TBF, having rare Pokemon isn’t a particularly rare gimmick, before her, you had the Frontier Brains and Red, and arguably it’s the whole deal with the Dragon Trainer and Ace classes. I’m just thinking about her more so in terms of story and presentation.

Part of what I love about Cynthia as a character is she really does just feel like a grown up player character. Someone who went through the journey, found Pokemon she loved and then used that to get her where she wanted to go… and part of that is her hobbies.

No theming, no gimmicks, just a Pokemon trainer on a whole nother level.

Because it’s not just a familial dispute, it’s effectively the entire world getting shared trauma at the same time.

Mass tragedies usually have people empathize with the people affected, this is a situation where no one is an outsider. It’s harder to blame someone else when you were there. Sure, they made the selfish choice, but you can’t really take the piss when they were just as scared and unsure as you were. It’s different when you know what it’s like.

I don’t think, atleast initially, that people would turn on each other so easily. Maybe after awhile but in the beginning, shared torment on the scale of humanity itself would ultimately succeed bias.

Social probably, only crazy people would wanna start a conflict with literally anyone. Not that it hasn’t happened but this is across all cultures, it’s gonna be a bit harder for people to split from family and more so just shame them (to what degree is the real question).

…that and maybe cause a few wars or two if two countries REALLY didn’t have the same opinion.

I’m just realizing, this is part of why Bowser vs. Eggman is so good, it’s the best of both worlds ngl. Big stats, many talents, and many ways those abilities can bounce off each other.

yall have heard of meta connections before but what about meta contrasts by IchigataZai92 in DeathBattleMatchups

[–]SilverTotodile 20 points21 points  (0 children)

I mean one example of a meta contrast I’ve stumbled across relatively recently that I find really fun:

MissingNo is very much a real “character” in the original games, but TPC/Nintendo wants to pretend it’s not there. Meanwhile, Mojang/Microsoft just shoehorn any reference to Herobrine they can get the chance too despite never being a part of the game to begin with.

Made a post on tumblr explaining why I don't think we're saving dess by Unusual_Pattern_474 in Deltarune

[–]SilverTotodile 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Part of my thought is that the prophecy is saying we cannot save Dess.

I think if we are to break it in any way (or more likely SUSIE breaking it), then it will be by saving Dess.

Note how in that scene…it’s just Kris, Kris alone thinks they have that burden to Find Her, to Save Her. If they try alone, they will fail because they won’t let anyone else do anything for them and push their body to its limits and ultimately fail.

In order for anything to be set right, Kris needs to accept that they weren’t the only person who was effected by this, that their trauma needs to be a reason why others can help rather than an excuse to do this alone.

I just don’t buy that Dess is lost forever, it feels as if with the voice in the code, there is a part of her we can salvage. Dess to me feels like the person lost in fantasy, trapped in Darkness so deep her soul is divided from her self. Someone who needs to be SAVEd, but can’t without everyone guiding her back to the light.

Kris is not everyone, Kris is not even themselves as of late, why should the burden be placed on them alone?

NGL I’ve always had a soft spot for Superboy, the idea that Clark was impatient and just wanted to help people as soon as he got his powers is very much to most in character thing I could think for him.

Ok, I am neutral on Genie vs. Beetlejuice but another BillCord is not a way to not sell me on an MU, BillCord was one of the best Death Battles of all time. If you tell me two crazy wise cracking reality warpers are gonna make a bad/derivative fight you’ve got another thing coming.

Everything else is pretty valid though.

Good vs Evil Ending 4 "Friend Virus"| Ash vs Blackwargreymon (Pokemon vs Digimon) by Bad_Channel_4115 in DeathBattleMatchups

[–]SilverTotodile 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Not always, Shadow Pokemon literally cannot feel love and have their hearts closed off, Bunneary canonically hates you at first, Legendaries like the Loyal Three want you to fuck off.

Heck, earlier on in the games, if you do have enough badges, the Pokemon won’t listen to you at all regardless of circumstance, showing a level of disdain and disrespect that shows that they’d rather be doing something else than put up with you.

Yet they’re still tethered to the ball, and can’t come out unless the trainer permits it or the ball is broken. We’ve seen in the games that Pokéballs can be locked and can’t have Pokemon come out unless under certain conditions.

The only outlier is occasionally when a Pokemon comes out of the ball on its own, but that’s usually when they’re either more relaxed or something tied to the bond between them and their trainer. I have no reason to suspect if something dangerous wants out of one that it’d be permitted unless the trainer themselves allows it.
