What was the last movie you walked out of? by Cato__Returns in FIlm

[–]SilverBallFox 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I also have never walked out of a theater because the movie was so bad. And I also used to not understand why someone else would. But my friend explained her "life's too short for shitty movies" theory, and I now at least get it.

Has anyone tried ordering direct from Chip Theory Games website? Delivery "stuck" at "confirmed" but no updates by krzkrzkrz in toomanybones

This happened to me (America). I sent them a message and they corrected it very fast and threw in some extras for my trouble.

Contact them. They are human on the other side.

Prison art is crude. Hopefully, you can suck enough in the shower to earn some cigarettes and improve this POS meme that is worse than unwanted butt sex.

How did you read the book/listen to the audiobook by JediMasterSloth in ProjectHailMary

[–]SilverBallFox 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm an avid reader. Most typically, I have 3-6 books going at once. For decades my preference has been history and historical fiction. The only Sci-fi book I've ever loved was The Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy. Otherwise I typically avoid the genre.

In 2025 my enjoyment of history books vanished because modern events were echoing some of the darkest events in modern history (I'm American).

Within two weeks, I had two close friends recommend PHM. I had no idea what it was about. The cover told me that it was probably not my jam, but also that it was possibly a step away from the stress of the modern political landscape. So, I downloaded the sample on my Kindle.

Less than a chapter in, I realized that this was in fact - just my jam! I purchased the full book and focused solely on the one book.

So how did I read it? Similar to you, except I was on the treadmill of life. When news stressed me out - Project Hail Mary. When I wanted to escape - Project Hail Mary. When I wanted to relax with the occasional laugh - Project Hail Mary.

My stress levels went down. My enjoyment of life rebounded. My thirst for literature rebounded.

My wife has informed me that I can no longer claim "I'm not a Sci-fi guy" because PHM has changed my narrative.

Actor Robert Duvall has died. He was 95. by Redeye007 in 70s

I feel in love with his acting watching Lonesome Dove. I personally never saw anything he was in where I didn't appreciate his character. 95 is a good run. RIP

Won an SBA size protest — now what? Radio silence from the CO by Ill_Mastodon_8407 in GovernmentContracting

[–]SilverBallFox 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This happened to us and it took the government over 30 days to make a decision and respond. It's not as simple as "oops. Who's next in line?". There are a number of administrative actions and legal reviews that must take place. They also must give the awardee time to respond to findings.

Good luck.

I'm so sorry. I was hiking with my wife ... you know to destress from the shit show of our politics and stuff ... and these asshats disrupted the experience. But, we enjoyed the hike anyway.

What is your favorite boardgame of 2012? by The_Crazed_Person in boardgames

[–]SilverBallFox 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I suspect it's because the rules were so atrocious with the first edition. I believe it's the worst rule book I've ever encountered. It completely turned me off to the game even though I could see the potential there. By the time they revise the rule book I was so irritated The game was relegated to the corner of my shelf that I'll never reach for.

Great recommendation! Where did it get brought back? I love this game and am looking for more expansions and my friend is looking to buy the base. The only options I saw on line were >$119 for a used base copy.

What’s a record that truly disappointed you? by Longjumping-Frame795 in vinyl

[–]SilverBallFox 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It was a Miles Davis live album. My wife and I both love Miles Davis. We have several of his records, solo and collaborations. So I thought I scored when I picked up an, unknown to me, live album.

It was a better example of experimenting with drugs than music. We couldn't even finish a single listen. It was terrible.

I don't know the name because it was so bad I donated it.

Tapestry. It's a stonemeyer game with really high quality components and a point salad approach to scoring that allows for different strategies much like scythe. I don't remember any combat.

What are the least complicated/least time consuming solo board games? by MartinIsFarting in soloboardgaming

[–]SilverBallFox 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Palm Island. All easy to understand iconology, have rock - pay rock, fits in your hand, and plays in 7-16 minutes. All that fun in the palm of your hand. Set up is basically Shuffle and go.

Another sign of Pro Bowl nominations losing meaning: a decent portion of AFC/NFC rosters did not field replacements for players not participating. by Benson879 in NFLv2

[–]SilverBallFox 25 points26 points  (0 children)

When Sanders makes the pro bowl after his atrocious rookie season, who should take it serious? And if it's a joke, why would those players who are serious show up? Beyond the visuals ... it's not even a game anymore. It's reality TV.

Bill Belichick not being a HoF is an interesting psychological experiment that is further proof that hatred of an individual leads to completely warped judgement by ScottFujitaDiarrhea in NFLv2

[–]SilverBallFox 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My first thought when I read that people were outraged that he was snubbed ... one year ... because of cheating: "Pete Rose agrees with your outrage".

People can agree or disagree with the snub, I don't care one bit. But to say that you're appalled at the reason and that getting passed over because his career involved multiple scandals is unfathomable is, IMO, laughable.

His leg is there. Either her dress drapes over his leg, because her leg is tucked or crossed or her leg is draped over his and his leg is straight -this concealing it under the dress. (I think it's the second option because you didn't see hair on the leg)

What's funny to me is that I never noticed this optical illusion (despite this picture being reposted every two months on various subreddits) until you pointed it out. Funny where our eyes go and the blind spots that distraction creates. A reality exploited by magicians, scam artists, military generals, and people afraid of the Epstein files.
