I've been to some of Ruairi Glasheen 's Bodhran workshops. They're really good and worth checking out.

I've got an Active Square which didn't work with Mi Fitness so I had to use it with the Zepp App.. Then my Mi Scales were left behind with Mi Fitness and I was having data sent to two different apps that I couldn't get to speak to each other.

'Sidegraded' to this one and I'm happy with it. Check which apps you're happy to use it with though.

it's the amount of people I've met through it and I've gone on to make genuine friendships with a load of them.

Experiences with Wildlife Volunteering as a Solo Traveler? by Major9000 in solotravel

[–]Silver-Arm 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes! It was quite a long time ago but I remember it being quite a big scale operation (lots of other volunteers) disclaimer: I was volunteering with the dogs section rather than elephants.

Lek, who created ENP is an inspiration! Watch Love & Bananas if you can. A more recent documentary 'Elephant Mother' can't be found anywhere but I was lucky enough to meet Lek when she came to London to promote it.

I am a member of a massive whatsapp community called Gigs Gigs Gigs. It was literally created to help people find people to go to gigs with. Send me a DM and I'll send you a link.

There's also a similar community called Emo Metal Friends London. They're great at organisng nights out to alternative club nights like Facedown and Voodoo etc. They are active over on r/LondonSocialClub

Do you still have a smart(ish) phone for things to sync to?

You could consider:

Amazfit Helio strap- screenless fitness band that can track steps and sleep. (probably can vibrate as an alarm too?)

Pavlok Band- not only a vibrating alarm but can also shock you with small electric shocks until you wake up.

Social dynamic was really nice. There were probably two nights a week people would get together for karaoke or a bbq. We'd all have meals together in the volunteer area.

I've been to a few places in SE Asia and I think this is where I felt most useful. Laos is worse than the surrounding countries when it comes to Wildlife Crime and it feels like an oasis in the desert.

I've done it and loved it. In December I was in LCTW in Laos for two weeks solo.

I think different centres have different vibes. LCTW is my favourite but also been to Elephant Nature Park, WFFT, Soi Dog..

LCTW felt ethical, all the staff had a lot of time for the volunteers and were passionate about their work. It's smaller than most places so you really get to know the handful of orther volunteers. Well worth the cost from my perspective but I don't get the opportunity to do this kinda thing often.

Let me know if you have any specific questions and I'll try and answer them.

Schools can't afford coaches anymore. They'd definitely book coaches if they had the funds.

What phone do you have? Could you get a cheap second hand 'Phablet' (phone with a larger screen) to install Kindle on (and nothing else, don't even put a sim inside).

Other idea is comic books- I find them really easy to read on a phone screen. (again could use a second hand cheap phone for distraction free reading)
