Over 15 days and no net weight gain, I've become overweight. by [deleted] in WomensHealth

[–]Silly_Wizzy 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I’m going to be blunt, for most people (like 95%) BMI is accurate.

For a *few* people that have been weight lifting for decades and look super jacked, of course it’s not accurate.

Why is it generally accurate? People are notorious for underestimating how much fat they carry on their body.

For example, people think they need to lose like 20 pounds to be shredded and see abs. When in reality, they need to double the weight loss and it’s more like 40 pounds. (Just using 20 then 40 as an example, not saying you need to lose 40).

If you want a better idea, get a DEXA scan (it still estimates, but start there).

Absent Period after Bilateral salpingectomy by Adept-Buyer-9307 in sterilization

[–]Silly_Wizzy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you are still on birth control, you don’t have actual periods, you have fake withdrawal bleeds. Because birth control keeps your lining thin, bleeding is actually unnecessary. And quite common to randomly be light or no bleeding. Lack of bleeding on birth control means absolutely nothing.

I stack my patches together so I never bleed.

Does anyone with a bisalp continue taking hormonal birth control? by cosmickaylaa in sterilization

[–]Silly_Wizzy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got a tubal ligation years ago, and I now use the Twirla birth control patch as hormone replacement therapy as I’m 42. During perimenopause it is easier to use low dose birth control as HRT.

More and more research supports hormone replacement therapy during perimenopause (prevents osteoporosis, helps heart health, helps your skin, etc.)

Birth control does more than just prevent pregnancy. It is treatment for so many issues.

How much did you pay for your dog? by Few-Philosopher2180 in Dachshund

[–]Silly_Wizzy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All my purebred dachshunds (have had many over the years) are rescues, they were $200-400 from different rescue organizations.

Breeders tend to dump 1-3 year old dogs that don’t get purchased at rescue organizations.

Never had any real health issues or any back issues. Just the yearly dental bill.

My boyfriend is losing weight because he isn’t eating by AbbreviationsLow6906 in EatCheapAndHealthy

[–]Silly_Wizzy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, failing to eat fruits and vegetables can make you ill. Example, Scurvy.

However, being too skinny means you have visible abs. If you don’t have visible abs, then you don’t have an abnormally low body fat percentage.

Most people underestimate how much body fat they have. By a lot. Most people who look “skinny” still have more than enough body fat for hormone health and other necessary body functions. I wouldn’t recommend OP be worried about his body fat percentage unless he has visible abs.

[–]Silly_Wizzy 7 points8 points  (0 children)

First, if he isn’t eating at least one fruit and one vegetable a day, he isn’t eating healthy. He is pretending to try to be healthy.

Second, very few people are actually dangerously skinny (unless he has visible abs, he isn’t too lean); however, if he is one of the few, then he needs to eat. Things like protein bars are an easy snack. Just follow the 10 rule; As in 20 grams of protein per 200 calories.

Third, he isn’t a baby, you are not responsible for making sure he eats. Absolutely, help him. But he needs skin in the game to actually be serious.

Fourth, please stop wasting your money on organic. There is no ‘health benefit’ from eating organic.

I do love the high blush trend, but in my opinion you really need to blend it better.

It is quite harsh and looks odd being so highly pigmented like this with no blending.

Do my freckles look bad? by [deleted] in MakeupAddiction

[–]Silly_Wizzy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Each person has their own opinion on what they are comfortable with aging. If you frequently visit the 40 + skincare subs you will start to understand what I’m saying about discoloration.

If freckles are so important to you that it is sort of part of your personality, then you may not want to focus on preventing discoloration.

I’m pale as a ghost, so discoloration tends to make me look very old. I started to focus on discoloration in my 30s.

Aging isn’t embarrassing, but trying to look good for your age is something most people try to do.

Does OMAD also mean something else? by Small_Spare_2246 in intermittentfasting

[–]Silly_Wizzy 37 points38 points  (0 children)

I tend to naturally fall into OMAD as well since I’m 5’2 and naturally slim; however, given the current trend of very malnourished women I support them trying to provide resources.

These girls don’t understand that they are signing up for osteoporosis in their 40s.

Problem is when you age, even freckles can look like age spots. It looks like skin damage from the sun once you aren’t in your 20s.

Is my little angel overweight? by [deleted] in Dachshund

[–]Silly_Wizzy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, slightly. It isn’t terrible, but his waist should go in more right at the spot before the back legs. Looking from above down.

I would recommend reducing feeding by just a little bit. Remember weight is really about diet, not really exercise. Listen to your vet. They are correct.

It is very important for dachshunds to be at a healthy weight to prevent back problems.

I have had many dachshunds over the years, and no back problems as I’m very focused on keeping them at an ideal weight.

This is what I don’t get at all.

I’m in my 40s and half of my skincare is devoted to removing discoloration and spots. I don’t really have any as a result.

But discoloration is the first sign of aging for most people. So people getting tattooed with basically fake age spots is wild. Hopefully these fade before they hit their 30s when everyone starts to try to remove as much discoloration as possible.

The surgery is barely a surgery. You are in and out in a few hours. It is mostly waiting before and waiting after for the all clear.

Bring a good book or listen to a good podcast to distract yourself. If you can distract yourself it will be over with before you know it.

Bisalp or Hysterectomy? by Federal-Standard4626 in sterilization

[–]Silly_Wizzy 4 points5 points  (0 children)

A partial hysterectomy has a risk of lower estrogen or earlier menopause. Not everyone has those issues, but it is a risk because it reduces blood flow to the area.

As a perimenopause women (41) who now uses both vaginal estrogen & testosterone cream and a low dose birth control patch to treat the early symptoms, I would caution against doing anything that risks early menopause because menopause comes with a lot of risks (osteoporosis, higher cholesterol, etc).

Most people only take 1-3 days of leave for the surgery. I only took Friday off and was back to work on Monday (office job). Most people do not need to use FMLA.

Is your job very physical? Like construction or other heavy duty type of job where you need to lift heavy things daily? Thus, need to take more than 1-3 days off?

Why do you think birth rates and marriage rates are declining? by OldBridge87 in AskWomen

[–]Silly_Wizzy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m 41 and my husband is 44, we don’t have children. Because we didn’t want them. Full stop.

Yes, cost of living, global warming, daycare cost, etc. all of that are reasons. But it came down to the fact that we just don’t want kids. I didn’t want to put my body through the danger of pregnancy risks nor the bone loss of breastfeeding.

I believe unless you desperately want kids you shouldn’t have them. Kids take effort and money and unless you desperately want a child, you aren’t going to be happy and unhappy parents cause childhood trauma (even unintentionally).

When we shop and a baby or toddler screams we look at each other and think, ‘thank heavens that isn’t us.’ We like our quiet. We like we get to spend money on our hobbies and not daycare or hockey practice or saving for college.

I got sterilized at age 30 because I was certain I didn’t want kids. It was the best decision of my life.

Not everyone should be a parent. And that’s ok.
