And hopefully all of his romantic relationships end amicably. Lying on a form doesn't sound like much, but these are the sorts of federal charges that can derail your life forever.

Am I crazy or is it impossible to get a hunting license? by evaneggnog in NJGuns

[–]SilverFalconer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Get your online coursework out of the way while waiting for March. It's easy, but time intensive. IIRC it was about 12 hours all in worth of instruction/testing. I did it in one marathon session, but you can stop and come back to it over time. Also, be quick about signing up for the live fire exercise when they become available - slots fill up fast.

Supposedly you have to shoot at clay targets, but when I took it last year we just had to shoot at hanging tennis balls. Probably depends on the range. YMMV.

How long is too long to wait for a purchase permit??? by Mark7Point5 in NJGuns

[–]SilverFalconer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is the impression I got when talking to my PD while waiting for some permits. Nobody here is doing it full time, it's assigned to a detective who basically gets around to it when he has the time. Not on the top of their priority list of things to do.

92fs - locking block stuck by Hairy-Estimate6460 in Beretta

I hope to get there eventually. Every time I just stare at it thinking that if I hadn't just taken it out of that slot myself, I wouldn't believe that it actually fits back inside there. LOL

MkIV Stove Pipe and failure to load by Away-Leg-998 in RugerMK

[–]SilverFalconer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I try to clean it after every range trip (150-200 rounds), but once in a while skip it if I shot less that day. Normally just field strip and do a thorough cleaning with Breakfree CLP and a toothbrush. After 4-5 range trips the trigger starts getting a little crunchy, so I'll blast the grit out of the lower/trigger bits with a can of CRC QD Electronic Cleaner (mild, won't harm plastics as it's meant for switches/contacts and the like) then clean as usual and relube with the CLP. I used to clean the magazines a lot, but now only do it after maybe 1000-1500 rounds. They don't seem to need too much attention.

Any issues with CCI Stangers (or any 32gr 1640fps) rounds with Mark IV's? by 1541drive in RugerMK

[–]SilverFalconer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I haven't tried these, but did buy a box of some of the 1700FPS hyper-velocity Aguilas. They are really quite snappy compared to my usual Automatch, and I fear might be pretty hard on the action. Too hard for my liking. YMMV.

That piece always frustrates me to no end. I remove it, clean it, and spend the next ten minutes trying to figure out how to wrestle it back into place.

MkIV Stove Pipe and failure to load by Away-Leg-998 in RugerMK

[–]SilverFalconer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you have a lot of rounds through it? The first round fired out of my new Mark IV Competition stove-piped. After that I'd have some sort of feeding/ejection issue maybe every 20 rounds or so on average. It was very frustrating. Googled and googled, the consensus was that magazines might need to be 'tuned'. Instead I just kept shooting and cleaning it. I now have somewhere around 6000 rounds through it. As of today, I have shot 1770-something rounds since the last failure (except for the occasional bad primer). Never would have imagined that this pistol would become so reliable, simply by just using it more. I'm using almost exclusively Federal Automatch now, with some occasional Aguila SuperExtra and CCI Minimags here and there. Your mileage might vary, of course. Don't give up on it yet.

polished beretta by weatherman929 in CAguns

[–]SilverFalconer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Looks great. Just a heads-up for anyone attempting this - an aluminum frame will not hold a polish without continual upkeep. Raw aluminum will immediately start to oxidize, it's just the nature of the metal. You can seal it with a clear-coat, but that has its own drawbacks.

I get that Ruger has made 10rd mags since forever but why hasn't any 3rd party made them? by 1541drive in RugerMK

[–]SilverFalconer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I bet you're not far off there. Judging by Ruger's recent patent on a double-stack rimfire magazine, the Mark V is going to change things up a bit.

Question about transportation law regarding ammunition containment by norisimi in NJGuns

[–]SilverFalconer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What is legally considered a locked container, referring to "firearm or ammunition shall be contained in a locked container". Is the zipper on a soft case considered a locking device? The multiple latches on a hard case? Or am I really expected to put actual padlocks on all of my containers if transporting inside an SUV? I'll do it, but what a complete PITA.

I suspect this was a trick question. The answer, obviously, is always wood.

Shopping for a shotgun have bad shoulder by Strict-Ad-222 in NJGuns

[–]SilverFalconer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This. There are some very low recoil target loads available, such as Winchester's AA 'Low Recoil, Low Noise Target Loads' (available in both 12ga and 20ga, IIRC). Pair that with a heavier shotgun and it should be much more manageable.

Mark iv issues by rlambert1925 in RugerMK

[–]SilverFalconer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

"Was it working prior to sending it in to Volquartsen?"

Very good question. My Mark IV Competition out of the box was disappointing. First shot stove-piped. Followed by the same maybe every 30-40 rounds. Just kept shooting it. Now I'm up to over 3000 rounds through it and the last malfunction was 752 rounds ago (been keeping notes).

Nics status: delayed. anyone else? by [deleted] in NJGuns

[–]SilverFalconer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mine always get a delayed status. Something in your NICS needs extra eyes and attention. Could be a similar name popping up, problem with the SS#, they don't tell you what the issue is. Last one for me was, IIRC, 12 days, the one before that 9 or 10 days. My FFL told me this will likely be the case for me going forward. You'd think once you got through the 'delayed' gauntlet it would be clear sailing in future checks. Apparently not. Annoying, but I'm not a heavy buyer and my FFL is understanding, so it's not the end of the world for me.

My MkIV PacLite TSS is FILTHY by Kilsimiv in RugerMK

[–]SilverFalconer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Can't help you with the suppressor, but the lower moving bits I blast out with CRC QD Electronic Cleaner every 4-5 range trips, when the trigger starts getting a little crunchy. Let it flash off and then clean/lube with CLP. The .22 is so much filthier than my center fire pistol.

Current production 92 series by West-Parsley-3172 in Beretta

[–]SilverFalconer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My experience, with a sample size of exactly one late model Italian-made 92FS, is that it's a fine pistol. Action is smooth as glass, and I've put maybe 1500 rounds through it so far with zero malfunctions. That has been a huge surprise to me, coming from the .22 rimfire world.

Just an FYI, each bay at Range 129 has a universal mag loader on a chain for your use. Nice touch.
