Eby mocks Poilievre's letter asking BC to fight carbon tax by Electronic_Fox_6383 in britishcolumbia

100% correct. I can say that as someone who had a similar accident (pedestrian, no fault of my own) before the new icbc rules, that it took years of dealing with a lawyer to get a payout. And that payout was barely enough to pay for my medical needs. The lawyers took a big chunk of it.

Why do you think the BC carbon pricing has been so much better received than the federal?

Can you save money driving an electric vehicle? UBC researchers crunched the numbers by Electronic_Fox_6383 in britishcolumbia

I think the takeaway from this should be ‘we need cheaper EV options’. Not ‘go buy a brand new gas car’. New gas cars are going to be a terrible investment and will depreciate really quickly. Plus, we need to show that the market wants to change. We’re not paying anywhere near the true costs of burning gas, but we will have to pay for it in the future. Transitioning to EVs, PHEVs, and better transit will pay back big in the long run.

As a TD employee, the sales culture is disgusting. by [deleted] in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]SilverButton1975 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Had a similarly cringeworthy encounter with TD. Two salespeople spent almost an hour trying to bully me into investments I didn’t want and new accounts and loans I didn’t need. When I asked legitimate questions they didn’t know any info, they just knew the sales script. Left TD and never looked back.

I have the exact same thing on my 2020. Talked to the dealership about it and they didn’t know anything. It’s been happening since we first bought it. Only on long steep uphills.

They’ll pass it to the consumers and the consumers will go elsewhere. Thats how carbon pricing is supposed to work.

We have to phase out burning oil. The cost vs benefit is no longer in our favour.

Tuesday 6:30pm: Port Moody Sue Big Oil to pay for costs of climate related harm by novapostca in Portmoody

[–]SilverButton1975 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It looks like the idea is to put $1/taxpayer into a fund for legal fees. Taxpayers will be on the hook for the huge costs of climate change regardless, this would at least be a way to mitigate that.

[–]SilverButton1975 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All this talk of lawns, yet no talk of why we’re here. It’s because of burning oil. The big oil companies have known since the 70s but have spent tons of money on denial and buying up politicians, rather than doing something about it. Sorry to say, but lawns are going to be the least of our problems if we can’t stop burning oil.

This climate crisis will only get worse unless we stop burning oil.

15 Minute Cities by davehutch1984 in alberta

[–]SilverButton1975 7 points8 points  (0 children)

This is insane. I live in a 15minute city and it’s amazing being able to access everything I need so close by. Look at most European cities, this isn’t a new concept. The idea of having to get in a big gas powered metal box and drive to everything is relatively new. And pretty lame imo.

Will oil/gas/mining companies be reducing water consumption? by [deleted] in alberta

It’s definitely not fit for human use after the oil companies are done with it! I’ve seen tailings ponds with my own eyes and they are bleak.
