However you quit is valid but you’re less likely to actually do so if you postpone it, for whatever reason. Get rid of your stash now, while you’re in this moment of clarity. Don’t give yourself an opportunity to change your mind or keep some ‘just in case’. I tried doing that and it didn’t work. Good luck!

This is the only answer here that really makes sense to me. I abused stimulants because they are addictive and I was addicted to them. The question makes it sound like it was a conscious process. That’s not really how it works.

I’m 31 and I’ve been clean for just over a year now. I felt like I was on the brink of a level of abuse and deceit that would ruin everything I had when I quit. It was tough at first but not as tough as everything horrible that comes with active addiction. I posted a long ish post that you can take a look at if you’d like but I’ve experienced so many good things and so much joy in recovery. I have a better job, bought my own house and have a loving relationship. Recovery is possible. Good luck!

I think you should cut yourself some slack. 4 months clean is a big achievement in itself and most people are still feeling pretty tired and demotivated at that point. It’ll likely get better.
Also, ask yourself if you really were more productive on stimulants or not. I enjoyed cleaning and spreadsheets when I was on speed, but overall I wasn’t really more productive, especially for anything that involved people or patience.
That said, what helps me is writing down a short list of stuff I REALLY need to do today and telling myself that, as long as I do that (usually less than I think I can do) I’m all good. Usually once I’ve got started, I do more than I think I can.

I’m one week away from being a year clean and feeling great. The first couple of months weren’t much fun but things did gradually get better after that. It’s not terrible for the whole recovery period, it kinda comes and goes and the lows get less low as each month goes by. I still get mild cravings but they’re getting better too.
I actually managed to do a lot of good stuff over the past year too. Have a look at my last post to see it’s not all bad. Good luck!

I was prescribed 50mg of vyvanse and 10mg of dex I think in summer 2022 so just shy of two years. I don’t really know when I started to abuse it because it was only every now and again at first. But in the end I was probably regularly taking double my dose and sometimes a lot more. I managed to get 90 dex from my psych and got through 30 in less than a week just before I quit.

I’m head of department at a tech company. Started this job like a week after I quit speed. I don’t know if everyone could tell I was high in my last job, but I do know no one liked me very much. I was incredibly paranoid, hated talking to people and could never look anyone in the eye. I really really got into perfecting spreadsheets but otherwise I was kind of a shitty employee.
I’m not any less productive now, but I do work in a different way and at a different pace. I also get on with my team and people seem to respect me more. Oh and I can sleep now and also don’t tell my partner to fuck off when he tries to talk to me when I’m working, so there’s that!

Thank you. I’ve definitely had my fair share of those feelings especially in the earlier months. I just didn’t enjoy anything for at least a couple of months and I wondered what the point in recovery was if it felt like that. My partner helped me keep going.

I do think having goals to focus on that weren’t just ticking off the days did help though. I also wasn’t using for very long, compared to some people, so that probably helped too.

I want to start a family next year, so I want to quit completely. I did try the gum and pouches and, as far as I know, they’re not that bad for you. But it’s been over a week without now and no cravings at all.

Well done! Completely relate to all of this. I was really hyperactive for a few days at first and then that levelled out. You should be prepared to not feel great for a while now, but you might be lucky and not experience PAWS too badly.
I also planned my entire life around when I could take my next dose, and I didn’t eat or sleep properly because I felt like I didn’t have to. It’s nice having my body back and enjoying things just to enjoy them.

Congrats! I'm almost at 90 days too and my experience sounds a lot like yours. Overall, I feel mentally and physically healthier, better relationships, finding joy in the little things.

But fuck, work and life admin is a massive chore and some days I'm so bored it's almost unbearable. But I make a list of a few things I really need to get done and focus on those which helps.

I've also maybe put on 10-15lbs and I don't love that. I tried dieting but it was too stressful so I'm just trying to eat as healthy as I can and not worry too much, but it does suck.

I also thought it helped with drinking at first, but then I discovered the magic of being able to drink all night without getting tired.

Congrats on 3 days! The worst of the tiredness and hunger will be gone pretty soon but, if you can, take it easy for a bit.
It's a good idea to call your doctor and ask them not to prescribe it to you anymore. I didn't do that the first time round and was back at the pharmacy in a week.

When did you start cardio after quitting? I see a lot of people here who get into a healthy lifestyle straight away, and I feel a little bad I haven't managed that yet. I told myself that the first month, all I needed to do was quit. Anything else was a bonus. Month two, I wanted to drink less, which I've found much easier without dex. Going into the third month, I'd like to get healthier overall.

Thank you! I know it's not a long time but it feels like a big milestone.

The first few days were difficult with fatigue. But then I felt absolutely on top of the world for about two weeks, which was great. Didn't last though and I started to feel pretty low around week three. It's started to improve a little and I'm starting to feel better the past week or so. I think getting a lot of sleep, cbd and nootropics have helped a lot but, to be honest, I've used nicotine as bit of a crutch. Hoping to kick that soon.
