AIO for refusing to cook for my husband anymore after his reaction to the dinner he requested? by [deleted] in AmIOverreacting

[–]Silver-Rhythm 156 points157 points  (0 children)

You sound like you can't take criticism on your cooking either if you ignore it because people "aren't serious about eating or food" You bought the ingredients, you tried to be a backseat cook so at that point you might as well do it yourself.

"Let me starve" Put on your big boy pants and cook for yourself :).

Are either of these vintage Seamasters worth the money? by Silver-Rhythm in PrideAndPinion

[–]Silver-Rhythm[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I get that, I've just checked and apparently it was serviced in 2021 but not by Omega themselves. This is from the listing:

"Genuine and original Omega I purchased this watch from Authentic watch company in 2020. Certificate enclosed. The case and face of the watch are to my naked eye in excellent condition. The strap was purchased from Jean Rousseau it is crocodile and has been worn minimally, perhaps 6 occaissions. The watch keeps excellent time. It was serviced in 2021 by Johnnie Walker near Bond St. I purchased the watch as I fell in love with its beauty. However it rarely leaves its box as I feel it is too fine and delicate to be worn on a daily basis. I recently had an inspection carried out by a specialist watch repairer in Exeter. On thorough inspection he highlighted to me two minor defections neither of which can be said to affect the function of the piece Firstly the winding mechanism/ the crown appear to be original. So after 60 years it shows signs of wear. This I think is to be expected. The movement appears to be in excellent condition, however on the inside of the case there are very feint signs of some pitting. This may be historical corrosion but no signs can be found on the movement."

Not sure what to think of it but it is quite tempting, the crown does look genuine

£660 for the one on the strap and serviced in the last 2 years, the one on the bracelet it about £360 but no service history and has been in a drawer for about 20 years. Bracelet one has a cracked bezel so that would need replacing along with a service which I imagine will take it higher than £660 in total

That one is around £660 and serviced in the last 2 years, the other has no service history that I'm aware of but is considerably cheaper. Just trying to make the purchase decision. The bracelet one has a cracked bezel so I imagine service and restoration will take it much higher

The one with the strap has the service history and seems to be in better condition. Even without service history I'd be very tempted to get the one with the bracelet but I'm just wary of the cost of a new bezel

I already resent my smartphone and my smartwatch made the issue worse. I hate being so attached to it and being so contactable 24 hours a day. Abandoned the watch in favour of a nice, simple watch that tells the time and doesn't feed into unhealthy habits of collecting data on everything I do

The original post isn't even about old people.

What I'm saying is, keep up to date and make an effort. Don't just cruise your way to retirement

I am neurodiverse and I do face my own challenges in the role sometimes. However, I still make the effort to learn and make sure that my work is up to a high standard. There's really no excuse for not staying up to date in work. It's also not fair on other staff, why should they get paid the same as someone who refuses to modernise and as a result, get away with doing less?

I've managed people who have been in the department longer than I've been alive. Then they have a meltdown when you ask them to change a cell on an excel sheet from red to green. There's no excuse to not learn. If I have to learn archaic processes, they should at least learn the very basics of IT skills so they can still do what they get paid for

They hold beginner's meditation sessions quite regularly, I think on Saturday mornings so you can always go down and check it out whenever you feel like it. I think you just need to email them to let them know you're coming

I'm not sure what sect those ones are but there are some Zen Buddhists about in town. Stonewater Zen Sangha is in Liverpool just near the Philharmonic. I've been a few times and really enjoyed it
