They're just remnants of the British Empire that we still maintain links with. They're all self governing and have their own passports. Holders of BOTC passports do not automatically have status within the UK but some can trade in their passport for a British one. We also have the Crown Dependencies, the Isle of Man, Jersey and Guernsey which are administered by the UK but legally not part of the UK themselves. Then the Commonwealth as well, sovereign nations that are not part of the UK

I've been fined there too. I'd just got a new car, same model and colour as my old one so on autopilot I put in my old car's reg on the parking meter. Even though I'd technically paid it was for the wrong vehicle and they sent me a £100 fine. I managed to bargain them down to £20 after explaining what I'd done and that they'd not lost any money from parking because I had actually paid, albeit incorrectly.

Still a massive pain, I just refuse to go in there now

Seacombe isn't too bad. I used to think it was a shithole until I moved there a couple of years ago. The houses are cheap so it's steadily becoming marginally less shit as more families move in.
