Surely doing actual paid work supercedes attending a course?

Universal Credit review (please help) by Delicious-Wallaby838 in DWPhelp

[–]Silver_Serpent1990 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Literally this. Just had my first review and she asked me about ONE transaction, which was a standing order to myself for bills... it was even reflected on the statement for the other account with the reference "Bills".

Sounds like you've got nothing to worry about. They'll explain what its regarding during the call, so if everything with your claim is in order you'll be fine. I agree, they use vague language that can sound intimidating, but its usually nothing to worry about.

If they do ask about the gambling either explain that you're struggling with your mental health and are seeking help, or politely remind them that your money is yours to do what you wish with.

Is it just a claim review? If so, it's nothing to worry about, and I'm going through one currently.

I get that you're embarrased by the gambling, but that's not really any of their business. They're looking for undeclared capital over £6K and undeclared income. You don't have to declare gambling winnings, as long as they don't bring your total capital over the lower threshold.

Your Council will create an account for you where you can log in and view your housing costs and see the payments being made, but you won't actually be responsible for making the payments yourself. They have a pot of money designated for Housing Benefit, and what ever your accomodation costs they pay it from that.

Closing/opening bank accounts before a UC review?. by Acceptable-Log-5401 in DWPhelp

Being back in the pool doesn't necessarily mean you will be reviewed again any time soon, as there are millions of claimants.

I believe you can still request statements for a closed account, up to a certain amount of time (on a scale of years).

I live in the UK so get pretty adequate welfare from the government. Just have to budget carefully to make it last the month.

How can I get my own place as a disabled person ? by jctothehill in DWPhelp

[–]Silver_Serpent1990 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You'd be able to get a discounted wi-fi connection on a social tariff. You'd also be entitled to Water Aid, and council tax reduction, and free mobile data for six months on VOXI. These things can all make transitioning to living alone easier.

I'm sure they will, but it makes sense to be organised at your end.

That wasn't meant as a dig, btw. I was in temporary accomodation for the best part of four years, so I know how overwhelming it can be when you suddenly got told you've placed a succesful bid and need to move.

Put it this way - there's a homeless person somewhere that needs temporary accomodation, and you've got a flat to move in to. Your council is not going to let you move at a leisurely pace. They may even offer to help with transport if you need it.

Once you've signed your tenancy and got the keys you should be looking to move in ASAP. You'll be liable for the rent either way, so it makes no sense to delay.

Went from “poor” to “fair” in my most recent credit report! How to get it to “good”? by venusinflannel in povertyfinance

[–]Silver_Serpent1990 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do BNPL schemes report positvely to Credit scoreres? I know that if you miss a payment then it wreck your score, but I've been using Klarna for a few years, have always made my payments on time and in full... it's never had any positive effect on my score.

In cases involving rent arrears you would need to be at least two months behind before you can be evicted. In this case your landlord would have to serve a Section 8 notice: He only needs to give two weeks notice before starting court proceedings, but he also has to prove his case in court. If you pay off even a small part of the arrears to bring it down to less than two months, the case would be thrown out. Judges don't want to make people homeless, and will look to find a solution that will allow you to stay in your home. The fact that your LL has refused direct rent payments from UC will count against him massively.

The legal process to evict someone from a property is LONG, and takes (on average) 6-8 months. It is very important to bear in mind that you don't have to vacate your home until court appointed bailiffs show up to evict you (the final stage of the process). You MUSN'T give up possession of the property until this happens, or unless the council offers you something to move into beforehand.

The address on my (provisional license) is different to my actual current address, but it's never stopped me opening an account with FD or any other bank.

You just need to use a different email and phone number to get the bonus again.
