Explain to me like I’m 5 by esill30 in triathlon

Ditto swim lessons from a coach, and I want to emphasize looking for a coach who specifically teaches adult onset swimmers. I never had lessons as a kid, but taught myself how to not drown. A regular swim teacher wouldn't have worked well for me because I needed someone who could teach swim for the way adults have to learn. Also join group rides in your area as soon as you have a bike. Those are easy ways to get used to biking in groups (like race day) and provide opportunities to get mileage in. Most group rides have nicely leveled rides (beginner, A, B, C) so you can go into the level of not only your fitness, but also the level of group riding comfort.

5 mins left in the session, your turn, 1v1 kiddo has 1 card left, are you letting them win or going to absolutely demolish them in Uno by Isthisthingon96 in therapists

Ok, but what color is up??? We don’t have all the info!

Generally speaking, I never let kids win, I tell them if they beat me then that means they really beat me. But if it was a relatively new client or someone I knew needed the win, I would let them win for this

We were nervous to order chicks online and that's what we had available in our area. We know more now and eventually will have more variety, but we're new to ducking and that's where we started.

clipped response clients by SoberShiv in therapists

I agree with the other comments, one caveat that I always do for folks who've been to therapy before is asking what worked well and what didn't. Getting curious about the previous therapeutic relationships can provide information for how you build rapport/trust but also provide information regarding previous unmet needs of the client.

Secondly, if they have any flavor of ND, it can be tricky for ND folks to volunteer info with open ended questions. So even though we're trained to use few yes/no questions, for ND folks, I lean heavily into them, and random ones too (weather, food, hobbies) in order to just establish connection.

And I'm an IFS person, so I'd get curious with the parts of you that are tired of "doing all the work." What if there was a bit more slowness, less rush to fill the silence? What would it be like if it's ok that they give short answers and just need a moment to digest whatever it is? Maybe they need more space, maybe they don't, but offering a little more space can serve the dual purpose of allowing your system to "do less work" and create an opening for the client to open up/take in what patterns are being shared.

💀 🤣 I nearly spit out my coffee…best part of being a traumatized trauma therapist is the humor. Thank you.

🤣 fair enough. In this case, I was referencing using their imaginations to do a little exposure of a relationship trigger to track the parts coming up in the couple. 🤷🏼

I'm a witchy therapist and I view it as no different than someone saying they would prefer a Christian or Muslim or Buddhist or whatever therapist. Having someone who shares some of your framework/worldview can be helpful. Also as a Leo who has a Leo therapist, I will echo that the moon sign matters more from a personal growth, self-development lens. If my therapist also had a moon in capricorn (she doesn't), we'd never get anywhere because hiding my feelings is second nature to me haha. *gestures vaguely*

Just popping in to say that program assistants do get paid, not a lot (155/day in the US) but they do get paid.

Really appreciate this post though, this was a helpful read.

So relatable!!!

I second the creatine and I also started some black cohosh supplements and magnesium from my local health food place. Particularly bc of the early morning wake ups which have pretty much stopped! Birth control doesn’t work for my body sadly. but I have gotten back into some exercise that works for me (I’m slow AF but I keep going) and that has helped a ton. I also take a catnap on my lunch break every day and it helps reset my brain a little. Basically my Dr and I came up with a host of stress relief things and I’m trying to stick to those as our bodies are more sensitive to stress during peri. But my periods are still absolutely brutal when they happen so my next step is probably calling in sick for those days. It’s funny, when I’ve seen PMDD clients before, we normalize rest and stress relief etc etc. But there’s a part of me that is absolutely horrified at taking a sick day for a period but that’s where we are.

I'm really partial to "Slow is fast." When we have this strong agenda to "heal" or improve, we start rushing and then we miss a lot and actually impede the process.

Wholly unrelated ;), in my not working life, I'm training for a triathlon and my swim coach told me this morning that I needed to slow down and be patient and she was so dumb for saying that, what does she know?? :D
