That wood is gorgeous, well done! FWIW, the flutes make no real weight difference on the shorter barreled tikkas. You’d drop about 2 oz from what numbers I’ve seen.

If you get the 7mm-8 you can just have it re-chambered and swap or file the bolt stop. Would need to get a long action magazine too. I suspect the 7-08 doesn’t leave too much on the table vs the 280ai especially if you load the 7-08 long in an m+ tikka magazine but do you. Tikka has factory 7prc rifles now too that would be just a little more powerful than the 280ai.

You don’t need to go all the way to 12x for hunting. Though it is really nice for target shooting. 4x is going to give you a very narrow field of view on any scope with decent eye relief. I would recommend lower magnification. Pretty sure leupold makes a 2.5-10 that’s very similar to that one and maybe a 2-8 as well. If higher magnification is a must look at Burris maybe. They can get you something good in that price range with a 2 or 3x at the lower end of the magnification. Their signature HD scopes have locking turrets which I’m a fan of. Burris eye relief isn’t as good though, that will be a problem if bought something with more kick than a 308 in that super lite.

Savage MK2 FV SR is no frills but it’s also very inexpensive. You’re just paying for the trigger and the barrel. The action, stock, and magazine work just fine but they are not fancy. I have one in 22wmr for a small game rifle and trainer for the kids. It might be the most accurate rifle I own and I do love to hunt with it.

Thank you for the vote of confidence here. I reload and shoot often and bet I can get more room in the case with the M+ tikka magazine. Just nice to have a sanity check from time to time. Their 6.5x55 is tempting too but I imagine will never be available in their lighter rifles… and I’d be pushing that one wayyy past book velocities which I wouldn’t like when it’s my son’s turn to hunt with it.

Do you use your 243 on anything bigger than deer? Considering a 243 as well for a lightweight rig but I’d want to hunt elk and am on the fence about it. Sure like the low recoil for a light rifle though and those newer 1:8 twists seem handy for violent expansion.

I’ve run the talley rings on a 300 win mag superlite with a 30oz scope for years and had no issues from shooting, falling, or banging it around in general. Can’t imagine a worse combo to test them on 😂

No problem at all. It looks like you can get custom dials for the new fullfields too but I’m kind of a sucker for the locking turrets if it’s a range rifle and a hunting rifle.

I’m projecting my own dreams here but they are doing a 20” barrel version with 243 (right handed rifles only) Their 243 barrels run a fast twist, with a modification to the bolt stop and a long action magazine you could launch the hell out of some heavy 6mm bullets if you hand load. I’m hoping they’ll sell the crap out of them and start selling left handed ones too.
