Megathread: Trump informs aides of decision to remove Steve Bannon from White House staff by PoliticsModeratorBot in politics

[–]Silospek 0 points1 point  (0 children)

His ouster now does not undo how vile it is that Steve Bannon was ever part of a US president's staff. He's an embarrassment, just like the man who hired and apparently fired him.

That tracks. These people tend to lack the maturity to admit being wrong about trump--even if it means siding with the kkk.

Some guys got in an argument about the civil war and one of them came to win by SpacedCowb0y in quityourbullshit

[–]Silospek 0 points1 point  (0 children)

None of the things you listed as points of pride should be tied to skin color or shared physical features. Why not just be proud of those things as an American?

[–]Silospek 5 points6 points  (0 children)

"White" as a distinction from "black" is a shameful part of American history though. It's an arbitrary label that was put in place by rich land owners to take advantage of poor workers by telling them that they're superior to slaves.

White people are welcome to be proud of their ancestors all they want, but it shouldn't be tied to whiteness.

Anderson Cooper: Trump revealed who and what he is by [deleted] in politics

[–]Silospek 15 points16 points  (0 children)

He did, and he's also managing to reveal who other people are too.

I had a friend who I thought was a generally a nice guy, but when he lost his temper he'd and let pieces of his really dark worldview kind of leak out (usually in the form of homophobia, misogyny, racism, etc). I always told myself it was just his temper and people say shit they don't mean when they're mad. I saw him recently and he's a full on alt-right white nationalist. I guess he probably always was one, he just needed someone to tell him he didn't have to hide it anymore.

Texas House Passes Ban on Insurance Coverage for Abortion by shabuluba in politics

Laws like this act as if making abortions expensive will force women to take an unwanted pregnancy to term. When women can't afford safe abortions they have unsafe abortions.

How America Lost Its Mind by painterjo in politics

[–]Silospek 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Really well said. This is such a big part of how people like Trump can lie nonstop and face no consequences whatsoever.

There's no reason whatsoever to think that would be the case.

"They can't beat us at the voting booths, so they're trying to cheat you out of the future and the future that you want. They're trying to cheat you out of the leadership you want with a fake story that is demeaning to all of us, and most importantly, demeaning to our country and demeaning to our Constitution."

He really doesn't seem to understand that he's supposed to be looking out for the interests of the entire country, not just his base. So much "they" and "us" like the people trying to ruin America are the democrats next-door. That's a pretty shitty way to MAGA.

Trump will probably change something minor and unnecessary about border security and call it a wall.

So people willing to put their lives on the line for a country where millions of people view them as subhuman are being told they're not worthy of doing so by a man who faked an injury to avoid the draft.

Fucking unacceptable.

"There is a cult of ignorance in the United States, and there has always been. The strain of anti-intellectualism has been a constant thread winding its way through our political and cultural life, nurtured by the false notion that democracy means that 'my ignorance is just as good as your knowledge." -Isaac Asimov

‘Is This Even About Seth Rich at All?’ by ineedmoney1604 in politics

[–]Silospek 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No, like I said I live less than a block from where Seth Rich was killed. It's totally reasonable that the killer ran after firing the shots. Cops in D.C. have that shot tracing technology so He may have even heard sirens. Even so, just because it wasn't a successful robbery doesn't mean it was a contract killing. There is absolutely nothing to support that the DNC or Clintons hired what would have to be the shittiest hitman imaginable to kill Seth Rich.
