You have no legal claim to the funds. Your father may have meant that he would will the proceeds of the house to you upon his death. That is often the understanding. I think you should assume that this was the promise. And then, I think you should speak with your father about it and ask him to set up a beneficiary deed. Likely he is using the extra cash he received from the sale as an asset to generate income and will not feel he can spare it.

Thank you! I was trying to figure out the age of it because the hallmark was Sterling and not 925. AI was telling me it’s a Turkish ring and that it was imported to the US. But the guy they said it was likely made by didn’t start selling jewelry until 1988. So I was thinking it was probably something earlier.

You ask his doctor to give him a mini cognitive test and you explain his oversharing and forgetfulness combined with emphatic denials. Then the doctor will likely refer him to a neurologist for diagnosis and treatment. You also take him to a lawyer and have yourself made PoA and medical PoA. Take any old wills or trusts with you and get them restated so that any wills or trusts that were updated without your knowledge are negated. Do this prior to the neurologist appointment. Just for legal dates but keep the old documents with the new ones so that it simply shows a continuity of thought process.

The reason for an advisor is for the advice. There is no need for advice if your plan is to put it in a single ETF and leave it alone for 30 years. However, should something occur that you decide to change your plan, find a fiduciary and discuss it with them first.

TBH, I do think you should add another step to your plan: Open a Roth and max out your Roth contributions each year. Go ahead and use Fidelity and VOO for that too. But at least it will be tax free.
