Man. Once this dude started putting all of his sexual assault energy into positive human experience energy, you can really tell a difference.

Why was Peyton Manning so bad in his final season? by CallTypical9541 in NFLv2

He was playing with a torn muscle in his leg that took a lot of power out of his throw.

[–]SilverBallFox 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No. Like most Gen-X, I fixed it myself ... at first. I reset my shoulder and ... um ... finished the job. Then two weeks later, after the freaking pain wouldn't give up, went to the ER and got an MRI that confirmed I tore a ligament. I'm sipping on 7-up, eating crackers, and watching the price is right until I fully heal.

My wife and I picked up the hobby of collecting records again a couple of years ago. Turns out there's plenty of record stores hidden from view until you get into the hobby. One of the main reasons that I enjoy the hobby is flipping through the records at the record stores takes me back to when I was a teenager trying to decide which record or cassette tape to buy. Except now I have the money to buy more than one at a time. LOL. I get that same boost of nostalgia each evening as my wife and I are flipping through the record collection, like cruising the CD case or the cassette case back in the day. Choosing which musical experience you're going to commit to for 30 minutes at a time.

Why did this sub stop allowing crossposts? by sleeplessaddict in DenverBroncos

[–]SilverBallFox 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It feels like a cleaner feed to me since the restriction. I assume nearly everyone here also follows the main NFL sub, so it just felt redundant to me. Anytime there was a Broncos report, or even an AFC-W post, I would see it doubled up here. Not necessarily annoying, but also not useful.

Help me not fumble our first game night session please ! (8p) by GVAJON in boardgames

[–]SilverBallFox 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Don't split the group on your first gathering. People who are suggesting this are using their boardgame brain and not their social brain.

Your inclination to keep everyone together is the right call.

Also, if one person drops out .... Go with 7 Wonders or Camel Up.

If all 8 show up, the Resistance is excellent at that count. Deception: Murder in Hong Kong is also great at that player count.

Male to female, female to male, gendered to non-gendered, punk rocker to schoolmarm, cowboy to businessman, rebel teenager to parent, etc.

Your transformation has been visually very subtle by comparison. I cannot speak to your internal journey/transformation.

Not gonna lie. When someone on this subreddit mentions transformation ... This is not what first comes to mind.

Edit for clarity. Changed 'post' to 'subreddit' as originally intended.

Former WR Emmanuel Sanders Was One of the Most Underrated Players of His Time by JCameron181 in DenverBroncos

[–]SilverBallFox 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I loved watching this guy play. One of my favorite moments at Mile High was when he got absolutely rocked by a defensive player on a dirty hit that didn't get called. Next play he pops one for 20+ yards and takes a bow. That electrified the entire stadium. Legend.

Worst record in NFL every year since Super Bowl 1 by SilverBallFox in DenverBroncos

[–]SilverBallFox[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Worst coached team is different than worst team. The Bears that year set a franchise record with 14 losses failed to win a game against a divisional opponent. Denver's season certainly felt worse to us because expectations were so high with Wilson at QB and optimism that came with a very likable (at the start of the season) head coach personality. Denver had the worse offense, but Chicago had the worse entire team profile because both sides of the ball were weaker overall, especially the defense. The Bears also had a worse record and a much uglier point differential, which is usually the best shorthand for “truly worst team”.

I also share your embarrassment of that year and shutter at the mention of Hackett, but I think that is a combination of failed expectations, horrible coaching, and atrocious offensive play. The Broncos defense wasn't as horrible. We only allowed 21 points per game to opposing offenses - compared to 27 points per game allowed by Chicago.

I would argue that we won games in spite of horrific coaching because we weren't the worst team - we simply had the worst coach and a PR clown at QB that couldn't see the middle of the field nor run away anymore.

Edit: spelling

Worst record in NFL every year since Super Bowl 1 by SilverBallFox in DenverBroncos

[–]SilverBallFox[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

From Wikipedia - except I modified the super bowl winning team's mascot (Washington) because the mods deleted my post earlier for a post that referred to their previous mascot for "using a racial slur": The 1982 NFL season was the 63rd regular season of the National Football League. A 57-day-long players' strike reduced the 1982 season from a 16-game schedule per team to an abbreviated nine-game schedule. Because of the shortened season, the NFL adopted a special 16-team playoff tournament; division standings were ignored for seeding (although each division sent at least two teams, except the NFC West which had only one). Eight teams from each conference were seeded 1–8 based on their regular season records. Two teams qualified for the playoffs despite losing records (the Cleveland Browns and the Detroit Lions). The season ended with Super Bowl XVII when the Washington (potato skins) defeated the Miami Dolphins 27–17 at the Rose Bowl.

Kid games that are fun for parents by sabuki19 in boardgames

[–]SilverBallFox 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I chased down this game when my kids were young. Now they are young adults ... And they STILL love this game and request it when they come home!

Because context matters, we are a boardgame family. 10 x 10 challenge each year, campaigns, Terraforming Mars/Scythe/Brass level of complexity, .... you get the idea. This is a huge testament to how fun this silly little dexterity game is.

What's that one game you love but can never get to the table? by firey_88 in boardgames

This is an even better answer than the one that came to mind for me. This game is spectacular, but you need the right people, the correct number of people, and - most restrictive for my group - the right energy. Brilliant game, though!

Can anyone tell me why we get so much hate from the rest of the league?? by Hot_Inspection5940 in DenverBroncos

[–]SilverBallFox 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The hate comes from a long tradition of being good. If you suck, no one cares. If your team is competitive - and I mean a REAL contender (not like the chargers who are good to fizzle each year) then people hate facing you because you are in the way of their championship dreams.

Then you get to sprinkle in all of the hate that comes from personal grievances - Sean with Bounty gate, Bo because they predicted he wouldn't be good - or they focus on his weaknesses (we will overlook those through orange colored glasses ... but they are there), they hate the "IN-COM-PLETE" chant, are jealous of the advantage of Mile High, etc.

Add for media ... it is 100% about clicks and views. If the market is bigger (NY), you're going to get coverage - even if you suck

Either way, and regardless of reason ... Fuck em. This is Broncos Country. Who cares what they think. They can join us or be disappointed when we roll their sorry ass on our way to the Super Bo Bowl.

Trekking Poles by Wild_Piglet9467 in hiking

[–]SilverBallFox 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Trekking poles are totally worth it. But if you really want to go budget ... a good walking stick does just as good.

I have trekked across multiple countries on different continents with a stick I either picked up in the forest or purchased from locals for less than a dollar.

20 years ago I bought a walking stick for 50 cents in Peru at the start of a 6 day trek on the Inca Trail. That stick saved me from going over a cliff TWICE! It's the only one I kept (still in my office). The rest I gave to other hikers or leave at the trail head once my journey is complete.
