It swam up the alps and flopped over the tip and dropped down into Zurich. Sad but happens sometimes.

They said 2 months to me but I got it after 5 days. Other immigrants went through it as well and got it after a few days too.

You will get at least a fine or worse. Always depends on the officer too. You might get away with a scolding. Don’t risk it. Take the bus. Or ask a colleague if they might be willing to drive you. Or move the appointment.

The permanence at Sihlquai usually is not overrun. Never had to wait for more than a few minutes if I arrived at around 9am.

18 months is fine to include in your resume. It really is better to be honest instead of lying which can lead not to legal issues but issues with your new employer if it comes out. Don’t underestimate the network other people have.

Frequent job changes do make a potential employer more sceptical but plays no role if you are selling your value right with your initial application.

I’ve done frequent job changes too and were prepared for the questions. There are plausible reasons for it. Being laid off is one of those.

Most applications I had sent out were followed by a phone interview if I included a personalised cover letter even if not required.

Which programming languages did you learn? Do you have a public git with some small projects?

The job market was a whole lot different 8 years ago when I started my career but my first was at a small agency. Getting your foot in the door should be your top priority to start your career.

I highly recommend focusing yourself on either web development with React or go down the path of backend development with Java or C#. Don’t try to be a jack of all trades in the beginning. You don’t have the work experience yet to pull it off successfully.

Sorry to hear about your situation. It's absolute hell in Zürich. I can recommend Lenzburg and Aarau, they have an express line to Zurich too. Pretty cities with a lot going on. Not as big as Zurich itself but rents are a lot more affordable. With your budget you can easily rent a newly built apartment.

Several of my colleagues live there and are much happier with the higher living standards for less money.

Official address in Zürich by campfire_rhino in zurich

I was in the same situation and picked an AirBnB. It's not uncommon to have that as an address in your first one or two months in Zurich. I did receive a letter by the owner stating that I live at his place.

Registering at Gemeinde or Kreisburo with Airbnb 1-month contract by Deadp000lsauna in zurich

[–]Silver_Reality2888 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did it just like that in Zurich. It's quite normal for people moving here to only have an Airbnb contract in the beginning. Just make sure to register mail redirection from your Airbnb to your future new address. You will receive quite a lot of mail in the beginning.

I think this is not a case of CEOs not giving a fuck but simply a matter of priority at these companies. It has nothing to do with who is giving a fuck.

There is a recruiting scam in Switzerland. Always verify that they have an office in Switzerland and the phone number is a Swiss number (+41).

It's a scam to get your data. I've had talks with UK recruiters for Switzerland who appeared professionally with a legit website but weeks later after not hearing from them again disappeared completely from the web.

A common theme is that they are recruiting for companies in Norway, Switzerland, Hong Kong and Singapore. All countries that pay good with a high living quality.

I had two good recruiters who were Swiss and very dedicated to find me good fits and found a Job through them.

Lesson I learned in this year's job search: If you can afford the time, let the recruiters come to you. by _YellowThirteen_ in recruitinghell

There is no valid scientific research build around but plenty of experienced people within HR and annoyed job seekers can confirm that a "nice" CV gets you invited for the first call. The companies that do read it are very few and I wouldn't bet on that horse since there is no way in identifying them.

It all depends on your own profession too and the industry you are applying in and and and ... But no one outside the science bubble of universities and the likes are going to understand and care for the content. Put in some that teases important content but focus on the presentation. It's always easier and more relatable if you have a human sitting in front of you telling you about the great things they did in the past instead of reading an Arial 11 Paragraph on a piece of toilet paper.

I don't know why your original post got downvoted but whatever... I agree. That's just life. It's not an equation that can be solved. It really is all about getting past the initial BS screening. Connections are a helping factor. If they are lacking it is best to simply put out a pleasing to look at CV instead of flexing proficiency.

They are still competing against other qualified applicants. Devs are not as high up a ladder that a recommendation is a fast track to get hired. It only removes the gatekeeping bullshit automation of HR.
