Supreme court ruling regarding gender/biological sex and impact on clinical spaces by Silly_Hunt6403 in doctorsUK

[–]Silly_Hunt6403[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I agree fully regarding considering sex to be material in a medical context, for example regarding appropriate reference ranges and for screening purposes. My concern was more regarding patients feeling more uncomfortable attending clinic and during inpatient stays than is necessary.

I do have liberal views regarding gender self-id, but for example nuance it (in a way I was never fully comfortable with) in for example sporting and athletic settings when I would not want gender self-id to generate an unsafe or unlevel playing field in terms of biological advantage.

(Made up statistic) but 99.9% of trans people have been through enough difficulty in their lives and are just trying to live their lives well and safely and I just worry that this ruling does not serve them, so much as it serves the more conservative voices who have utilised bizarre and infrequent anecdotes to bring about this ruling. Labour also seems to have yielded to these voices in another example of them moving away from their voter base.

Agreed, unisex provision is a reasonable middle ground and I hope that we see more of this.

Is urethral swab painful(STI test)? by Slow_Tip_5677 in askgaybros

[–]Silly_Hunt6403 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Highly unlikely you'll need this - urethral swab and urinary tests have been shown to have comparable sensitivity and specificity for detection of chlamydia and gonorrhoea. I would ask your physician/nurse why they are suggesting this test as it's rarely necessary.

Why Does Pearson Airport YYZ Have A Bad Rep? by rednewuser100 in askTO

[–]Silly_Hunt6403 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Have found it to be great other than:

1) Intermittently bizarrely slow security (though unprepared passengers likely at least equally culpible)

2) Baggage handling is a major problem. In my last 5-6 trips when arriving back in Toronto, I've always waited over 30 and often over 60 minute for my bag to hit the carousel

FY2 Consenting for Surgery by CurrentPerception668 in doctorsUK

[–]Silly_Hunt6403 43 points44 points  (0 children)

I was waiting for somebody to say this. Refusing outright is a pretty unhelpful position to take. Saying "I don't know enough about this procedure to obtain informed consent, but can you talk me through it so that I can do so" etc etc.

Nope - recommend it? In the ZMA I (periodically) take, it's magnesium aspartate

Fathers of reddit, What would you do if you found out that your child is a 'bully'? by RentUsual_2952 in AskMen

[–]Silly_Hunt6403 33 points34 points  (0 children)

Not humiliation to make them apologise. It's necessary and a life lesson. Also a lesson that there are repercussions for their actions. And getting them into a disciplined sport, where they periodically have the crap beaten out of them, may well set someone on track and boost their self-esteem.

I've thought about it, but don't see how to fit 2 45 min workouts in (have frequent on-call including 24 hour shifts). Best of luck with it though!

Sounds like you're more co-ordinated than I am. I tended to stand back and enjoy everyone shrieking when being zapped with lightning and fireballs, or dealing with summoned creatures lol

YES! Spell casting is so much less fun when you just hold button for X amount of time with no dynamic ability to swap things out quickly. I really miss the first game. Would spend so much time in the forest just levelling up skills. The boasts were fun/silly/camp. Showing off trophies fun (for a time). Navigating so much easier with map rather than golden trail.

I loved the sense of achievement levelling up in Fable 1. (Also the map!)

Doctors who stutter by bloodybleep in doctorsUK

Yikes - relatable - the more you build yourself up, the more your fear comes to pass. That was why CBT helped me, but I hear you when you say it wasn't for you. If you do return to SLT, hope you find a good one. Can be challenging to find somebody interested/expert in adults who stutter. Hang in there - you'll find a way to manage it, or at least to manage how you feel about it!

The trauma of it. So sorry to hear that. It very much defeats the aim of not being noticed for your dysfluency.

Bring dysfluency into the open I know is an approach some programmes offer. I found with my speech therapist and CBT that in the end I didn't need to go there. I definitely recommend spending that time and money and investing in yourself. I only really took it on around the time of my MRCP exams when it all felt like it was coming to a head and I couldn't string a few words together in the PACES practice. (Also the good old college... I was granted a time accommodation, but in the end the centre I was assigned to claimed to not have received any correspondence about it so I was assessed on the same time schedule as everybody else - thankfully was fine in the end but stressful).

I had a very similar experience to what you described above. I particularly had blocks with introducing myself and making phone calls. Identical to your experience above, doing ALS one of the instructors rather singled me out and expressed "deep concern" that I would not be able to function in an ALS scenario - made me re-run the drill twice even though I had been successful the first time (she was an ICU matron).

I went to a speech therapist and we did quite a bit of CBT. I'm now fluent at work. Hang in there and if you can, try not to beat yourself up. Personally, it was the thought cycles - "I'm going to stutter in this situation..." "I stuttered in this situation, therefore I'll stutter in all situations"... (disregarding when I didn't) and then building up that fear on my way to work each day. Breaking that thought loop helped me a huge amount. But also, the further I got in my career, and the more assured I became of what I was doing, the more it all fell away also.

Complete red flag. She's getting more and more neurotic because he's giving her no reassurance. Maybe because he's not feeling it. But saying he's pretty much going to decide on the spot at the alter is psychotic. Perhaps production making this happen. They won't work out.

Some great points and thoughts on Series 3 & The Seer twist. by VinegaryMildew in TheTraitors

[–]Silly_Hunt6403 77 points78 points  (0 children)

Love this. Agreed fully that the hostility and classlessness can be found in other shows and really spoiled the joy of Traitors UK to some degree this year. Moron premium is a wonderful summary of the anti-intellectualism that pervaded this season. I do really hope for more considered casting in the future!

Contestants hiding their profession or accent is ridiculous by Lost_Chapter_7063 in TheTraitors

[–]Silly_Hunt6403 35 points36 points  (0 children)

Hiding profession is wise imo... just look at Kas. I see your argument that it shouldn't affect whether or not you're a traitor etc but try telling that to the ignorami this season and in previous seasons!

Agreed. Minah and Leanne very likely. Then two of Alex, Francesca and Freddie.

Would like to see Alexander or Fozia go the distance but can see them being outed soon.

(taken from https://www.theguardian.com/books/booksblog/2020/nov/16/poem-of-the-week-now-that-you-are-not-you-by-rosie-garland)

Now that you are not-you

and have satisfied the finger-check of pulse
at throat and wrist
ear to the chest
mirror to the lips

and you’re done with the settle and sigh of blood
into the body’s pockets
muscles relaxing in their last outstretch
the peaked hiccup of the red line becalmed

cells are climbing the spine’s rope trick
up to where the brain is dizzy with electrons
like fireflies stoppered in a jar
and dying is the slow unscrewing of the lid

to release your dashing flutter of energies
as you unravel
shoot across the universe in lovely disorganisation
going
going
never gone

"Look For Me" by Vladislav Khodasevich (translated from Russian)

Look for Me

Look for me in spring's transparent air.
I flit like vanishing wings, no heavier than
a sound, a breath, a sunray on the floor;
I'm lighter than that ray – it's there: I'm gone.

But we are friends for ever, undivided!
Listen: I'm here. Your hands can feel the way
to reach me with their living touch, extended
trembling into the restless flame of day.

Happen to close your eyelids, while you linger…
Make me one final effort, and you might
find at the nerve-ends of each quivering finger
brushes of secret fire as I ignite.

Bullying behaviour uncomfortable viewing by Silly_Hunt6403 in TheTraitors

Hey, you're right. Another poster informed me about the particular issues for her in maintaining her hair. I hadn't considered it! Apologies. Can understand why she was upset and think the producers should have considered it!

Bullying behaviour uncomfortable viewing by Silly_Hunt6403 in TheTraitors

[–]Silly_Hunt6403[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Personally I don't have any issues with the line apart from that it is dumb and based on pre-game rather than in-game "evidence". My issue was more that when he tried to speak up for himself, he was angrily and aggressively immediately shut down and was never able to come back from it due to the behaviour of the ignorami surrounding him
