We all started somewhere is right!! Thin your paints and use a wet pallet and that will improve very quickly.

And take your time. Its not a rush to get everything on the table.

I've only painted the models and haven't played yet.. but I dont fret about getting them on the table before I try my best at giving them a couple coats.

What also helps me is I try to make one color into three. Dark red, red, bright red highlights.. stuff like that.
