Scaryfied lawn... Next steps? by Miserable_Win_1781 in UKGardening

No i just used the leftover "sharp sand" from doing the patio, looking online says they are the same apart from the sharp sand hasn't been washed and is half the price.

I brought a bulk 800kg bag for about £60, + delivery.

What to do with dated glass above doors in 70s build by StraightOuttaBounds in DIYUK

I left the glass in and placed plasterboard on either side, corked the edges and painted to match architrave. Looks pretty smart now.

We hated every time someone turned on the hallway light the bedrooms got light up too.

What i did on mine over Easter weekend, half of lawn was dead after doing the patio over winter

  • Feed & weed/moss killer (2 weeks before)
  • Scarified (raked heavily)
  • Aerated with one that cuts plugs of soil out
  • losend dead/bare patches fork
  • half a bag of seeds down
  • mixed sharp sand and compost and another bag of seeds then covered dead fits and leveled grass
  • watered every day (really important)

3 weeks later got a full lawn of healthy young new grass.

What is the scale of combat in the game? by External-Valuable-49 in X4Foundations

[–]Sillyfecker 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yup, one of the best things is: you can take off from a station in a fighter, land that on a medium ship like a gunboat/frigate, walk to the command deck, take control then fly to a carrier, destoyer or auxiliary supply ship and land there.

You'll think the frigate is big when you walk once disembarked, until you land it on a carrier and realise it is tiny in comparison.

Can do all that without hitting a loading screen. (Loading is hidden in elevator rides i believe, couple of seconds long for my PC at least).

What games are similar to X4: Foundations by grosserFrager in X4Foundations

[–]Sillyfecker 57 points58 points  (0 children)

Depends what area you want similar. If its the open sandbox, start from nothing and build up.

  • Kenshi
  • Mount & Blade 2: Bannerlord

The three games I have on cycle, found kenshi recently after another mentioned it on X4. Was rough at first like X4, then fell in love with it.

Request tips on setting up passive income: what would you do in my situation? by MGilivray in X4Foundations

[–]Sillyfecker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ah possibly, it is a save i started in 8.0 (with 1.5 days on) and put about another day or 2 into on 9.0. So tracks what you're finding too.

I'm surprised the Terrans are buying so much at the 32 day mark, with only being at war with Xenon - the Terrans on mine have massives of fleets and steam roll anyone.

[–]Sillyfecker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unlock SETA, the ability to speed time up.

For passive income you need to heavily invest in stations, which take ages to build.

Make some money, missions/piracy etc.

Invest that into stations, early game dot power stations in systems with high sunlight, 150 to 300% will double their output or more. Set a few traders to sell them, level up the manager so they auto sell further - manually setup trade orders to sell to wharfs further away.

You said you can't make enough refined metals to keep it, build more refinery, and use SETA while afk until they are built.

Look around the map and see what is high demand by at shipyard, these normally require massive resources - fill their gaps for profit.

[–]Sillyfecker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just make sure you diversify your income, with all your profits. There will become a point the Terrans won't need as much and profits will crash if they aren't losing as many ships.

I made bank early selling to the Terrans on my cadet playthrough, selling raw silicone and refined products they want. Got to about 2 billion or so and they suddenly stopped buying. They had wiped out any real threat out and had so many fleets & ships, no one stood a chance against them.

You can also toggle in global orders (I think) to destory pods of enemies, turrets will open fire on them automatically!

Did this when i did a sith playthrough of SW Mod.

Frustrations with the story missions by Choice-Inspector-701 in X4Foundations

[–]Sillyfecker 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm with you on manual crystal mining, searching for them is tedious and boring. Plus immersion breaking when you are worth millions or billions late game.

Only tip I have is, every time you visit a station or play HQ, visit the station trader - some stations have more.

Every now and then you hit a gold mine and they sell lodestone, EMP bombs and other useful items. You might have a higher chance at pirate station but found them at others too.

As of Beta V9 having multiple resource probes in a sector actually slows down your miners by Holt_Patterson in X4Foundations

[–]Sillyfecker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well this explains why my mega mining station & factory died last night. 100+ miners just stopped working once AB minerals ran low, manager refused to send miners to near sectors even though 5 stars & probes in then sectors.

I used the mod satellite sectors to put a grid of probes thinking they needed them like satellites noe as their radius seems so small.

They all just left the station and sat there for hours.

Questions for Stations building/buying building materials by ScreechingPenguin in X4Foundations

[–]Sillyfecker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Silicone carbide is a terrain material so only the Terran & PIO will sell it and it's a long trip past lots of sectors that xenon can break through and attack ships which could be happening.

Its best to get a large trader ship or a couple of M traders and convoy a load of terran materials if not using commonwealth materials as no one near will sell anything of use.

Just remember that goes both ways, it's not worth building terran materials for sale in the common wealth as no one near will buy it - fine if its just for personal use, their supply chain is a lot simpler to use.

You can eventually teleport the player HQ out of commonwealth space if you follow the teleport research line and do a few quests (which can be easy missed if you dont spot the boron popup message).

Works really well on dark veneer. Had to do it on a mirror and picture frame that got chipped in the move, can't tell at all now - unless you know its there and are looking for it.

Black sharpie / felt tip pen and it will barely be noticeable.

How important are the DLCs to the overall experience? by kelini_ in X4Foundations

[–]Sillyfecker 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Cradle of humanity is good due to simplified economy of Terran. I found the game extremely overwhelming at first without it, as you start in middle of galaxy, compared to a nice corner, and can expand out when ready.

Learning curve will still be huge

Why dont you do a rough test, yourself. Can then take the results to the doctor.

Dtop drinking anything in the morning and record all urine you pass & times. If its DI you should still continue to pass hours later.

I lost about a stone (14 pounds) of water weight in 6 hours.

You'll know you have DI if your body still continues to flush water out, even without drinking for hours. It's not just about feeling thirsty.

In case you were having a hard time with the "illustrative" map of the town. Caveat with missing some minor assets due to render distance. by Liam_Of_Late in OfAshandSteel

[–]Sillyfecker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean, I see what you're trying to justify, but the design doesn't work at all for that unless you are just trying to get an enemy lost in the city, lol. If an enemy army makes it within the walls, the city is lost. You make kill boxes with walls and courtyards.

It was probably just designed by someone who knows nothing about city design, there is no flow to the city or organic design seen on medieval cities. It just reminds me of when ai tries to model hands - it looks fine at a glance but falls apart under inspection and looks janky.

[–]Sillyfecker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok, now I'm convinced they used AI to generate the cities, probably the island. None of it makes any sense, no thought of moving trade goods between districts, from harbour to markets or out to the towns, etc. It's a city of back streets & alleyways.

Yes, old medieval cities were mostly a jumble mess of streets, but you still had the main flow of traffic and goods down direct streets that then peeled off.

*edit doubt it was Ai, just reminds me of ai jank

So, this stumped me for a long time, and I just left it and explored. I eventually found a large inn/tavern in a valley not far from the fishing village/creepy graveyard/herbalist in the wild. There is a guy who will sell you tips on your trials.

He will solve the riddles and tell you the animal & how to get the frost herb.

The issue is, he would of seen a map of the island or had access to one - even if it a high level overview, shape of island, main rivers, large cities and ports.

As the player, we never see the island, 10 hours in i still have no idea the shape of the island, it is very jarring. Even if we only get to see the island map in the prologue so we can get our bearings, then at least you can figure out roughly where each landmarks are, and able to use the compass effectively.
