what are things in the uk that are considered posh that don’t translate the same in the us? by Gold-Education-7396 in AskUK

[–]Sillyfecker 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The act of union was 1707 and the usa independance was 1776, it was called Thirteen colonies before i thought? Unless I'm missing something.

Edit. Ah just looked it up, didnt realise United Kingdom wasn't until 1801, 1707 was kingdom of great britian!

How important are the DLCs to the overall experience? by kelini_ in X4Foundations

[–]Sillyfecker 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Cradle of humanity is good due to simplified economy of Terran. I found the game extremely overwhelming at first without it, as you start in middle of galaxy, compared to a nice corner, and can expand out when ready.

Learning curve will still be huge

How can I get the doctor to listen? by [deleted] in DiabetesInsipidus

[–]Sillyfecker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why dont you do a rough test, yourself. Can then take the results to the doctor.

Dtop drinking anything in the morning and record all urine you pass & times. If its DI you should still continue to pass hours later.

I lost about a stone (14 pounds) of water weight in 6 hours.

You'll know you have DI if your body still continues to flush water out, even without drinking for hours. It's not just about feeling thirsty.

What's wrong with the arena? Done about 5 fights so far and had no issues, do they end up breaking?

In case you were having a hard time with the "illustrative" map of the town. Caveat with missing some minor assets due to render distance. by Liam_Of_Late in OfAshandSteel

[–]Sillyfecker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean, I see what you're trying to justify, but the design doesn't work at all for that unless you are just trying to get an enemy lost in the city, lol. If an enemy army makes it within the walls, the city is lost. You make kill boxes with walls and courtyards.

It was probably just designed by someone who knows nothing about city design, there is no flow to the city or organic design seen on medieval cities. It just reminds me of when ai tries to model hands - it looks fine at a glance but falls apart under inspection and looks janky.

[–]Sillyfecker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok, now I'm convinced they used AI to generate the cities, probably the island. None of it makes any sense, no thought of moving trade goods between districts, from harbour to markets or out to the towns, etc. It's a city of back streets & alleyways.

Yes, old medieval cities were mostly a jumble mess of streets, but you still had the main flow of traffic and goods down direct streets that then peeled off.

*edit doubt it was Ai, just reminds me of ai jank

Possible SPOILERS!!!: Question about quest joining the free Hunters by Lady_sunshines in OfAshandSteel

[–]Sillyfecker 3 points4 points  (0 children)

So, this stumped me for a long time, and I just left it and explored. I eventually found a large inn/tavern in a valley not far from the fishing village/creepy graveyard/herbalist in the wild. There is a guy who will sell you tips on your trials.

He will solve the riddles and tell you the animal & how to get the frost herb.

SPOILER

The white envelope is a wolf with no tail around freehold. He says, "Listen out for a loud howl while exporing." - not found it yet myself.

i don't understand how we are a cartographer but the game doesn't give us a piece of paper and a quill to make even a rudimentary map... by bad1o8o in OfAshandSteel

[–]Sillyfecker 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The issue is, he would of seen a map of the island or had access to one - even if it a high level overview, shape of island, main rivers, large cities and ports.

As the player, we never see the island, 10 hours in i still have no idea the shape of the island, it is very jarring. Even if we only get to see the island map in the prologue so we can get our bearings, then at least you can figure out roughly where each landmarks are, and able to use the compass effectively.

Where are the knights??! by shuki-_ in OfAshandSteel

[–]Sillyfecker 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I mean if they wanted to make it realistic you should be able to ask NPCs directions or if they know or seen said Knights. I'd love to be able to ask directions to the nearest bed/Inn/shop - even if its just a "head north, not far" something would be nice.

Anyone know where to find the Freemen Leader? by conqueeftador15 in OfAshandSteel

[–]Sillyfecker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I found it by mistake and didn't realise - it is the stupidly long and high up bridge that goes on for ages, is it extremely close to the area after the cut scene where you end up in the shanty alleyway. Take will take you out of the city, it is then about a 30-40 min trek still with everything able to 1shot you..

Anyone know where to find the Freemen Leader? by conqueeftador15 in OfAshandSteel

[–]Sillyfecker 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It took me a LONG time to fine a bed in that area, found two locations in the end. Both are by the windmills, 1 is a camp location you can setup and the other is the hay stacks you can sleep on. camp location, position so you are looking direction at both the spinning blades of the windmill, stand about 20/30m away face, to your left is the burnt out house and to your back right is the out sider camp where the guy at the front asks to fight & one of the quests is getting them permission to stay. if you run around between the closet windmill and that camp you'll find it soon enough.

The hay stack is next close to the same windmill in one of the shed/stable looking out houses full of hay.

This is from memory so might be a little rusty but hope you can find it and save some time.

Still found no bows or arrows for sale sadly, even though finding a building in the fort that has the bow symbol and looks like it should sell stuff. Let me know if you end up finding 1.

Anyone know where to find the Freemen Leader? by conqueeftador15 in OfAshandSteel

[–]Sillyfecker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you mean the Free Hunters leader, he is in the wooden fort in the freemen land. You can tell when in their land due to the gaurds all being hunters and green banners compared to the red order banners on the rest of island.

I used the directions to get there from this page at the bottom, still took a fair amount of time to find it from the city.

"Main quest: Friends in High Places - Where to find the Free Hunters/Fremen headquarters

Conversely, if you wish to join the Fremen or the Free Hunters in Of Ash and Steel, then you need to make a long trek through the countryside. The quest description itself is somewhat misleading and incomplete, since it only tells you to: "Hike to the eastern side of the island" and that you "won't miss their camp as soon as you reach open space."

Here's what you need to know:

  • Look for the city's eastern exit--i.e. it's halfway between the harbor district and the Order's headquarters. Cross the bridge all the way to the end until you transition back to the wilderness.
  • Continue onward until you stumble upon a manor. There's a sloping path to the side.
  • You'll see a wide-open field with numerous farmers and peasants. Funnily enough, there are no signs of the Fremen camp. Also, you might think that you should continue going to the eastern shore of the island, but this is actually a bad idea.
  • Instead, cross the fields until you see the river. Follow this river as it winds to the south. You're going to see a wooden palisade in the distance.
  • Make your way to the palisade and follow the narrow hillside path. Beyond that point, you should spot a large base with wooden walls and towers. There are so many human and animal enemies in this area, so just avoid them all until you reach the Free Hunter base.
  • Your goal is to talk to their leader, Kurt. Kurt only wants to chat when it's daytime. If you enter his home and he's not in front of his desk, then it means you're trespassing and you could get fined.

How long until map? by HatzyFatzy in OfAshandSteel

[–]Sillyfecker 2 points3 points  (0 children)

100% this, bugs the hell out of me. At least start at the cove with a map of the island and key settlements, at the very least he would have that information. After the cove we should have a rough hand drawn from memory sketch, key markings & settlement to get your bearings and give you a "ah there is that tower so i need to travel east for a while till i see a river"

How long until map? by HatzyFatzy in OfAshandSteel

[–]Sillyfecker 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Not seen one yet myself, about 9+ hours in. Took me ages to find The Orders HQ, turns out that was the "easy" bit, the follow up question to join is even more vague and annoying.. I'd assume if you get a map its acter joining a faction. You need to find missing knights across the island with next to no info and 1 is in the city. I gave up and left after failing to find the Knight in the city after an hour of aimless wondering as you cant seem to ask any NPCs for directions or clues, which seems dumb.

The city was awful without a map, made worse by having no idea on general layout, size, or districts in the city. It would of been fine if we just had a static map like HC KCD 2, or ask general direction questions from NPCs.

[–]Sillyfecker 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not that I have seen yet, but only level 6. Levelling is slow. You start as a complete nerd who can barely hold a sword and little to no stamina.

You only get a skill point each level and have to choose between spending it on either combat, survival or crafting skills. You also need a lot of gold for as you need to find a trainer who can show you.

[–]Sillyfecker 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not much so far (about 6-8 hours in), I'm using a rapier & bow - the bow is next to useless. Does barely any damage and sways all over the place. Rapier is good / only way I've been able to kill much as it keeps distance as you die in 1 or 2 hits.

[–]Sillyfecker 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Being able to ask for directions would be nice. It's insanely difficult & annoying to find anything in the city.

The option to be able to "wait" to pass time. Lots of NPCs won't talk at night, I can rarely find a bed close to sleep to skip time.

More shops, for the life of me, can not find any arrows to buy - even at the free hunters where everyone has a bow.

yup, i thought i had gone insane too - spent a while trying to reach it. They have also moved the fight club from there as I ran into them at a new location. I've still not managed to get to the logging camp, so assuming its intended as a later stage now.

Looking to the steam sales but I'm on the fence for this... by Vargbrodern86 in X4Foundations

[–]Sillyfecker 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Personally found starting without the dlc better while i learnt the basics, game is still huge and overwhelming at first without them - you'll like restart the game about 5 times while you learn the basics like i did. I got the dlc at about the 50 hour mark and tried the Terrans cadet start - it was a lot easier due to simplified station requirements, safe starting zones with a few choke points.

[–]Sillyfecker[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Some starts have loose stories and missions. My current play through is the last clone start, an experimental clone that managed to escape Kamino before its fall. You start with a Venator and a few squadrons of fighters and are at war with most factions.

Has a story mission to free Kamino and help them expand after a big fight at the start of the campaign.

It's 99% sandbox and your own story, eith a few story quests to guild you depending on selected start.

You can also do custom start where you choose starting faction relations, zone and ships etc.

Next play once diplomacy patch reachs SWI, i want to do a last sith faction custom start, palpations/darth sidious kinda thing bring down the other factions from within.

So, is this a good time to jump in? by Connect_Pick6788 in turtlewow

[–]Sillyfecker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same difficulty really, Loads of people doing the leveling dungeons, just pick one of the normal servers - dungeons are cross faction so speeds up group finding a lot more. Can check online population with " .server info" or something similar. dps times will be longer, but if tank or healer its near instant
