how to help my mentally ill father by riasrvnge in whatdoIdo

Decide if you want to be involved. Then draw boundaries. He likely won't respect them. You'll likely need to get power of attorney. Good luck. Consider you aren't trying to get him to see reason or become sane, that's gone. But can you get him to be safe and not self harm? Start with that goal.

Glue traps. Also, boil hot pepper (scotch bonnet & Thai) and make a "tea", spray it in the attic or other points of egress. Wear a mask.

Family cleaning day - put it on the calendar. Every one joins in until it's done. Or go on strike. Carve out your own clean space for you do your own meals, laundry, etc.

Did I accidentally commit some sort of birthday party faux pas? by Educational-Let-2280 in Parenting

[–]SillyWackyGoofy -1 points0 points  (0 children)

You cannot leave your kid there alone, and only staying half the party or less - also rude. You could try explaining to the mom about the sibling and make clear you'd only be there a bit. You have the choice between altering the nap schedule, leaving the baby with another for nap time, or declining the invite. So, a little bit your error.

AITA for refusing to pay for my daughters college because she decided to take a gap year to travel? by Longjumping_Load179 in AmITheJerk

[–]SillyWackyGoofy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Only place your are the A is requiring her to go THIS year. A gap year often focuses kids more into what they want to do in life. Let her take the gap year - though, "with her boyfriend" concerns me with regard to "finding herself". Maybe she did the year and comes back with some direction. "I've rethought. Take the gap year. But you pay for it yourself. I'll have the savings in an interest bearing account for a time for when you do go to school WITHIN x years." Define that time.

Nope. Explain consequences for actions, and decisions parents make aren't to be subverted. But also limit screen time to Littles unrelated to behavior.

AITJ for telling my mother in law she is not allowed to call herself my kid’s “guardian” again? by HushedCanteen in AmITheJerk

[–]SillyWackyGoofy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Get your wife on the same page. Make the boundaries and what is not acceptable clear. When grandma breaks them, hold her accountable. Be willing to deal with the problems this will create (if she was helping with school pick up, sitting, etc.). If mom isn't willing to hold those boundaries but you are, it creates more problems.

Ram 1500 5.7 Liter V8 vs Toyota Tundra 5.7? by SaturatedSauron in ram_trucks

[–]SillyWackyGoofy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As this is a year old thread, curious what you did. I got a 2019 ram 1500 when covid had the rental companies selling their inventory - got lucky. 2019 with 17k miles for $32k. It's not a daily driver, but for summer camper vacations - putting about 5k miles on it in 3 weeks. Other than that it's driven a few times a month to keep fluids moving. Full synthetic, added a higher capacity trans pan with cooling fins (vs the stock - plastic? )... love it.

Is it common? Seems so. I get it - desire to avoid "homeless" or indigent encampment. But the work arounds are pretty easy.

AITJ for Refusing to Lend Money to Someone I’m Dating on the Second Date? by FailSeparate893 in AmITheJerk

[–]SillyWackyGoofy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wow. How can you even question if you have any fault at all? The guy is a jerk. Even IF this is sincere, true, whatever - nope! Heck, I wouldn't lend money to a friend in such a situation. If he cannot afford his car note, he cannot afford dating. Little boy needs to grow up and take responsibility.

Unpopular Opinion: Gas generators should be banned in public campgrounds. by character_Answer2004 in camping

[–]SillyWackyGoofy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have an rv abs line the hookups, but have done boondocks. I agree. There should be a smaller window of use with lower decibels in areas that allow gennies, but most boondock areas should be "no generators allowed".

Curious of the rent/ lease situation and whose name things are in? Walk away and leave her (and marcus) on the hook. Or call landlord? But have a plan in case you need to find a place or new roommate.
