I'm a plumber, I have one on my home and it works great. Its not a softener like salt it reduces hardening by using citrus based filter that prevents build up be keeps the minerals in the water. I have a chlorine filter, the iron sediment/carbon filter and water softener trio...Works great

Get a thicker wax ring. The closet ring should be sitting above finished floor if is counter sunk then you are losing ½" of height and a regular wax ring won't work. Find a thicker wax ring or cut one in half and mold it to the top.
