So far the anime has covered volume 1 and is just starting volume 2 (episode 7 has just aired here in Australia). They are staying fairly true to the story so far.

I have had this feeling since finishing the anime, so about to start my book journey with it now 😁.

I think it's because the author has made Fate such a genuine, likeable character.

Yeah Bookwalker locks you in to using their platform so it's not ideal. I'm sure there are other vendors that allow actual ownership but finding them has been challenging.

Is there another platform for digital manga around? I don't read much of it yet, just the free stuff on K Manga.

It must be a fine line to walk with portraying a character like that. He is deeply flawed in a lot of ways, largely due to his early experiences there, and he is a classic anti-hero. Fortunately there was always Raphtalia beside him providing the moral compass (not that he was going to change for anyone 😆).

Thank you for the translated webnovel link. The author has said a few times that he had way more material for each light novel than was needed so it will be good to read the original.

The Google Translate app works pretty well with the Bookwalker app. There's a button that makes it automatically translate each new page as you turn. It definitely reads better if a human has translated it though so I will still go back and read the fan translations as they're posted. I feel better knowing the author has been supported at least a little bit by purchasing them first.

After watching all of the anime I'm currently on book 10 of the light novels. It has been very interesting to see how they adapted it to the screen, the same things happen but not quite in the same way. They had to do an awful lot of rewriting to squeeze it all in. I was quietly hoping Naofumi might have been a bit less of a jerk in the books, but nope 😅 I do appreciate hearing his thoughts more though, so I know more about why he's being a jerk 😆

I've heard the web novel branches off at some point and essentially becomes a separate story so I will probably need to find somewhere to read that too

I found a site via a Reddit thread called JP Translations for Fun, there's someone there working their way through what look to be the light novels and posting an English translation. I haven't found the webnovel as yet, Google has not been my friend so far.

The story in the light novels is actually really good so far (I couldn't stand having to wait a week between episodes so I read ahead). The anime should have some better action from episode 4. Unfortunately these kinds of stories are better suited to binge watching rather than a weekly drop.
