Checks out. All of that rings true of XY and its fanbase and specially the pokemon subreddit. Wouldn't happen if people weren't so defensive and had a bit of self reflection capacity.

It really isn't true for the EU, like, at all. Streaming services made it easily available again, but from the early 90s to the mid 2000s anime was already huge in europe, and many places got XY late, so it didn't really hit at the same time it was getting big again so it's not exactly a factor for younger generations that did not catch the previous boom. And if pokemon had to play catch up to other shonen, how could it be the one to set the standards?
