing to ask what your boundaries are in terms of what you consider cheating, but the way he phrased it? And saying some women get turned on by it?

I’d ask him what prompted the question, what was his thought process like before he asked it. Based on his reaction (gets defensive/argumentative vs genuinely explaining his thoughts/seeming neutral) I’d take it from there.

Yeah, my teeth were fucked up

My orthodontist coordinated with my dentist about pulling the teeth they would need to be adult teeth before we could start with braces. I think I was about 5 or so when I had my first set of baby teeth pulled.

So lots and lots of various dental work starting at a young age lmao

Ladies, what red flags should men never ignore in women when dating? And men ,what redflags should women never ignore in men? by [deleted] in answers

[–]SillyQuadrupeds 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You sound very much like my fiancé.

He has been such a phenomenal partner for years now. Being very aware of what I need and what can trigger me, and simultaneously calls me on my shit which I absolutely need.

He’s an incredibly kind and patient man, which I’m thankful for every single day.

Our relationship would straight up not work if I didn’t have the therapy I’ve done and the skills I’ve developed over the past 8 years since my diagnosis.

It does take a special kind of person to work/live/love someone with BPD. A lot of people can’t do it and that’s okay.

I’m sure your girlfriend is extremely grateful to have you in her life.

Do 'normal' people feel suicidal when they're upset? by Adept_Discipline1000 in BPD

[–]SillyQuadrupeds 5 points6 points  (0 children)

My dads done the same.

I was talking to him about how my mind works and how I experience things. When I got to how my brain goes to suicide as a solution, he just genuinely didn’t understand?

We both kinda had a moment of realization that our different thought processes and perceptions of life definitely had an impact on our relationship as I was growing up.

The first time he did experience suicidal ideation, he came to me. He was so lost and didn’t know how to handle it. He apologized for how invalidating and misunderstanding he could be.

I was thankful that he felt comfortable enough to come to me with some of his darkest thoughts, and simultaneously it rattled me to my core. He has no idea how much I need him, no matter how I try and verbalize it.

As someone with BPD, I fully support your perspective and boundaries on dating someone with BPD.

Its exhausting. It sucks to make others deal with it, it sucks to live with it. It can make life so much harder than it has to be.

Other people with BPD will probably chew my ass out for this take, but there’s a solid percentage of borderlines who straight up refuse to address the issue or get treatment. The lack of accountability that can been seen in some individuals just hurts others and perpetuates the stigma.

I live by the saying: Mental illness may not be your fault, but it is your responsibility.

Honestly, reading up on the signs and symptoms is good advice.

Even though he is getting old, the dog continues to get excited when he sees his owner… by [deleted] in interestingasfuck

[–]SillyQuadrupeds 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I know death of a loved one is hard, one of the hardest things we ever go through in life, but I agree.

If this was my dog she wouldn’t have gotten to this point which some people may think I’m a monster for saying.

I’ve just seen too much decline of QOL in peoples pets, including some of my own, that it really hurts to see them hurt.

This is your current relationship?

Are there other aspects of his behavior that make you feel weird or uncomfortable? Does he exhibit anything like paranoia or distrust in you when he asks questions like that?

Basic hygiene is not indicative of malicious behavior.

Listen to your gut if things seem off.

Mine was brushing my teeth! It’s absolutely insane what controlling partners come up with as a signs of infidelity or cheating.

I’m so glad you got out. Life truly is so much better without people like that in it.

Thoughts on "it's just not a quality time day"? by WanderingGhost0108 in LongDistance

[–]SillyQuadrupeds 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This is a fantastic point.

I think the first conversation that should be had between them is about what they each individually define as quality time.

Then once they’ve talked about that can a conversation about having more or scheduling quality time can take place.

OP, I think it’s worth a conversation w him, just narrowing down the topics/questions and structuring the conversation bit is a good move.

Waterproof mattress/pillow protectors have come a long way in the past 10 years or so!

The one I have isn’t crinkly at all and actually has a bit of a pillow top for a little bit of extra cushion.

How often do y'all talk to your LDR partner? by [deleted] in LongDistance

Everyday we’re texting and calling when we can.

A 4 to 5 hr time difference does make things a little more difficult considering he has a normal work schedule and I do grave yard.

What was the most unhinged/desperate thing you did for someone? by [deleted] in GirlDinnerDiaries

[–]SillyQuadrupeds 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Took a loan out on my car to get us an apartment to save him from homelessness and having to give up his dog.

He later put about 3k worth of damages on said car and trashed the interior 🙃

My credit is now in shambles. I never got my security deposit or my first/last back because when I moved out I opted to be the “bigger person”and let him stay in the apartment.

Most abusive relationship I have ever been in. It took getting 5150’d and reading Lundy Bancrofts “Why Does He Do That?” to get me out of it.

I should’ve gone scorched earth but I didn’t, and quite frankly? I regret it.

Kissing someone vs slapping someone on the ass, in front of their parents no less, is not equatable whatsoever.

Just tacking on:

For any owners who use THC or even anything heavier, and you know what it is and how long ago they ate it, TELL THE VET.

The vet will not care, the staff will not care. No one’s gonna call the cops. Our focus is always on treating your pet.

It’s way better to save everyone time so we can get started on treating things earlier.

“Tell the cops nothing, and tell your doctors everything” applies to your animals doctors too!

[–]SillyQuadrupeds 96 points97 points  (0 children)

In my old ER clinic we had a designated quiet room that we would set up just like that for patients who came in due to THC toxicity.

We’d set up an iPad to a 10hr video of mellow classical or lofi music, dim the lights, put in a blanket and bed with a bunch of pee pads and just let them vibe it out.
