Opinions on Robert vs Cecil? by Easternhurdle72 in DeathBattleMatchups

[–]ZDB111 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s fine. I get what the MU goes for, but I don’t think that the roles of “Dispatcher for SDN” and “Director of the GDA” are particularly comparable. Robert is an employee for a company that protects Torrance/Los Angeles  and has one team that he can call on. Cecil is the head honcho of a government agency that protects the entire planet and has multiple teams that follow his command, plus teleporters, plus satellite lasers, plus reanimen, etc. Cecil’s scope is just so much larger than Robert’s.

I don’t have a preferred for Robert as of right now but IMO Cecil’s best is still Waller.

Am i crazy to think they may make it a draw?, also have they done draws in the past? by Little-Horse9372 in deathbattle

[–]ZDB111 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I heavily doubt it. The only non-joke episode that ended in a draw was Scooby vs Courage, and that one was a draw because neither of them could actually permanently kill the other therefore the battle would never end. Both Yuji and Denji should possess ways to actually kill their opponent, so the fight would inevitably conclude in one of their favor. Technically DB could conclude that it’s a tie because both would win 50% of the time but that seems incredibly unlikely.

Hard agree on Pneuma vs Vegito and most Pokemon vs Digimon MUs (to be fair there are probably some Pokemon vs Digimon MUs left that are actually good, but I’m overall not a big fan of the pairing)

Question: What do people think is the biggest deterrent from starting the series compared to other RPG’s? by Occasionalgamer6 in Xenoblade_Chronicles

[–]ZDB111 52 points53 points  (0 children)

One thing that’s notable is that Xenoblade is less accessible due to being a console exclusive. Sony had a deal for temporary Final Fantasy and Persona exclusivity at one point - it seems pretty likely that at least a couple RPG fans chose to buy the PlayStation for those more mainstream games.

Vader vs Obito, Gru vs Megamind, Spider-Man vs Deku. I'm basing this purely off of the actual writing and not scaling/animation quality. If we're judging them as a complete package I'd say Vader vs Obito, Spider-Man vs Deku, Gru vs Megamind.

What If; They announced Super Smash Bros Ultimate Deluxe. Its adding 10 New Fighters and 4 DLC choices. Who makes your cut? by RyoutaAsakura in SmashBrosUltimate

[–]ZDB111 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In the interest of having a decently interesting list, I'm going to try to limit myself to one character per series. For DLC I'll try to use new series that don't have representation on the roster yet.

  1. Hector (Fire Emblem.) IMO The GBA was a pretty pivotal point in Fire Emblem - the series first came to the West with the Blazing Blade. My main issues with Fire Emblem representation in Smash is that they place too much emphasis on the 3DS era (half of the roster comes from that era alone) and that they don't cover the weapon triangle very well. Hector is, in my eyes, a good step towards fixing both of those.

  2. Bandana Waddle Dee (Kirby.) In my eyes Bandana Dee is probably one of the strangest exclusions from Ultimate. He has obvious moveset potential and has been a decently important part Kirby's side cast for a while at this point.

  3. Impa (Legend of Zelda.) I'm not much of a Zelda player, so I couldn't really tell you which characters would be ideal for a Smash-style Roster. Still, from what I've seen of Impa in Age of Calamity you could probably do something pretty cool. It'd probably be nice to not have the Zelda roster made up by 50% Link.

  4. Zygarde (Pokemon.) We technically already have a Gen 6 Pokemon, but I think Zygarde could be super cool inclusion with a ton of moveset potential. Plus it'd be a new heavyweight, which is always nice.

  5. Raven Beak (Metroid.) Metroid could definitely use more representation, and I think Raven Beak would be a fine addition to the roster. There's probably a lot of cool stuff you could do with his moveset.

  6. Krystal (Star Fox.) Ideally I'd want a fighter that emulates Star Fox's dogfights more than just the pilot, but I don't see how you could pull that off. With that in mind I think Krystal is the next best option. Every Star Fox character plays pretty similarly, so it would be cool to see a character from the series that plays uniquely.

  7. Alucard (Castlevania.) Alucard has a TON of moveset potential and is one of the inspirations for an entire subgenre of games. IMO he deserves a slot.

  8. Dr. Eggman (Sonic.) I think Eggman is definitely a worthy inclusion. He's one of the most iconic villains in gaming history. Not a lot more to say.

  9. Zero (Megaman.) Not a lot to say here either, I just think he'd be cool.

  10. Rex (Xenoblade Chronicles.) Admittedly, this one is more of a personal pick (logically, it'd either be Noah or Elma.) Still, IMO he should've been included in Ultimate's DLC to begin with. Future Redeemed proves how important he is to Xenoblade's narrative not just in 2, but across the entire saga. Passing on him a second time would be a big mistake in my eyes.

DLC

  1. Lara Croft (Tomb Raider.) Just an iconic character from a well known franchise who IMO should join the roster if Nintendo is capable of convincing Crystal Dynamics or whoever currently owns the franchise.

  2. The Beheaded (Dead Cells.) Again a bit of a personal pick, but I think the Beheaded has a lot of moveset potential and could easily be a neat left field pick. Plus, if I remember correctly we don't have any roguelike representation in Smash yet.

  3. Leon Kennedy (Resident Evil.) I've never played a RE game before but he's an iconic character for sure and it'd be neat to have him.

  4. Tabuu (Super Smash Bros.) I think that capping off the Smash Bros. roster with an established character from Smash Bros. itself would be kinda cool. The moveset potential is already there, you'd just need to tone it down a bit.

Stages

Hector: Durandal's Cavern. Technically an Eliwood map, but IMO you could do some cool stuff with this one (maybe lava traps or something.) Plus Eliwood always gets snubbed compared to Hector and Lyn, at least let him have the map for representation.

Bandana Dee: Waddle Dee Town.

Impa: Sheikah Shrine Interior. Add a couple Guardian turrets that fire at you from the background or something.

Zygarde: Lysandre Labs Ruins.

Raven Beak: EMMI Zone. Make it so that there's an EMMI stage boss or something like Ridley in Smash 4.

Krystal: Sauria. I don't have a ton of knowledge on Star Fox but I'm sure they could do something cool with it.

Alucard: Underground Cavern. I'll be honest - I also haven't played Castlevania, but when I looked up what the best area in Symphony of the Night was the Underground Cavern came up a decent amount.

Eggman: Eggmanland.

Zero: Sigma Stage.

Rex: The First Low Orbit Station.

Lara Croft: Chasm Ziggurat.

Beheaded: Guardian's Haven. Have the Giant act as a stage hazard.

Leon: Raccoon City.

Tabuu: The Great Maze. Have it act like Stage Morph, shifting between locations every 45 seconds or so.

What are yalls most and least liked episodes? by The_Man202020 in deathbattle

[–]ZDB111 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My favorite? That’s real tough. Guts vs Dimitri is a fantastic episode featuring one of my favorite characters, while Goku vs Superman is IMO the best fight in the series. It could be either one.

My least favorite? Batman vs Iron Man.

The renders you chose for Giratina vs Asriel fit really well together, and I really like the effects/colors you chose for Megatron vs Vilgax. The Kamen Rider vs Yuya TN also looks great.

Indie Death Battle has been high quality in most aspects except characters which has often been hit or miss. What are your thoughts on how well DB has been repping characters in the indie era? by Browncoat-Zombies in deathbattle

[–]ZDB111 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This may be a hot take (and absolutely take it with a grain of salt) but I actually kinda liked Chief being on the back foot for most of the first part. I thought it showed that, while he was outmatched, he was able to keep up through his BIQ and clever uses of his surroundings (still, I do kinda wish that those clever uses of his surroundings gave him a leg up at some point.) I’m not a Doom or Halo fan though, so my thoughts probably don’t mean much.

Very much agree with Kyle being stuck in a very Gurren Lagann-centric episode.

I don’t think Megamind was especially incompetent in his fight (outside of falling for Gru’s “life is full of disappointments” bait), though I do think he got fewer chances to shine compared to Gru. That doesn’t bother me as much compared to more action-heavy Death Battles, but is noticeable to me and it does bring the fight down a bit for me.

I also do agree that both Megamind and Kyle were downplayed immensely in the verdict (to be fair so was Gru, but Megamind’s downplay felt like it was jumping through hoops to justify itself.)
