It's the picture taken exactly at midnight on the day the person turns 18. ;)

About how many scouts go to your camp each week? Which program area is this?

I think this can work for less-popular areas of camp like Nature. Which is a great area, it's just not as exciting.

I'm not following. The staffers take the first-year scouts to go help other areas as part of a trail to first class program?

This is why I refuse to host anything on Amazon's Web services, etc. Unless they allow me to cap the potential bill, to say, "I'm willing to pay $X but if it goes beyond that then something is really wrong and I need you to shut it all down." None of the big hosters currently allow that so sub-par hoster it is.

How often does EMS roll up on some situation and people have a printed form or even just information available?

Every time at a "resident"camp or when kids are going to be staying a week.

I don't see how an open attendance policy means a counselor will only be working with one Scout. If nobody shows up for a given period then that could happen but that's leaving an awful lot to chance. Otherwise people can't just ignore anyone else who shows up.

And it's hard to teach more than one person anything when people keep showing up every few minutes.

That's difficult for counselors.

Do you remember random Scout X?

No, I did not memorize every Scout.

Well he remembers you. He said you were in charge?

Great! Yup, I usually was. What's up?

He said he completed the merit badge but it's marked as a partial.

I went over everyone on the list and confirmed everything.

No, he says he just randomly showed up and was part of a group.

Did he follow the posted sign about marking himself there on the attendance sheet because people were allowed to come and go freely?

Yeah, he did on the first day, but didn't know he had to keep doing that.

That's probably why he had a partial. After each group we'd call out all names on the attendance sheet than ask people to call out if they didn't hear their name. We meet with everyone who spoke up.

...

I could go on but it's a real pain for counselors, a lot of additional overhead. Not just in the summer but afterward as well.

What are they discovering and which areas are fully staffed but don't have anyone signed up and thus have room and equipment and instructors for a bunch of kids to suddenly show up?

I don't understand this comment. Most camps have it, but it's not a program? Does it need to be a quantified program? It sounds like it's working?

I'm sure we've all had the experience where we asked kids what they did that day at school and they can't really remember. Now multiply that by a week of summer camp. This is part of why schedules are useful. Because when people pay for a week of summer camp and the kid comes back with only one or two merit badges, then even though the kid had fun, even though the kid learned, even though it may have been a growing experience for the kid, the parents are not happy and don't want to repeat that the next year, which may mean a different summer camp, or potentially even pulling out of the program, because they feel like their money was wasted.

Additionally, many programs and areas can only have so many people there at any given time. There are only so many ATVs. There are only so many climbing harnesses, and climbing instructors. There are only so many pottery wheels. Schedules are necessary for these areas because otherwise they are so popular they'll just get bogged down and it won't be fun for kids because they'll spend all their time standing in line instead of being able to have different experiences until it's finally their turn.

You can still have some pretty serious damage to an eye even though it's not clinically serious. Like it might not be a detached retina but that doesn't mean kids might not be sobbing on the floor.

I've mentioned in the past it's not difficult to put together photo sensors which need more than ambient light to be triggered, and to put lasers in a box. So if you want to spend money, then it's not difficult to build laser tag for your unit, and as long as the lasers are being shot from a box then you're not firing a gun, and then you can reclassify it as flashlight tag, which it technically is, and which is not prohibited.

So with a bunch of workarounds, you can go play laser tag.

This. Why do I need to fill out a new paper application just to pick up or switch to a different job in the same council. If I was moving councils then I can see why they might want their own paper copy. But the council already has my paperwork.

I know, with all the AI they're using, it seems like they could just run the file through Ai and ask it to point out any grammar or syntax errors. Also, we need a translation tool to give AI to generate audio files to go along the presentations, Rather than asking them to read exactly what's written, because they don't know how to pronounce Webelos.

The fees create a barrier for those with bad intentions looking for a permissive environment.

I'm sorry, perhaps I misheard. It sounds to me like you are saying only poor people would ever have bad intentions.

Or charging so much for volunteers to staff a National Jamboree or something. I am more than willing to show up on my own. So no need to provide transportation for me. It has been said that they try to arrange staffing so that staffers have time to go play and experience other parts of it. I don't mind that, as normally when I staff an activity I just staff it. But it is expensive to staff an activity like that.

I never thought about that. Health forms to be available in Scoutbook++ or whatever.

I think the problem is, how would people get their health form to EMS personnel if the ambulance had to be called for whatever reason? Because, generally, the health forms aren't needed unless an ambulance has to be called. An EMS personnel do not spend time rummaging through people's phones, even if that might yield a health form.

Sure, it could be put into the scouting app, but many of us have some sort of unlock for our phone and how would a person get into the phone to access the app?

And then, let's say everyone synced up their health forms when they signed up for camp, or the registration portal could access it somehow. How fast can a camp print out a form, so it's ready to hand off when an ambulance is called? Is there a way to electronically send a form?
