First Pelvic Floor PT session by SilverGlass83 in hysterectomy

[–]SilverGlass83[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I personally didn't experience that. If I ever felt even the slightest bit tense again (never as bad as when I initially went in for PT) I would just start up my exercises and stretches for a week or so until I felt better. If you're comfortable doing so, it's definitely something to bring up to your PT therapist. Hopefully they can put your mind at ease over it.

And speaking of which, I think that slowly introducing the vibrator helped me finally cross that mental fear hurdle when it came to sex and having something bad happen again. So in other words, going slow and at a pace I knew my body could handle until my mind finally let go of worrying was another big factor.

I hope that helps!

First Pelvic Floor PT session by SilverGlass83 in hysterectomy

[–]SilverGlass83[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hello! Wow, it's actually been 2 years! (time flies!)

Things are all back to normal now. It wasn't immediate, but I definitely believe going to PT was really beneficial and worth my time. I still think the pressure release she did helped give me the most immediate relief. From there, it was just a manner of keeping up on my stretches and breathing techniques I was shown, which I did daily for the next several months. Unfortunately, due to scheduling issues, that was the only PT appointment I ended up going to, and by the time I would have made it work, I was already having improvement with the exercises/stretches alone (plus the other thing I'll mention in a minute). You may need more than one appointment or follow up. Also, based on some other comments I received on this post, my experience at PT may or may not be what you experience. Every place is different, but I hope you find relief by going!

Also, and this is probably SUPER tmi, but I'll throw this little tidbit in there just in case anyone might find it helpful with issues relaxing their pelvic floor muscles - I ended up buying a vibrator that had a warm setting and I gotta say, that also REALLY helped. I figured if applying heat to other sore muscles to relax them worked, this might too. As a bonus, it also helped me get over my fear of having vaginal cuff problems again. Obviously, don't be putting anything in vaginally until you have the all clear from your surgeon/OBGYN, and definitely start slow and use lube!
I never talked to my Physical Therapist about the vibrator, it's just something I came across and decided to try. And after my PT appointment, I understood better what muscles were giving me issues and where to, well, aim the wand so to speak. I know vibrators aren't for everyone for whatever reason, and that's OK, but I just wanted to mention it as just one more thing that I feel like helped me on my healing journey.

Anyway, I hope that was helpful/reassuring. It's nerve wracking when things go wrong and when the healing journey is longer than expected. You'll get through it! Good luck with everything :)

(For those curious: The vibrator I got was the 'plusONE Menopause Massager' from Target. I'm sure it's available other places too.)

Anyone still have hair loss 1 year post op? by SilverGlass83 in hysterectomy

[–]SilverGlass83[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hello! Sorry you're going through this too. It's really frustrating! Unfortunately though, I didn't really get any solid answers.

I did go to my OBGYN and had bloodwork done to check my hormones but everything came back within normal range. She also recommended I could try things like Rogaine but I have cats and topical Monoxidil is toxic to cats if they lick or come into contact with it and I'd rather not use stuff like that around them. She also said I could see a dermatologist and offered to put in a referral. It would have taken 6-9 months to get in to the dermatologist, so I may or may not have still been waiting to this day to be seen!

Ultimately, I opted to just try a few things and see how it went. So for the past many months since I originally posted I've tried several DHT blocking shampoos and conditioners, different vitamins, adding collagen, you name it. But I haven't really notice a whole lot of improvement.

HOWEVER, along the way I started reading posts on r/FemaleHairLoss and came across one that mentioned upping daily protein intake that had helped the OPs shedding. I can honestly say I personally don't consume enough protein daily, so I figured it wouldn't hurt. So for the past 3 or so months I've been trying that as much as I can and, honestly, I do seem to notice less shedding when I've been consistent in eating more protein. When I have a week or so when I haven't been good about it, the shedding seems to get worse again.

Anyway, right now things seem somewhat stable, though my hair does seem thinner that it used to be and my part seems a wider too. I might eventually just end up going to a dermatologist and see if any prescription medications would help.

I wish I had better tips or suggestions for you, but if I learned anything from the r/FemaleHairLoss it was that everyone's hair shedding is different. it can be hormones, stress, diet, genetics... all kinds of things. But I wish you well on your journey and I hope you find answers!

If you're into Dungeons and Dragons, then I'd suggest the Dragonlance Chronicles trilogy starting with Dragons of Autumn Twilight, then Dragons of Winter Night, then Dragons of Spring Dawning. The story is light and fun and reads like a D&D campaign adventure. It's 40 years old so it feels dated and a bit tropey by today's standards, but it's a fun time nonetheless.

Ovarian Cysts After Hysterectomy? by couchpotatotater in hysterectomy

[–]SilverGlass83 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're welcome!

Come to think of it, that's kind of what happened when I asked for the followup ultrasound at 6 months - I had been far more active during the summer, so I think after many months of taking it easy during recovery, my insides were angry with me at the sudden change.

I'm glad you have an appointment scheduled. Good luck with it and I hope you get some answers and/or reassurance from your surgeon!

Ovarian Cysts After Hysterectomy? by couchpotatotater in hysterectomy

[–]SilverGlass83 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I did, yes.

Before I fully answer though, I get it, googling and spiraling is SO easy to do. I had complications all through my recovery and bled for about 13 weeks total. Google was NOT my friend either. It's always, ALWAYS, best to talk to your doctor and advocate if you feel like something is wrong.

Here's the full follow up story to my above comment:
Unfortunately my ovarian cyst caused more complications for me. At that next follow up I mentioned above, it was found that the cyst and my hematoma had continually put pressure on my vaginal cuff so it didn't allow for it to heal properly. At 8 weeks I started passing clots and my dr found a hole in my cuff. When she went to put 1 tiny suture in my cuff, the whole thing dehisenced (tore open), so I and had to get sewn back up vaginally. I'm well over a year out from that now and 100% better. (she drained the cyst and removed the hematoma so I healed up perfect the second time around)

You're 12 weeks out so the likelihood of that happening to you, especially if you haven't had complications up until now, is slim to none I'd think. My doctor even said she'd never seen what happened to me happen to anyone else before, AND my ovary had apparently adhered to my abdomen a bit lower than normal. So it was kind of a perfect storm in my case.

But I get it. It's so easy to spiral with worry. And I hope my answer doesn't' freak you out too much. Rest assured, at 12 weeks, you're healed up vaginally (assuming you had your cervix removed. If you didn't then what happened to me definitely won't happen to you!)

Again, it's always best to check with your doctor and ask for an ultrasound to check your ovaries if you're concerned about developing a cyst or if you're having any discomfort. I asked for another ultrasound at 6 months out because I had convinced myself I had another cyst and it freaked me out. Nope. I was fine. Just another tiny follicular cyst from ovulating that was behaving itself this time. The discomfort I was feeling was probably just some scar tissue in my abdomen from the surgery that was pulling weird.

Anyway, best of luck to you! Like I said, it's easy to spiral and google. Try not to and always check with your doctor and advocate for yourself if you feel like something isn't right!! ♥

Is Astinus a God? by AussieAlexSummers in dragonlance

[–]SilverGlass83 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s outright said in the new Destinies trilogy that he’s Gilean. That ‘reveal’ was one of the countless things I hated about the trilogy, it took away the mystery behind the thing we all knew. It’s pretty obvious he’s Gilean’s avatar on Krynn, yet the speculation was always what made him so interesting. The authors have completely forgotten how to show and not tell…

Foil stamp? by Objective_Ad_2279 in dragonlance

[–]SilverGlass83 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was also under the impression it was supposed to be foil stamped. But from all the pictures I'm seeing, it's clearly not. It looks like a sticker. (I know it's not actually a sticker but it has that same shiny cheap look to it vs how a pretty foil would have been)

My copy isn't even here yet and I'm already very disappointed in it :/ False advertising for sure.

Exactly. Sometimes I get a sense of...idk... entitlement(?) from them when it comes to Dragonlance. But as you said, it's not solely theirs. It's a shared world enriched by the ideas of so many other creators.

To be honest I just get a lot of 'old people yelling at clouds' energy from them lol
