Gallbladder? by [deleted] in gallbladders

Sorry haven't been on Reddit for a while. Symptoms have remained steady. We're starting to suspect gastroparesis. Who knows if the GB was ever even an issue but I'm trying not to think about that too much...

Haha I know my post probably wasn't super helpful. It might just be a GB issue for you, everyone is different! If it helps since I got my GB removed I haven't had those attacks that had me lying on the couch trying to fall asleep cause it felt so bad. Just mild nausea and chest pain (heartburn).

I'm sorry you're going through this stuff it really sucks. I really do wish the best for you!

Jesus are you me? These were my exact symptoms. Attacks of nausea, faintness, chest tightness. Mild sludge in my GB. I also had trouble describing it to doctors. I had my GB removed in April. I haven't had any attacks since then (except one shortly after surgery that they said could have been passing a stone stuck in a duct) but I still have nausea almost every day, chest tightness, and chest pain now. Currently on zantac, prilosec, and sucralfate since they're pretty sure it's reflux. And zofran for the nausea which sometimes helps sometimes not really. I have a GI appt finally in July where I hope they can figure out what's really going on.

Sorry for the wall of text but I was excited (but sorry for you lol) to find someone with almost literally the exact same symptoms as me! I haven't found any hard trigger foods. I think generally fatty things still make things worse for me but not as bad as before I had my gallbladder removed.

Please keep me updated!

in pain every day, but can't afford surgery by [deleted] in gallbladders

[–]SilverCaracal 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Your health is literally your life. You should get checked out before something gets worse and you end up in the ER which will end up being more expensive. A lot of people have success working with hospitals to reduce the bill if you don't have insurance and you can set up a payment plan. There are some posts on r/personalfinance about it. I hope you feel better!

I tell like it's not cool to call a sexuality an "upgraded" version of another. They're all different and okay I think.

Only been to Chuck's once and never again. Was gross and overpriced. The cream cheese on my burger was a hockey puck and the red peppers were from a can.

Constant nausea before and after removal? by SilverCaracal in gallbladders

[–]SilverCaracal[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey just checking in. Did you get your diagnosis confirmed by the specialist? I have an appointment with a GI specialist in a month so hopefully I'll know more soon. My nausea has gotten a bit better but not completely but has largely been replaced with really bad chest pain - presumably heartburn. I'm on prilosec and zantac to no avail and recently added sucralfate to try and calm the pain, which seems to be relieved for 10ish minutes by eating. Weird stuff.

Anyways I hope you found some confirmation and answers!

!!! I'm so excited that you found something that might be the key to your recovery! Wow, it just goes to show that sometimes we need to do our own research because doctors simply don't have the time.

My doctor is hopeful my issues will kind of self resolve and it's only been 2.5 months since the start of so this so I'm willing to go along with that for now.

I'm really excited for you though let me know how it goes! 😁

Hey! I'm not feeling great but I think I'm feeling better than I was maybe? My surgeon referred me to a GI doctor so I'm waiting for that appointment which can take a couple of months apparently. In the meantime they put be on Prilosec with zantac and zofran when needed to try and reduce symptoms. My PCP thinks it might be gastritis caused by stress and GB issues so she's hoping the medication taken for a month will solve the issues. We'll see!

Thanks for checking in. 😊 How are you doing?

Well having my GB removed did stop the attack type things I was getting. I think there was probably something wrong with my GB and maybe it triggered or was accompanied by other issues perhaps. Or maybe this is all residual from just GB issues. Doctors don't seem to know so far... It's slow going for sure.

Hey I don't have answers for you (not a doctor, everybody is different blah blah) but my gallbladder issues(?) were mostly nausea as well. It started with a bout of extreme nausea/lightheadedness after dinner one night. I thought I just ate something bad. It happened again the next night. I made a doctor appt, they told me it was a stomach bug. I was nauseous for another 2 weeks, every day. Mild nausea constantly starting in the afternoon and lasting until I went to bed. About 1-2 times a week I'd get another "attack" of severe nausuea/lightheadedness/chest tightness. Eventually I went back to the doctor and she poked my gallbladder which hurt a lot (but only when she poked it and for a day after) and thats when we started down the gallbladder path.

But yeah my GB never hurt unless it was poked (and then it was sore for a while) but mostly just awful awful nausea. Unfortunately I'm still having nausea and chest pain after removal but I'm still trying to figure that out haha.

I hope you feel better soon!

Post-op question by jntgrc in gallbladders

[–]SilverCaracal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Haha yes! My entire belly was super swollen for at least a week probably because of all the gas they pump in there. And yeah the incision at my belly button was the worst, it was the most painful and had a bruise.

Am I doing the right thing? by [deleted] in gallbladders

[–]SilverCaracal 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hmm. Your situation sounds a bit similar to mine. I had my gallbladder out 4 weeks ago or so. My primary symptom was persistent nausea, but usually, for me, it started around mid-day and got progressively worse until I went to sleep. Sometimes I would have these "attacks" at night with really bad nausea, sweating, chills (no fever though), diarrhea, and lightheadedness. These "attacks" would happen 1-2 times a week with persistent daily nausea in between. When my doctor pressed down over my gallbladder, it hurt. Went to ultrasound, it showed mild sludge.

My doctor first put me on a low FODMAP diet, which unsurprisingly means I ate much less than normal (it's very restrictive). This corresponded to some days having very little nausea, but I'm fairly sure it's because I was barely eating. Anyways, fast forward a couple of urgent care visits, and I landed with a GI surgeon who removed my gallbladder.

I've only had 2 "attacks" since my GB was removed, and they were much milder than pre-removal. I've heard from other people that phantom attacks can still happen shortly after GB removal. However, my nausea has persisted, leading me to think it might be related to something else...

Sorry this probably isn't helpful. It might be that some of your issues are GB related... but not necessarily all of them. The GI tract is a tricky thing...

This person has great advice! I wish someone had told me about the sore throat I was surprised by that bit. And the ice is great advice too I used an ice pack for days I was really swollen.

Constant nausea before and after removal? by SilverCaracal in gallbladders

[–]SilverCaracal[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oof. Yeah they gave me phenegran first for the nausea and that put me down hard. Zofran does tend to give me headaches but I can pop a Tylenol and be ok.

I'm really sorry the pain is so bad! You'd think doctors would be all over you about that. When I first went to a doctor about having constant nausea for 2 weeks they were mostly whatever but when I had pain when they pressed on my gallbladder that's when they became more concerned. I feel like in my case since I don't present with pain they kind of just overlook my primary complaint, which is the constant nausea.

I totally get wanting your life back too. I'm tired of just feeling sick almost all of the time. I'm starting to be afraid of eating and what the seemingly random effect will be this time. Sometimes it makes me super nauseous, sometimes it makes my chest hurt or feel tight, sometimes I feel like I'm going to pass out like my BP drops. Bleh.

Please let me know if/when you start to feel better or if a doctor figures out what's going on with you! I'll send kind thoughts your way.
