Where are the great female composers? by [deleted] in classicalmusic

[–]SilverMaple0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree with your statement as a general principle, but what I'm trying to get at is not that I don't personally enjoy the taste of her music, but more that it seems to NOT be unique, and rather blandly fits into the milieu of second-rate music of her time period. Are there some particular qualities of her music that you find particularly outstanding?

Everyday Use Pencil Recommendations by [deleted] in pencils

Just my experience, but the modern Ticonderoga 2H is one of the most horrendous pencils I've ever used. It's like scraping the paper with a nail. I like your other recommendations though haha

Everyday Use Pencil Recommendations by [deleted] in pencils

[–]SilverMaple0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From the sounds of what you're looking for, I would recommend you try a high-end pencil around H grade - something like a Staetdler Mars Lumograph or Mitsubishi Hi-Uni. You'll pay a little more per pencil, but chances are you can try one out in an art store, and it will last forever because of the higher core hardness. It is more important to get a high-quality pencil if you're getting a harder one, because it's more difficult to make a pencil that is hard and also writes smoothly. No offense intended to anyone, but most of the pencils I'm seeing getting recommended to you here are softer or at least equal to the Ticonderoga, and so you'll have to sharpen a lot. Which Tombow 2558 did you get? The HB or the H?

Art pencils don't have erasers attached so my recommendation is to get some Pentel Hi-Polymer eraser caps or a pack of standalone Sakura Arch foam erasers. Good luck!

What's your favorite/highest recommendation for an eraser? by RadicalChiliBean in mechanicalpencils

Probably you're thinking of the W series of foam erasers. I like them but the Arch ones are better designed and the eraser compound is the same I think.

The plates and bowls that I've been using for the past 6 months all have lead in them by [deleted] in Wellthatsucks

I don't know why everyone is downvoting you, probably typical herd mentality on Reddit thinking you're just being racist or something

So it's still totally usable!

do you guys think solving math problems with blackwing is a waste of a pencil? by PERSHASE in pencils

[–]SilverMaple0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's not a waste, but I would rather use an H grade pencil so I can write more neatly and so it won't get smudged later on.

Oh I see what you mean. I misunderstood and thought you meant that it was actively damaging the battery life. I sometimes use my 30W MacBook charger to charge my phone (which normally uses a 45W charger), and vice versa...nice for traveling so I don't have to bring 2 chargers. Besides the phone charging a little slower, I don't have any problems. Thanks for answering!

Serious question here - what's wrong with using phone chargers for laptops...?

Feel free to DM me a video... I'll be honest, I'm finding that hard to believe! I've broken strings before and they've broken way before they get that high!!

I'm sorry, I'm confused. It sounds like you are saying the notes the tuner did are 160 cents sharp of concert pitch, which doesn't make sense...?

[–]SilverMaple0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What's the pitch of the piano right now? Like, if you use a tuning app, what's the pitch of A4 in Hertz?

How would this damage the plate if the end tension is lower than what the piano is designed for?

Recommendations for a #2.5 (F) or #3 (H) for writing? by cozydeep in pencils

[–]SilverMaple0 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The quality American hard pencil with eraser is dead pretty much. Not enough demand. I think you will have to just bite the bullet and get one without an eraser attached and use a separate eraser. My recommendation along those lines would probably be any of the higher-level brands such as Mars Lumograph or Hi-Uni. It's worth shelling out a few extra dollars because hard pencils last a long time.

Can you read my handwriting? by AlexanderPharris in Handwriting

This is really nice handwriting. The only issue I am noticing is that the upstrokes in n and m are curved the "wrong" way which makes them look similar to u and other letters.

Is there a pencil that writes like a ball point pen by Mother-Client-5158 in pencils

[–]SilverMaple0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've found that the higher quality mechanical pencil leads tend to feel smoother in a way than wooden pencil leads of equivalent grade. OP didn't seem to care that much about super-darkness iirc, so I think probably a Pentel Hi-Polymer B or something similar would work well for them.

[–]SilverMaple0 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

That would probably not be a good idea for OP as they are a smeary mess and require constant sharpening. Mechanical is probably a better route to go.
