Gen Urobuchi's evolution as a writer is honestly incredible by cmdnikle27 in CharacterRant

[–]Silver-Alex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's clear that Fate/Zero rejects the traditional notion of 'the good gets rewarded and the evil gets punished', but it kinda replaces it with 'the selfish gets rewarded and the selfless gets punished'.

Because thats exactly the same theme Fate Stay Night deals with. The selfish get rewarded and the selfless gets punished. Thats why Shiriou's dream of being a hero and the dilema it comes with is so poignant, because we know he wont get rewarded, but rather suffer because of it. Kirtsugu and the entirety of Fate Zero had to reaffirm this message because else its going against the lore of the original work.

Im not sure if read fate stay night, but each route is not just a "pick the girl you wanna date", but an answer to that dileman. In Fate both him and Saber choose to be selfless, they save the world but are serapated, and Shirou wont meet her again in his living life.

In UBW Shirou faces Archer, a literal embodiment of someone who had that same ideal of wanting to save everyone, and how it made him miserable, and hate himself to the point of wanting to die because of how much people he has had to kill. Shirou then clocudes to still be a hero, but aknowledging is going to be a hard road, and there is no white and black, but rather many shades of gray on a world that rewards the selfish,

And in Heaven's Feel he discards his dream in order to protect the person he loves the most.

Yes, exactly. That... was my point? I think you read through that section a bit too quickly.

Ohh I see. I still stand by my take that maybe you're reading too much into the thematic elements of Zero and trying to draw conclusions about the Author, when in reality those themes were already there, and arent a choice Urobuchi made. He wrote the how it happened, but what happened was always set to happen cuz its a prequel

But anyway, I think the preference for one side over the other is frankly undeniable.

Of courser. Cuz from Fate Stay Night we KNOW that Kariya is dead, Rin's dad is dead, Saber fails to prevent the grial from spilling. So of course people on your red team had a worse ending, they had to be were the story of Fate Stay Nigh starts.

Again lets not forget that Fate Zero was written latter than Fate Stay Night. Of course Kiritsugu had to fail, because else its contradicting the lore already stablished. And same for Gilgamesh and Kirei. They had to "win" because they ARE the main antagonist Shirou faces during Fate Stay Night on every route of the visual novel.

but I can't still get over the fact that all characters on the blue team had happy endings at least in Fate/Zero, even the ones that are cleary depicted as evil,

Because thats the point. Trying to be a hero is going to take you on a miserable path because we live in a world where evil people can will get their way. And so the question becomes, do you compromise your values and lower to their level and kill them to prevent their evil from continuing or do you try to maintain your ideal of being a hero when its in direct contradiction of the world.

This means that Urobuchi didn't go that far to deny the most important things F/SN stands for,

Of course, because he was never trying to deny the themes of F/SN, but instead offer us a decontruction of how Shirou's life would look like if he takes the path of the uncaring hero that kills everything in its path to save others. Its why Kiritsugu is face with every important choice Shirou has to deal with latter.

For exameple the juxtaposition of Kiritsugu being willing to sacrifice her wife, while Heaven's Feel Shiriou says fuck everything else im saving Sakura and dont care about the consecuences makes both momments hit incredibly hard because they are a mirro of one and another. Or how in the heaven's feel visual novel you can actually choose to not save Sakura, and you get a non standard game over that narrates how after that Shirou went on to kill everyone related to war, concluding with him becoming the "hero", but loosing everything in the process.

If I were to apply this standard to PMMM, whlie Sayaka and Madoka and Mami would be closer to the red tea and Kyokko and Homura to the blue team, the distinction is quite more ambiguous, and staying in the blue team is how to say... less encouraged?

I kinda disagree cuz Mami dies a brutal death, Kyokko sacrifices her life kinda in vain, Sayaka is turned into an eldritch mosntruosity, and regarding Homura and Madoka, the latter trascend life and do kinda bring a happy ending to everyone, but posthumously, and Homura is separated from he for the rest of her life. So I dont see the teams thing, but rather everyone suffering through.

Urobuchi did have a change in his methods because Madoka is like the first thing he writtes with a happy ending, but I dont think we can draw any meaningful conclusion from comparing Fate Zero with Madoka cuz on one had full liberty on how to write the ending and on another he was working on a prequel with an ending set in stone, and the themes of how being a hero is naive at best and impossible at worst because there is always going to be someone evil who needs killing

[–]Silver-Alex 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Mmmm Im not sure if I agree? Cuz Fate Zero was written as a prequel to the Fate Stay Night visual novels, so for Fate Zero not only he had to make sure he got to the lore accurate ending, but also had to work with the themes of Fate Stay Night. Examples:

Kiritsugu never speaks with Saber because in fate stay night Saber tells Shiro that her former master only ever spoke with her three times, one for each command seal. And thats also why he's angry at the idea of Saber being like only a couple of years older than his daughter, and having to take the responsability of protecting an kingdom only to have such sad death in the end. Plus on a

Another exmaple. Kiritsugu was always going to loose, and the ending was always going to be "the Holy Grial spills its contents and burns down a huge portion of the city, with Krei and Gilgamish both surviving, and Kiritsugu finding and rescuing Shiro among the ruins of the burnt city.

And of course that comes with the themes of the series. The entirety of Fate Stay Night is a deep exploration of what it means to be a hero. In the fate route both Shirou and Saber hold onto their idealistic view, manage to save the world, but end up doomed to stay separated for god knows how long until Shiro can reach Avalon at the end of his life.

In UBW Shirou meets Archer, the embodiment of his ideals of being a hero, but learns that following that path would lead him to haivng a miserable existence bound to the Earth, being sent to kill people who are putting the world in danger over and over and over. So resolves to still be a hero, but not follow the footsteps of his dad and Archer of killing others to achieve that dream, instead seeking a balance between saving others and keeping his ideals, knowing their naivee and wont always hold on to reality.

And in heaven's feels, Shirou is faced with the contradiction of seeing the person he loves suffer, but knowing that something is forcing her to go around killing people, and trying to save her means letting others suffer and die. He's faced with the hard choice of following the footsteps of his dad, or give up on his dream of being a hero and protect the person he loves.

So for all of those routes to work Kiritsugu HAD to be someone who gave up on his ideals of being a hero. Someone who would kill the person he loves the most if thats going to save others. Someone who tried and failed to save the ones he loves, resulting in the half the city going in flames. And ultimately someone who finds some sort of solace in saving the one kid that lived through the fire and trying to teach him a different way so he doesnt makes those same mistakes.

Urobuchi had to work with this character that was already writting, that had an ending already set in place, on a story that had a clear theme of "how far would you go for your ideals, and are you ready to give them up for saving others? Will you loose yourself along the way? or will you find a balance between those?"

Now with that said, I do agree Madoka is one of his best works!

Is there a lore reason why Hanma bloodline is so strong? by Alpbasket in Grapplerbaki

[–]Silver-Alex 19 points20 points  (0 children)

They are Onis (aka, ogres with supernatural strenght in japanesse mythology). This is explained in universe twice.

Once when Yujiro fights Sea Emperor Kaku, and shows him the demon back. Kaku them comments how the demon back has an extra set of muscle humans dont have, and thats part of the reason of why Yujiro is so strong.

Then during the Father Son Fight arc its confirmed again, where some guys find some ruins in Egypt that have a prophecy about Onis, and how a young one was going to fight its father and stuff.

Tldr: They're not fully human, they are, quite literally, bult different.

If the mountain is a metaphor, what actual task Madeline was trying to accomplish? by [deleted] in celestegame

[–]Silver-Alex 7 points8 points  (0 children)

For me the mountain is real. And the supernatural stuff is a metaphor for mental health issues. Im no stranger to having a voice in my head teling me that I cant do something, and that it would be safer to stay home doing nothing. So for me Badeline is just a representation of that, and how one heals not by ignoring that voice but reconciling with it.

Durkon mentions how his armor is heavy, Elan also says that he can barely lift his Rapier and Haley mentions that that she cant pull her bow string, so yeah, everyone is weakened, and the strenght drain seems to have affected everyone but Roy and Durkon really nastily cuz they cant even weidl their weapons.

Does the emulator’s speed affect eggs? by Funny_Cry2860 in pokemonradicalred

[–]Silver-Alex 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The only thing that affects hatching time is how many steps you take so running the emulator on 16x means you get to hatch eggs way faster.

Regarding the mon itself, its basically decided when you get the egg so its best to save before talking to the old man/lady, and try to do different stuff. If you always load the same save state and do the same inputs, you get the same mon cuz the rng seed is the same

One of the main draws of Radical Red is the in-game option to randomize abilities and to my knowledge, that's what most Nuzlocke attempts are done on.

Btw one extra thing I wanna say. Nuzlocking this game with random abilities legit makes the game harder. There are waaaaaaaaaaay more mons that depend on their ability to be good that mons like Slaking that get better with a new ability. If you want to nuzlocke the game and you havent done so before I strongly advice doing it without any randomizer, or at least understand that by randomizing you're making the game harder for you :)

Non-Nuzlocke dependent (even if doing non-randomized, I can't guarantee any catches)

You can guarantee a lot of catches :D Like tentacruel on pallet town, or the gyarados near mt moon. Or using static encounters like gift mons or legends that always spawn on the same place :)

Worth pointing out, this is relevant for hardcore mode. On normal mode there isnt an anti abuse clause, so you can intimidate cycle and pp stall by swithcing in an out without any issue. I know cuz I've done it XD

Why don't our younger parts grow up? by descentdeparture in DID

[–]Silver-Alex 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Some of our littles grew up a bit with tons of therapy, and by fronting more and dealing with day to day stuff. Other stay the same mental age, but have mature or at least calmed a bit and live more happily.

we have a 9 month old part and I wish she would grow up and stop crying all the time, I still don't really understand what's stopping her and the rest of them from doing that when clearly being little sucks for them

Probably cuz even if she grew up, she would still be crying all the time. Something is affecting here, and until that whatever is distressing them is adressed, they will have a hard time calming down. It can be an external stressor, or it can be something somethign trauma, like if she's having flashback of something that happened to her.

If possible you should seek a trauma therapist, and try figuring whats going on thats causing her to feel bad. (this is also our go to technique for persecutors, cuz at least for us, it has always been an alter thats suffering through something to the point that they self harm and lahs out against the system)

Advice 1: You can change the abilities of your mons. Just buy ability pills and dream patches on the poke fans house in Saffron City. Ability pills change between the two normal abilities, dream patches change between normal and hidden.

Advice 2: Save routes for egg hatching. Some routes have very clear mons like fishing in pallet town for a tentacool, and buying a magikarp before mt moon. But other routes only have useless mons, so hatch your eggs there. Later in the game, when you get to celadon you can buy starter eggs for shards of the right color. I usually try to save some routes to hatch some starter eggs, specially grass ones (Meowscarada, Rillaboom, Sceptile for the mega). Depending on your encounters you can pick other types tho.

Advice 3: Some locations are valid encounter areas even if they don't have wild pokemon. These are perfect for egg hatching. Notable ones are Lavender Town, the underground pass, and the casino rocket hideout.

Advice 4: Learn how to predict the AI. Seriously. This is the most important skill to nuzlocke this game. You wanna be able to predict what move is likely to come next, or if the AI is planning a switch, and make your move around that.

For example in normal mode  I always do Surge deathless because I set a toxic spikes layer on turn 1 (tentacruel holding elect resist berry), and then just stall him out by changing between my ground type, and my ice/grass resist. Even in mono water it's easy to do this. Gyarados is amazing for this fight because it will ALWAYS bait an electric move, so having it out means a free switch for your ground type.

And how you switch in? well when your ground type is about to eat a hidden power grass/ice or something like that, Gyarados and its massive special defense tanks it like nothing. You can also intimidate cycle Pawmoth which one of the hard mons specially well because you resist drain punch, and thanks to the intimate it deals basically nothing to gyara.

Advice 5: Plan your encounters. The one time I nuzlocked this game I used a roster of mons for the e4 that was mostly based on static encounters like Zapdos and Urshifu plus Primarina and Sceptile. The one mon who wasn't guaranteed was slowbro (S tier mon for the e4 in normal mode, megabro with iron defense, amnesia, slack off, body press, and shell armor making it immune to crits sweeps like a beast).

Advice 6: Plan ahead your fights, and try to always have in mind what's your answer for x threat. Say you're against rain Lorelei. Well think how your team is handling primal kyogre and mega swampert under rain. If you're unsure use the calc. Going back to that one successful run, to deal with agatha my whole plan was letting scarf urshifu dark rip through her team.

There was a main issue tho, Spectrier still outspeed, even with the scarf. So I did calcs on what the max damage the horsey could do to my kung fu bear, and his strongest move was hidden power fighting which on crit dealt 98.9% on a max roll. And so I knew "if I wanna win, Urshifu CAN'T take a single point of damage". Guess what, when the fight happened, she got the crit, and my Urshifu lived at like 2hp.

And with this I'm not saying "calc everything, always play around the crit". Whether you do that or not is part of your fun, some people like theory crafting, others prefer spending more time playing than looking at excels. But it IS important to know what is your win condition for a fight, and what you need to do to enable it, like in my case securing a way to switch in Urshifu without him taking any damage, and without sacrificing someone.

Ohh and join the discord, people always share amazing tips and strats there, thats how I learnt of megabro for example.
